WC's Greatest WWE Superstars of the 2010s - The COUNTDOWN!

Welcome one and all to WC’s Greatest WWE Superstars of the 2010s - The COUNTDOWN!

Thank everyone who participated in the process of discussing and nominating superstars for this list. We got 16 lists in for this countdown. The distinguished members of WC who sent in votes for this countdown were Ed, OMB, Raye, Zero, MC 16, Ingonious, The Gipper, Postman Dave, Saint Dubb, Slick Mitch, Jimmy King, Looking Glass, CGS, Wolf Beast, Shock and myself! What a handsome and talented collection of members, right?

There were 58 total superstars who received votes for this countdown. Of that 58, there were 48 males and 10 females who received votes. 44 of those superstars are still active, full-time workers, though 6 of them no longer work for WWE. Between the 16 ballots, only 5 different superstars were ranked at #1. There were 6 fortunate superstars who made it onto everyone's ballot. Meanwhile, there were 15 superstars who only appeared on 1 ballot. Only the top 51 vote-getters (there was a tie) will make the official list of the Greatest WWE Superstars of the 2010s, though the other 7 will be announced as Honorable Mentions!

So, without further delay I'll get things kicked off with a follow-up post, announcing the 7 honorable mentions for our countdown!

Knowing that more than 1 person has picked my #25 certainly makes me happy

Totally blanked on Mark Henry, that being said I’m not sure if he would have made my final cut, but he would have been closed. The hall of pain stuff was gold.

Rusev feels like someone who should have cracked the top 20 of this thing but he’s been booked so poorly that he’s become an afterfault. Shame really.

I had to show Ryder some love. His rise was freaking insane during the entirety of 2011 and genuinely helped revolutionize the entire landscape of WWE social media for the better. That and his Intercontinental Championship win and his mania moment. Him and someone else on my list I just had to give points because I thought nobody else would.

Re: WC's Greatest WWE Superstars of the 2010s - The COUNTDOWN!

I didn't vote for anyone here.

Wade Barrett - As a wrestler he was fine, a good midcard heel and obviously has enough years in the decade to be a low ender. I think for me the overriding thought with Barrett's career is that nothing he did ends well or satisfying. The Nexus angle, the Corre, Bad News Barrett, his IC title runs, winning KOTR to have that stupid King gimmick, the League of Nations. He always tried his best but I think creative let him down a lot.

Shane McMahon - wasn't around for more than half the decade, and was a mix bag whenever he wrestled. Can't argue with the logic that he might be a bigger superstar than a lot of midcarders in WWE though given how often the McMahons are front and centre of the product.

Rusev - I actually thought there might be a bit more love for Rusev, but glad to see some realism here. A lot of bad feuds, a few years stuck in a one dimensional gimmick and very few good matches.

John Morrison - Doesn't feel like a WWE guy of this decade at all given he only really has 2 years at the start and then he's gone. He did have some really bright moments though, especially in-ring. If the wrestling world stopped evolving and WWE didn't bring in so much great talent this decade, he might of turned into a star if he stayed put.

Zack Ryder - I enjoyed him in 2011, but outside of that he was never an important or hot act in the company.

Big E - The closest I would of come to naming someone in this batch on the strength of the new day tags, of which I always thought he was the strongest performer in them. I actually think the IC title stuff isn't much of a positive for him in this countdown because he was very much a rookie and his matches weren't that good.

Mark Henry - I like Mark, but lets be real, his run was about 6 months of 2011, and then a few weeks in 2013. But we're talking about low end picks here so it's no big deal, spots for personal favourites.

Re: WC's Greatest WWE Superstars of the 2010s - The COUNTDOWN!

Shane was def an odd ball pick of mine but the fact he constantly overcame criticism after criticism and not only over-performed and over-delivered in his Mania matches, he actually managed to be one of the BEST parts of Mania. For me, being one of the highlights of Wrestlemania is the equivalent to having an amazing playoff series, that's the time you've got to shine. Those are the performances people will remember. Shane had no right putting on the performances that he did and that's why he earned my vote and respect for the last decade.

Henry is probably the closest other wrestler on that list that would've had an argument to crack my top 25, I think his chances were probably hurt due to recency bias for me.

I will say that the AJ Styles and Miz mania matches are great by Shane, and that tag last year against Taker and Roman was a blast. However, the Roman feud stunk in general, the Undertaker mania match was poor, the Owens feud I was hot and cold on, he had that AWFUL survivor series match where he was the last man standing for SD, and I still hate that Daniel Bryan's big return match featured Shane McMahon wrestling more than Bryan. They over exposed him.

I voted for E, New Day deserve credit even though I think Woods was the best actual performer in all their matches.

Nobody else listed was close to my radar.

As a tease, the only reason I was gonna nominate Ryder was for his impact on social media, but there's someone who I think trumps him in that department and was faaaaar more notable.

I didn't participate because my watching of WWE was so sporadic during the decade I felt my list would be way too skewed. I would've had Big E and Rusev on my list though.

He coulda definitely used it. Out of this last batch, I'd definitely say he's the guy I was closest to featuring, just off the sheer presence of TUE in NXT since 2017, so I was surprised he literally just made the top 50.

Paige frankly probably deserved a little more love as well for her place in WWE's history as one of the leaders of the women's revolution. Despite the brief in-ring career she had, her impact was major throughout and even after she couldn't wrestle anymore.

I honestly can't make an argument for Paige over Ronda, Becky, Sasha, Bayley, Charlotte, or AJ Lee

I wouldn't either, but that doesn't change that I thought she coulda got some more love (despite the fact I also didn't give her any points )

Jimmy King's picks took a bit of a purging there

Paige was considered, but ultimately she missed so much main roster time to injury I couldn't justify her. Better luck, and she definitely would have made more lists.

Gotta say, don't get the Gulak or Keith Lee ones at all.

Another batch where I didn't cast a vote.

And that's the problem. I really liked Paige and I'll always talk up how key a player she was in getting womens wrestling over and respected, but other than her feeling like a superstar, there's really nothing about that main roster run that you can praise. It's really all about those early years in NXT. Such a shame injuries and personal issues took over, because if you keep her on the main roster from 2014 to 2019 and she gets to have PPV matches with the likes of the horsewoman and Ronda she could of easily felt like the biggest women's star of the decade.

Drew McIntyre - If this 2020 run had come in 2019 then I think I would of been tempted even with the years away on the indies, because Drew showed his versatility in all roles and his evolution to a really good worker. But without it, Drew's just a midcarder with a short NXT title reign and a long period of time not even being the best part of 3MB. When you're listing 'split from Dolph Ziggler' as a decade highlight you know there's not enough meat on the bone here.

Drew Gulak - I think he's done well with everything WWE have given him, and I think the Cruiserweight Classic being in 2016 means there's 4 years of Gulak to enjoy which isn't ba going. But is he a superstar? Nope. Not enough boxes ticked here for me.

Keith Lee - get outta town, the guy debuted mid 2018 and had injury problems and it wasn't until a year later that it felt like they were doing anything with him. Wouldn't make a top 100 list for me.

Adam Cole and Kyle O'Reilly - I'll include the Undisputed Era guys together given they debuted at the same show. You only get 2 1/2 years with them but those are strongly booked years with them being top acts on the show, Cole feeling like a superstar of the future possibly and Kyle being arguably the best wrestler on the show across those years. However it's just not enough time to get them on my top 25, and in Cole's case I'm hot and cold with his wrestling and promos anyway.

Cody - Maybe the most deserving guy in the batch, so at least he ended the batch. Really good midcard wrestler for the company for all the years he was there, peaking as a singles guy in the 2011 run on SD with the mask, and in 2013-14 as a tag wrestler with his brother Goldust. I think during or coming out of the feud with The Shield and The Authority there probably would of been a chance to have him be a breakout singles guy again, but in order for him to be a true superstar I believe leaving the company and betting on himself was the best choice he's ever made. It really is the biggest release in wrestling of the 21st Century. 10 extra places to play with and I really could of talked myself into putting Cody on, but ultimately in WWE he never reached his potential.
