Do we think it is because there’s nothing for the winner other than saying they won the tournament? I feel like a World Title shot or something would make it feel better.

I enjoyed Takeshita and Hangman from last night. Takeshita is great and I’m going to try and check out more of his work because I dig him a lot.

I liked KOR and Fenix a lot too. I wouldn’t be against KOR walking out of this the winner with him being Canadian and it’s for Owen, but Adam Cole seems to be the favorite to win it, which I don’t mind tbf.

Some other quick thoughts on the show:

Whole thing was pretty jarring quality wise. The stuff that was good was awesome. The stuff that was bad however was REALLY bad.

I get what they were going for with the angle, but holy shit is this Rosa/Deeb feud dying in front of our eyes. Every segment has been awful. Get the belt on Jade ASAP.

Fenix/KOR was the other standout match. Kyle still seems a bit sluggish but he brought the goods here

That match with Joe and Morrison was awful. That was Morrison's big chance and THAT'S what he brought? Joe isn't great anymore but damn. New low. Plus the possibility of Joe vs. Cole isn't a final that represents Owen's wrestling at all, nor should any of these people be receiving any sort of push. KOR at least feels like a decent stylistic choice but if it were me I would have gone with someone like Bryan (although I know they had him in a tag. Make the final Bryan vs. Mox in a respect match that calls to the spirit of Owen). Having a main event player win gives it instant prestige for years to come. They've all but solidified this as a midcard tournament with how they've done things.

Agree on Deeb & Rosa needing to die. But twice now we've seen people clamor for lackluster workers in Britt & Rosa to get the title only for them to become exposed quickly when having to carry the division. Are we going to make the same mistakes once more with Jade? That said, I think just keeping her talking and you can have a lot of good from it.

Itoh to her credit has improved a fair bit from where she was before in her first go round and she has all the motivation to do better this time but it's definitely not who I would have had in mind. She's in a tough spot with the fans though. Sometimes bad first impressions are hard to overcome. I'm willing to give her a shot at least seeing her have some great matches in the past year I wouldn't have expected.

I'm glad everyone liked Takeshita. He's one of the best wrestlers anywhere and hopefully they keep him with some positive momentum because they've done basically nothing with him and he's someone that needs to be on tv every week even if it's just to fill 10-15 minutes of time with quality wrestling that makes others look better too. Great match and by far the highlight of the show. Also he has a great entrance song too so just give us an entrance at least damn.

I wonder why Brian Pillman Jr wasn't in the Owen tournament. If Tony wasn't interested in bringing Davey Smith Jr for the tournament, Pillman being involved made the most sense.

Probably because Pillman has tanked every opportunity he's been given by AEW so far.

As the tournament comes to an end, the more this doesn't seem to be about paying tribute to Owen Hart and more giving the bigger names on the roster something to do other than go for a title (cough cough Cole and Britt) without coming up with much of an interesting feud or angle. I read a report (think it was VOW) that said both the mens and womens winners are gonna get pink and black belts, not trophies, and I thought that summed up AEW pretty well that they wanted two more titles (even if they're never defended) on their show.

Hangman and Takeshita was pretty good, best thing on this week's episode. Punk/Hangman doesn't feel as big as it should do though.

Yeah Pillman kinda sucks and would have been very out of place in a pretty stacked tournament field.

And saying Rosa has flopped at carrying the women's division seems deeply unfair when she's had about eight minutes of combined TV time since she won it.

Pillman breaks my heart a bit, because he was progressing fine in MLW. Since joining AEW, he's noticeably slowed, and I don't know why.

    Bloated roster is the answer.

in MLW, they had decent roster size for the tv program.

How does that final call to the spirit of Owen Hart?

That's nothing to do with it, because even with the chances he's been given he's not exactly knocked it out the park.

Plus he's wrestled a shit ton of matches in AEW, they just haven't been on Dynamite or Rampage all that often. For what it's worth though, I think he's decent. Definitely a lower midcard guy in the AEW landscape, but he can work well enough. He just needs to be more consistent on the mic and maybe develop a bit more of a well-defined personality.

Nobody represents Owen Hart as a wrestler in modern wrestling more than Bryan.

Also Pillman's ok, just overshadowed by a lot of other people. Hard to justify him not getting enough opportunities. Probably better to work matches away from tv for now.

I like Pillman Jr alot to be honest as a fan even tho i dont think he will get any sort major run. I think his MLW run was fine and like hes got potential to be a nice mid card act

It can be anybody against Bryan as long as Bryan wins, just Mox is a storyline guy that would make sense. Have Regal there on guest commentary. (I wonder if Martha would be up for doing some kind of commentary for the final matches. I don't know if she would be good but it would make them feel special.)
