Meltdown Meltdown X | One Night in Meltdown: Texas | Card and Promo Discussion

    Live

    January 24th, 2022
    Meltdown X
    One Night in Meltdown: Texas

    OPENING DOUBLE HEADER

Two of the most domineering men in the Fall Cycle, "The Heretic" Dan Maskell & "The Showman" Chris Crowe will be opening Meltdown in the Winter Cycle in what's being billed as a two-man tour with Crowe opening and Maskell closing. Though already there's discussion bubbling that considering the level of both men's competition in the Fall Cycle, or at the very least the gold one of the two men hold, it should be Crowe closing and Maskell opening; Maskell's historic success & star status carried the day.

After winning one of the four cases in the Secular Spectacular, Gerald Grayson discovered that he had been traded to Meltdown and would be challenging for the North American Championship. Certainly grateful to be reunited with Michelle von Horrowitz, his former tag partner, and determined to perhaps get some measure of revenge on her behalf, Grayson will have special motivation on top of the grand prize on the line to beat "The Showman". That said, he'll also be weary of exhausting himself before a tougher match-up later in the night, well aware that it was similar split focuses that cost the MvH & GG Connection a chance at being FWA World Tag Team Champions.

Chris Crowe will have his own motivation going into this affair with Gerald Grayson. On a surface level, he's going to be determined to prove he's a bigger star than his tour counterpart Dan Maskell by beating tough competition in a former X Champion. Beyond that, Crowe is well aware that Grayson is a member of the Chthlus's Nephews, the same band of ne'er-do-wells that costs him at the Gunfight Battle Royal, and he may be hoping to get some revenge on the faction.

Dan Maskell spent the better part of the Fall Cycle facing newcomers to the Meltdown roster, and swiftly sending them to the hospital. He did this all as the showman he is, by commentating on his own match, and while gaining a reputation for his unaffiliated talk show The Heretic's Corner. Maskell has decided to continue giving wrestlers from around the globe the opportunity to become a star by sharing the ring with him, this time around we've heard that he's inviting anyone from the Badlands to come fight him on Meltdown, determined to prove that he could turn any of them into a star if they step into the ring with him.

    FWA NORTH AMERICAN CHAMPIONSHIP

    "THE SHOWMAN" CHRIS CROWE (c)
    w/ crazy harry

    vs.

    GERALD GRAYSON

    TALE OF THE TAPE:
    - Set for one fall, 60 minute time limit
    - Chris Crowe (7-3 since BIB XV)
    - Gerald Grayson (2-3 since BIB XV)
    - Chris Crowe hasn't been pinned since Meltdown 6 under dubious circumstances by Captain Fantasy. Off the back of wins over Captain Fantasy, Reagan Cole, Michelle von Horrowitz, and Marcus McClain, he'll be confident of going into this match as the favorite in his second North American Championship defense.
    - Gerald Grayson may be heading into this title challenge with a few question marks surrounding him. Though he made his way through the Cibernetico match into a qualifier, he was unable to eliminate an opposing team member, or win the qualifier match thereafter. With his absence due to injuries, it'll have been almost five months since we've last seen Grayson pin or submit an opponent, and further yet, over a year since he could call himself a champion. Can Grayson reverse his fortunes in a new brand?

    "THE HERETIC" DAN MASKELL

    vs.

    OPEN CHALLENGE TO THE BADLANDS

    TALE OF THE TAPE:
    - Set for one fall, 20 minute time limit
    - Dan Maskell (7-4 since BIB XV)
    - Dan Maskell is promising to put on another show, this time making an open challenge to one of the Badland's residents, likely as a shot to "The Showman" Chris Crowe. But seeing as one of Badland's gems turned into a North American Champion, could we see another diamond in the rough tonight? Or will Maskell commentate himself to another brutal victory.

    GAUNTLET CHAMPIONSHIP HEATS UP

The Gauntlet Championship returns to Meltdown, alas, not in the hands of the man who went to Fallout to defend it. Joe Burr was in no condition to compete against Harry the Sane Wizard after a brutal near hour-long Mile High Massacre match, and was easy prey for the rookie wrestler from an alternate universe. Harry the Sane Wizard arrives from Fallout with assurances by Jon Russnow that he will be without any of his Nephews cohort from Fallout. He'll have to survive three Meltdowns of challenges to return home, something easier said than done.

Sawyer Xavier was able to take one step closer to his ambitions after securing a briefcase during the Secular Spectacular, one of four Meltdown roster members to do so. He was doubly fortunate to find it offered him a shot at the belt he'd been coveting throughout the Fall Cycle. Xavier will hope to win the first championship of his career and hoping that the experience he's built up will be more than enough against Harry the Sane Wizard.

Both wrestlers will have to be weary of new challengers already on their way for Meltdown 11. "The Crimson Ghost" Aka Yurei also found success at Mile High, though she'll have to wait to cash her opportunity in for the FWA World Tag Team Championships until her name is called on Fallout. For now, The Crimson Ghost can set her sights on the Gauntlet Championship once more as she wrestles a number one contendership match against newcomer Tobias Blume.

"The Experience" Tobias Blume may not find himself taking it very easy against a highly focused and violent Aka Yurei. Though if there's any test of his ability to keep his cool, it'll undoubtedly be against "The Crimson Ghost". A win here would put him on the fast track to getting his hands on FWA gold.

#1 CONTENDERSHIP for FWA GAUNTLET CHAMPIONSHIP

    “THE CRIMSON GHOST” AKA YUREI

    vs.

    "THE EXPERIENCE" TOBIAS BLUME

    TALE OF THE TAPE:
    - Set for one fall, 20 minute time limit
    - Aka Yurei (1-3)
    - Tobias Blume (0-0)
    - Although successful in the Secular Spectacular, there have been some comments on the fortune by which Yurei won her match, particularly after a string of losses to start her FWA career. She'll be looking to put the doubts to bed against a debuting opponent, while giving herself another shot at the belt she came short of winning in her debut.
    - Tobias Blume will be wrestling his first official match on Meltdown, and knows that a win here could mean a very sunny start to his career in the FWA.

    FWA GAUNTLET CHAMPIONSHIP

    HARRY THE SANE WIZARD (c)

    vs.

    SAWYER XAVIER
    (w/ george e. brilliant)

    TALE OF THE TAPE:
    - Set for one fall, 30 minute time limit
    - Harry the Sane Wizard (3-1)
    - Sawyer Xavier (3-7 since BIB XV)
    - Sawyer Xavier will be getting his first chance at the Gauntlet Championship since Meltdown 2 after being the first to grab a case in the Secular Spectacular. Will he be able to channel a year's worth of experience into a magical moment in Texas?
    - Harry the Sane Wizard may not have his fellow Nephews to rely on as he arrives in enemy territory with the tough task of defending one of the most fickle championships in the FWA. With two upsets underneath his name, he'll be hoping to add a third.

    TAG WARZ

Announced at Mile High, Tag Warz will be carrying the torch in the Winter Cycle alongside the two-man tour and the Gauntlet Championship chase. Seven total teams will be participating in Tag Warz for a chance at ultimate glory. Some of these teams have experience, some are pairing up for the first time, and some feature brand new debutantes to the FWA. The winners know what the prize is - a shot at the FWA World Championship at The Grand March, and a shot at the FWA World Tag Team Championships at Carnal Contendership. The ultimate opportunity to head into Back in Business with the finest prizes in professional wrestling.

The seven teams heading into Tag Warz are The Grayson & von Horrowitz Connection, The Hollywood Saints, Deathswitch Initiative, Chris Kennedy & Cyrus Truth, Noah Stocke & The New Breed (under freebird rules), Reagan Cole & a to-be-announced partner, and lastly Devin Golden & the returning Lizzie Rose!

As there are seven teams in the competition, every show will be headlined by a three-team elimination match where by the first elimination of the match will count as half a point, and the final elimination will count as a full point. Only one member of a team has to be pinned to be eliminated! (On paper, a 3pt grading victory will earn the winning team both eliminations, less than a 3pt grading victory will earn the second team half a point). Every other victory will be worth a single point. The teams with the two highest point totals after Meltdown 12 will face off in an all-or-nothing finals at Meltdown 13.

For many of these competitors, they will not just have to worry about Tag Warz tonight, but a direct opportunity at the FWA World Championship. Among those are Devin Golden, Saint Sulley, Chris Kennedy, Cyrus Truth, and Michelle von Horrowitz. If at any point one of these competitors is World Champion, they will be granted amnesty during their tag warz match.

First among these matches will be The Hollywood Saints facing off against the team of Devin Golden & Lizzie Rose. There's already quite the dynamic between all four men in this team. Devin Golden is one-half of the current FWA World Tag Team Champions, and by accomplishing this, he prevented The Hollywood Saints from fulfilling their ambitions. That said, he's not pairing up with Randy Ramon tonight, but the long-injured and recently returning Lizzie Rose. Rose has been an enigma since her arrival in the FWA with surprising victories and depressing defeats in equal measure. She will be familiar with both of The Hollywood Saints members from their time on Ground Zero, but she's got incredibly huge shoes to fill as far as Devin's past partners go. Both Golden & Sulley may also have their eyes on the FWA World Championship bounty.

Somehow more star-studded than the last is the reunion of the Grayson & von Horrowitz Connection to face off against the team of Chris Kennedy & Cyrus Truth. For GG & MvH, everyone will be watching closely to see if the magic from the elite tag team tournament is still there. On the other hand, Kennedy & Truth's first match together didn't pan out well (though one could blame Kennedy's pre-match beatdown at the hands of Snowmantashi... & the fact that they were facing Golden Rock in disguise), but they're still two of FWA's all-time most decorated stars. We can't forget the in-built animosity between MvH and both Kennedy & Truth stemming from an assault on the former, and a heated rivalry with the latter. And one can't ignore the bounty factor in this one. Both Kennedy & Truth, as well as MvH will all have their eyes on the FWA World title, but likewise, Gerald Grayson will be recovering from a North American Championship match earlier in the night.

And our main event of the evening will be the three way tag team elimination match. Deathswitch Initiative pairing Tommy Bedlam and James Douglas have both made an impact since their arrival, and particularly since they joined forces and put to bed a fair bit of wrestlers. For Bedlam, he'll also be finding himself back home and determined to earn a victory for his fellow Texans. One of their opponents, Reagan Cole, will be more than motivated to spoil the homecoming. Though he has a FWA World Tag Team Championship opportunity date set later on, it's always better to be safe than sorry. Originally meant to be partnering with Marcus McClain, it was Deathswitch Initiative that ensured that wouldn't be happening in the Tag Warz, now a question remains on who Cole will find to replace The Mack. And lastly, The New Breed will be taking on a new look by inviting a former tag team champion... and a tournament namesake... Noah Stocke. After a string of failures have haunted New Breed's attempts at tag team championship gold, there's hope that relying on a tag team specialist like Noah Stocke (1X FWA World Tag Team Champion & 1X CWA Tag Team Champion) will help them figure out the missing piece in their formula thus far. And for Noah Stocke, altruistic intentions aside, he could find himself draped in gold if he can show New Breed what they've been lacking.

Much like the MvH & Truth series that highlighted the Fall Cycle, Jon Russnow has been insistent that the referees focus on getting a true winner whether than overtly worry about disqualifications or count outs. Though there have been concerns from the officials that this will just push the tag team contestants to bend the rules further in a match-type that is already hard to manage.

"THE GOLDEN ONE" DEVIN GOLDEN &
    "THE RAVE" LIZZIE ROSE

    vs.

    THE HOLLYWOOD SAINTS
"the giant killer" joe burr & saint sulley
    TALE OF THE TAPE:
    - Set for one fall, 30 minute time limit
    - Devin Golden (5-6 since BIB XV), Lizzie Rose (0-3 since BIB XV)
    - Joe Burr (7-7 since BIB XV), Saint Sulley (2-5 since BIB XV), The Hollywood Saints (2-1)
    - Devin Golden & Lizzie Rose will be teaming up for the very first time
    - The Hollywood Saints will be recovering from coming up inches away from being FWA World Tag Team Champions. Will they be able to move past the loss and focus on this new opportunity?
    - Both Golden & Sulley will also have a chance to compete for the world title bounty!

    "THE ASTONISHING" CHRIS KENNEDY &
    "THE EXILE" CYRUS TRUTH

    vs.

THE GRAYSON & von HORROWITZ CONNECTION
gerald grayson & "dreamer" michelle von horrowitz

    TALE OF THE TAPE:
    - Set for one fall, 30 minute time limit
    - Chris Kennedy (6-3-1 since BIB XV), Cyrus Truth (2-8-1 since BIB XV), Together (0-1)
    - Gerald Grayson (2-3 since BIB XV), Michelle von Horrowitz (8-3-1 since BIB XV)
    - The Grayson & von Horrowitz Connection will be reuniting for the first time since Mile High 2020.
    - Truth & Kennedy will be hoping to get over a rough patch while uniting in a common distaste for one of their opponents.
    - All four competitors will have other gold to worry about tonight and may not be one hundred percent by the time this match comes around.

    DEATHSWITCH INITIATIVE
"the juggernaut" james douglas & tommy bedlam
(w/ sammy bedlam & rocco sullivan)

    vs.

"THE BRITISH APPRENTICE" REAGAN COLE &
    ???

    vs.

    "THE PROTOTYPE" DAMIAN LYNCH &
    NOAH STOCKE
    (w/ sean hughes)

    TALE OF THE TAPE:
    - Set for elimination rules, one fall per team, 60 minute time limit
    - James Douglas (2-4), Tommy Bedlam (5-5), Deathswitch Initiative (0-2)
    - Reagan Cole (4-5 since BIB XV)
    - Damian Lynch (4-7 since BIB XV)
    - This will be the first time we'll be seeing Damian Lynch & Noah Stocke teaming with someone other than their regular partners
    - Reagan Cole will be walking into this match with a new partner after Marcus McClain was deemed unable to compete for the foreseeable future
    - Deathswitch Initiative will try to rebound from a tough loss in the Mile High Massacre with at least half a point if not all the points tonight.
    - First elimination counts for .5 points, second elimination counts for 1 point

    FWA WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP BOUNTY

At Meltdown 9, Jon Russnow forewarned the competitors of the Mile High Massacre match for the FWA World Championship that whoever walked out of that match with the championship would walk into Meltdown X with a bounty on their heads. After a grueling match, it was Krash who finally finished the long road to the FWA World Championship, adding another belt to his long list of accolades (and replacing one around his waist).

That journey may be coming to a swift end at Meltdown, though if he can survive the best Meltdown has to offer, he's been assured he will have a safe ride to The Grand March where he will defend against the winners of Tag Warz.

The rules for the bounty are simple. From the moment the logo goes up at the start of the show, to the moment the logo goes up at the end of the show, the FWA World Championship will essentially be operating under 24/7 Championship rules, with any Meltdown contracted star who has once held the FWA World championship, eligible to take a shot at whoever is champ. There will be officials at the ready throughout the night (some extra officials have even been deputized to ensure no moment is missed) to make any count necessary. Only the wrestler who is champion at the end of the night will officially go down in the record books.

To ensure the FWA World Champion (whoever has it at that point) does not bail on their responsibilities, they will be expected to attend a stand-off five times throughout the night with Meltdown's five former World Champions:

    "The Astonishing" Chris Kennedy
    - 6X FWA World Champion
    - 1X FWA North American Champion
    - 1X FWA X Champion
    - 2X FWA World Tag Team Champion
    - 9-0 at Back in Business
    - Grand Slam Champion
    - Triple Crown Champion
    - World GP 2018 Winner
    - Carnal Contendership 2013 Winner
    - Golden Opportunity 2011 Winner

    "The Exile" Cyrus Truth
    - 4X FWA World Champion
    - 1X FWA North American Champion

    "The Golden One" Devin Golden
    - 3X FWA World Champion
    - 7X FWA World Tag Team Champion
    - 2X FWA X Champion

    "Dreamer" Michelle von Horrowitz
    - 1X FWA World Champion
    - 1X FWA X Champion
    - Carnal Contendership 2021 Winner

    Saint Sulley
    - 2X FWA World Champion
    - 1X FWA North American Champion
    - 4X FWA X Champion
    - Triple Crown Champion
    - Former Triple Champion

If at any point, the FWA World Champion is competing in a match tonight, they will have an amnesty from the bounty for three minutes before the match and after the match.

    Final Card:
FWA North American Championship: Chris Crowe (c) vs. Gerald Grayson
Dan Maskell vs. Badlands Open Challenge
Tag Warz: Devin Golden & Lizzie Rose vs. The Hollywood Saints
FWA Gauntlet Championship #1 Contender: Aka Yurei vs. Tobias Blume
Tag Warz: The Grayson & von Horrowitz Connection vs. Chris Kennedy & Cyrus Truth
FWA Gauntlet Championship: Harry the Sane Wizard (c) vs. Sawyer Xavier
Tag Warz: Damian Lynch & Noah Stocke vs. Deathswitch Initiative vs. Reagan Cole & ???

A few of you are double booked for this show theoretically hence the very long due date of more than 2 weeks (17 days in total). I've tried to book people together that have other matches that way you're not so much at a disadvantage. If you choose not to promo for the bounty, we can talk about alternative on-screen justifications for it, so don't hesitate to PM me.

You may submit one promo for more than one match though they will be graded differently between both matches. This cannot be a collab promo. This goes for anyone who happens to be double booked.

There will be NO EXTENSIONS/EXCEPTIONS for this show given the long deadline (unless someone wants to yell at me about a holiday I forgot about). Post should go up by the deadlines below, and there are fifteen minutes of grace period afterwards (nothing should be edited past 15 minutes after the deadline, and nothing should be posted after the deadline). It's best not to wait till the last second because WC is fickle as fuck and there's always coding issues.

If you don't meet the deadline, it will be up to your opponents to unanimously allow your promo to count (unless it's like an hour past deadline, then you're out of luck).

    Promo Deadline:
Wednesday 19th January at 11:59 PM Pacific Time.
    Thursday 20th
January at 2:59 AM Eastern Standard Time
Thursday 20th January at 7:59 AM British Standard Time
Thursday 20th January at 10:59 AM Moscow Standard Time
Thursday 20th January at 5:59 PM Australian Eastern Standard Time and Chamarro Standard Time

    Segment/Match Writing Deadline:
Sunday 23rd January at 11:59 PM Pacific Time.
Monday 24th January at 2:59 AM Eastern Standard Time
Monday 24th January at 7:59 AM British Standard Time

    Posting Date:
Monday 24th January at a time to be determined.

I like the Once Upon A Time in the West poster for this.

That is all, Let's see what magic we can do with Yurei.

So, am I to understand that any of us eligible for the World Title bounty have to submit a separate promo for that in addition to the promo we need to submit for whatever match we have?

Edited into post. You can submit one promo (as long as its not a collab promo) but it will be graded differently between both matches.

Good thing it’s just a rumour because nobody wants that.

Looking forward to this super stacked card. I'd like to write the tag match with Cyrus/CK if that's okay. I'll leave the Bounty 'confrontation' to you but I'm hesitant. Last time I let someone else write an MvH thing it was TGO with CC and I don't think he put her over enough.

I'd like to write the MvH part of the Bounty.

I've also heard rumors that you're not invited. We're not sipping tea at this shindig; we're drinking bourbon.

Re: Meltdown X | One Night in Meltdown: Texas | Card and Promo Discussion

I said that I was going to try to start reading 1-2 promos a show and offering feedback. Here is my first step to being a better contributor.

So far, I've just read one, and it was Aka. In general, I never like training-based promos because most of them feel the same. That wasn't the case here. Instead of it being all an overview of a person training for a match, we got a good insight into what's going on in Aka's mind. Trying to strike the balance between short term and long term goals was a good way to go about this. I wouldn't have been mad if there had been a little more depth, but I really enjoyed the overall feel that you went for here.

Re: Meltdown X | One Night in Meltdown: Texas | Card and Promo Discussion

Gerald Grayson: Right from the start, we get the trademark first-person perspective that sets Gerald Grayson promos apart quite well. The opening scene is quite dramatic, if only for the seizure taking place. I enjoy the description of the safehouse. Uncle in this scene felt too close to normal-acting but he was just used as a vehicle so nbd. The second scene has much less dramatics and flair. It just feels like a recap. It's good to get Grayson's thoughts and overall joy going to Meltdown, but I feel it could've been woven in throughout the promo rather than getting its own section. One criticism I have with the opening two scenes is that I don't know whether this is a tag warz promo or the NA Championship promo until, presumably, the final line of the second scene. I think, as the reader, I should catch on a tad bit quicker.

The third scene where GG meets Jay is really well done. I think it's a good character-developing move to have Jay ask GiGi to quit FWA and blame the FWA on what happened to him. It's logical. I have a really nitpicky word-choice usage here, though. "I couldn’t imagine what his family has been going through, especially Jamie, who up until a few days ago, probably thought she’d be raising her three beautiful kids alone." We're getting into the weeds here. This is a powerful statement trying to express how challenging it'll be for Jamie to raise three kids alone. I have one kid and a wife to help, and it's tough as shit. 3 kids alone? Jfc. But adding in the adjective "beautiful" just throws the whole sentiment of the sentence off for me. I wouldn't use such a positive word there.

The next scene -- the flashback to 2018 BIB -- is really good backstory for GiGi and Jay's relationship as it relates to the FWA. Having Jay pushing GiGi adds more meaning to the previous scene, so really well done here. Again, nitpicky shit from me, but in this sentence -- "I won’t hesitate to do everything I can to take down Crowe. I won’t hesitate to hurt him" -- I think italicizing and emphasizing "hurt" instead of "him" would be much more effective. GiGi is a true blood, white-knight face, so having him say he's going to "hurt" anyone is jarring and an important moment. I don't think there's much to the relationship of Grayson-Crowe for it to really matter that GiGi is going to hurt "him" over anyone else, to be honest.

The fact you included so many intricate details of WOLF-Tristan Galloway is really good stuff. You did research, which shows effort. It matters. The passive link to the NA title works, too. There was a color-coding mishap in this dialogue from Jay.

Tying all that in to why GiGi won't quit FWA is really good. I was intrigued at which way you'd go.

Final scene: good wrap-up with some solid back and forth from Thomas and GiGi. Nothing you can do since it's established for the characters, but the dark purple and dark blue blends too much together. GiGi going through the emotions that Jay doesn't want to see him is well done. There were some powerful statements in this section. Having GiGi give distance after not doing so at the start of the promo was good progression. "Before any ideas came to me, Quiet turned my head and motioned for us to move forward - and so we did." That italics hit well this time.

There probably wasn't quite enough on the NA title but I often find GiGi promos don't really focus much on the opponent. So it's not unexpected. When you get into the 30s grade-wise for me, that means you had a really good promo. This just snuck in there.

Re: Meltdown X | One Night in Meltdown: Texas | Card and Promo Discussion

Aka Yurei: Effective promo at getting the match with Tobias Blume over. Having Aka initially focused on Golden Rock and then Brian slapping her as a teaching moment to not look too far ahead is probably the crux of this. Aka does discuss the newcomer a tad bit and his "care-free" demeanor. This promo feels more lighthearted than past Aka promos. Her relationship with Brian feels like it's growing and becoming more comfortable.

Which leads me to the main criticism I have right now about Aka.

I think the dialogue and relationship between Aka and Brian/Humanity is such an integral part of these promos that I really don't know much of anything about Aka. We old-timers know about Brian/Humanity from FWA/CWA lore. That doesn't need much explanation (although it may for newer ppl). But with Aka, I don't think we really know much about her, what drives her, etc. At least, those features aren't common consistently enough. I think right now, the presence of Brian/Humanity might be acting as a low ceiling for developing Aka.

Absolutely loved the Chris Crowe promo here. I messaged BT and told him that I popped like a motherfucker on the crystal ball spot. Just another top-notch promo from BT here.

Re: Meltdown X | One Night in Meltdown: Texas | Card and Promo Discussion

James Douglas: That's a really really well done opening scene. Right away, we get some vulnerability from James Douglas with his father, who I immediately have an affinity for with the hug. Their interaction is also really good. I think the italicized sentence-long description text in the same paragraph as unitalicized speaking text throws me off. I'd go unitalicized the whole way. The orange and blue text near one another also has me thinking Florida Gators. Just something to consider.

Wow. What an awesome concept to have these two separate writing documents up: one a nonfiction about his current feelings in wrestling, the other an apparent fictional tale of love versus adventure. The second one is gripping, if only because if there are metaphors, they don't immediately stand out.

In the second part of Mt. Everest, the metaphors become a lot clearer. Honestly, I wish you didn't have the monologue explaining everything. I'd let the reader go with it themselves. I think you had a really great concept. You don't need to hand-hold as much as you did here. Right when Bedlam was in the party group, I had a sense the expedition was going to be metaphorical. And knocking down the doors is such a cool concept for a stable of newcomers.

The final little segment was a nice touch between teammate and (I anticipate) a bridge to the Tommy Bedlam promo for my later reading. I enjoyed the meta'ness of this. Rather than just doing an expedition written out, you had James Douglas in the promo writing this story himself. It's kind of two degrees of separation but it's a little twist on the usual concept you see.

I think, once you get the spacing and some of the italicized/not-italicized stuff figured out, your promos are going to look a ton better. In terms of taking big big swings, this is really really good stuff. V creative concept. You done well.

Re: Meltdown X | One Night in Meltdown: Texas | Card and Promo Discussion

Tommy Bedlam: Good scene-setting outside of the old bar Tommy used to frequent. The dialogue between Tommy and James seems a tad robotic but that's not a huge deal. I enjoy the whole poker game, mostly because I played A LOT of No Limit back in my high school and college days. I don't know what the hell Tommy is doing staying in a 75-cent pot with nothing but long odds of a runner-runner inside straight draw.

I really enjoy the whiskey aficionado side of James Douglas coming out here talking about the food pairings. My only concern is I feel I'm getting the biggest shine on Douglas when I already got a Douglas promo earlier. Feel this should be more Tommy Bedlam time. When we get the Longhorn Wrestling Championship, that's the switch back to Tommy it seems. And then James leaves, which is much-needed. As I'm reading the final hand, I'm nearly positive Randall was cheating. Five queens in 5-card draw? lol.

The card vision thing was effective. Simple but effective. It was good to get a quick summary of Tommy's thoughts on the four opponents (and one partner) rather than long, drawn-out monologues like we sometimes see traditionally. Yep, Randall was cheating. Although 3 queens woulda beat two pair anyways. I envision Tommy being more upset at someone cheating to take his money, so his lackadaisical response tossed me a little bit.

This was a good promo but in some ways didn't have the same depth of character development as the James Douglas promo. Same with creativity. I think the JD promo took a bigger swing in terms of creativity, while this one played a little closer to just putting the character in a situation/setting that makes sense to the character (beer-only small-town Texas dive bar with a poker table and steak).

It was still fun and good to see Tommy in his Texas environment and making that a central theme. I do think Tommy as a character stands out a bit more than James Douglas, if only for the Texas stuff, on full display here. Coming back to "the house always wins" with the Longhorn title belt was good.

As for formatting, I would keep the final period and quote marks on either end of the quote the same color as the text (orange in Tommy's case). I also dislike how James Douglas is orange font in his promo and blue font in yours. I know y'all each have orange but one might need to give it up permanently so there can be long-term visual "branding" for the character.

"Michelle von Horrowitz and Gerald Grayson Go to a Coffee Shop"

I'm not going to lambast you with praise for your scene setting and descriptions. You know they're good. It's the little things like describing the cash register's sound or the off-tune of the door chime that helps us really get into a scene and also get to know Michelle, someone who is always so keenly aware of her surroundings because you lay them out in such intricate detail and then point out Michelle's awareness every time. I always assume Michelle has Alice in Wonderland Syndrome any time she's out in public around people (I get Alice in Wonderland Syndrome often).

Continuing the story from GiGi's ending is such a nice touch. And to do it right after in the promo thread as well. Shake and I just to do this with Sunrise-Sunset. It's a little creative tag team touch. I enjoyed Thomas calling Jay "Jay-Gi." Then the coffee shop. Michelle seems to only show this side for Gerald and it's always such a touching moment when she does act big sister'y for him. It's human nature to wonder if there's any romantic aspect for a guy-girl friendship but it's plain to tell that's not the case with Michelle and Gerald.

The moment the contraption was described to "look like a car", I knew it was the time machine.

When the scene was Back in Business 2018, I marked out. Not for the show itself but because it linked back to GiGi's promo! Aside from the fluidity of GiGi and Michelle talking, it's so much fun to have Grayson in this environment and watching the events that he expressed in his promo. Tying the end of the promo up with a discussion about Cyrus and Kennedy while Cyrus and Kennedy are wrestling is a neat touch. Necessary. Slightly more formal than the rest of the promo.

I at least enjoyed Michelle reigning in Gerald's defeatism, plus her general apathy about the reverence toward the two in the BIB 2018 main event. The spoiler tag section is piquing interest but I don't have much more to say except it just leaves me imagining the direction.

Pretty creative promo even if it was so in simple manners. Presentation was solid. It checked the marks of getting Michelle and GiGi back together interacting, then talking about the match. I feel GiGi as a character was expressed more profoundly in this promo than even his own (defeatist + giddy nature watching the star-studded match). Michelle is always expressed. Development-wise is probably the only area that didn't hit top marks, but that's okay. Just a really strong tag team promo that fit with GiGi's previous promo.

The most amazing thing about this recent conversation is that I've learned AON is even more of a waste of space than I thought he was previously
