Operation Snake Eater: A Metal Gear Solid Mafia.

OKB-754 INCIDENT THE RESULT OF AMERICAN INTERFERENCE IN SOVIET AFFAIRS.
First appeared in the Soviet state media publication
    "Pravda".
    August 27th, 1964.

The OKB-754 incident, in which an American miniature nuclear shell destroyed a Soviet research facility in Tselinoyarsk, is now believed to likely be the result of American military interference. In addition to initial findings regarding the weapon used in the blast, the Presidium has now confirmed the presence of an American airship within the region at the time of the attack.

The explosion, believed to be the result of a mobile weapons launching system known colloquially in the U.S. as a ‘Davy Crockett’, is currently being treated as a nefarious act on the part of the imperialist capitalist aggressors.

Leonid Brezhnev, the Secretary of the Central Committee, called for “immediate and conclusive counter-action” during a meeting of the Presidium last night. Chairman Kruschev, however, suggested he would first take a diplomatic route with American president Lyndon B. Johnson before “military action would be considered”.

    _-*-_-*-_-*-_

CIA Briefing on OKB-754 incident: Security Clearance Level 6.
    August 28th, 1964.

This memo is issued only to those with Security Clearance Level Six and above. Circulation of this document to those without this clearance level will be treated as an act of treason.

I have discussed with Premier Kruschev the incident at OKB-754 in Tselinoyarsk. It is the belief of the Presidium (formerly the Politburo) - officially at least - that the United States is to blame, due to the presence of our airship in the region. This ship was related to a special operation code-named ‘The Virtuous Mission’, being led by Major Zero and his FOX Unit. Zero’s operative was tasked with extracting a Soviet weapons scientist, Nikolai Stepanovich Sokolov, from the region. Sokolov has been in communication with us and is seeking to defect from the Soviet Union.

This operation from the FOX Unit was a failure. Sokolov continues his work in Russia. In addition, a separate mission - involving an operative code-named The Boss - has also gone awry. The Boss was tasked with infiltrating GRU, and specifically with eliminating Colonel Yevgeny Borisovitch Volgin. She was given a Davy Crockett nuclear launch system, as well as two shells, as a gift with which to ingratiate herself to Volgin. It is believed that this weapon was used in the incident at OKB-754.

It is therefore the belief of this office that The Boss has turned rogue, and has defected to the Soviet Union. She is now considered an enemy of the state.

I explained to Kruschev this situation. Given that Volgin supports the Brezhnev faction - who now openly oppose Kruschev’s rule - he is inclined to believe that there is truth to it. He will require proof, though, if he is to convince the rest of the Politburo and his nation.

In order to delay the execution of both himself and his operative (code-name: Naked Snake), Major Zero has been tasked with cleaning up his mess. His mission will carry with it the four following objectives:

    1. To eliminate the rogue agent code-named The Boss, and her legendary Cobra Unit.
    2. To recover Sokolov once more (or to eliminate him).
    3. To negate the nuclear threat posed by the new Shagohod weapons delivery system (which was, of course, the main objective of The Virtuous Mission).
    4. To eliminate Colonel Volgin and his highest ranking commanders.

Only with complete success in these four areas will Kruschev and the Soviets believe that the incident at OKB-754 was not a result of our actions, and thus nuclear war avoided.

    Regards,

    President Lyndon B. Johnson.

    GAME RULES.

    Rules specific to this game:
    1. Dead players may still have one action to complete after they have left the game. Therefore, it is important that dead players follow the same rule as those still in the game and do not discuss the game with those that have also been eliminated (or anybody else).

    2. Many perks in this game are usable ‘items’, all of which are single-use (unless an ‘infinite supply’ is specified in your role PM). On-site procurement (OSP) is enabled in this game, meaning that items may be found during play. More on this later.

    3. There will be story posts in this game. Certain characters will kill certain other characters in these story posts, regardless of what actually happens in the game. Players of either alignment may receive codec calls from in-story town characters. Snake will feature in story posts even if he dies. Just the way it is. Although some codec calls will give intel on certain items, they are otherwise just for fun and generally shouldn’t be taken as direct hints on the game.

    4. I am going to be particularly harsh on character-hinting. Out and out revealing your character is an immediate mod-kill. Making any posts playing the character game (i.e. ‘if you can’t work out who i am by now’, ‘I can’t see a MGS character having a perk like that’, etc) that doesn’t out and out reveal a character will receive one public warning, and then a mod-kill for repeated offences. Mentioning any character names, even if it is not your own, will be considered an infraction and will receive at least a warning.

    5. All character names, other than the dead player’s name, may be [REDACTED] in reveals of dead player. I reserve the right to [REDACT] any other information in reveals that I feel gives either side an unfair advantage. Do not assume you will be able to clear others via your reveal. Items procured ‘on-site’ will not appear in reveals.

    6. Single-use double votes procured throughout the game do not count towards a team’s member-count.

    7. Majority must be met for lynch to take place on all day phases.

    _-*-_-*-_

    ITEMS and ON-SITE PROCUREMENT (OSP).

    On-Site Procurement (OSP).
Many of the characters in this game are on-site in the Soviet jungle, and therefore are eligible to ‘find’ items. Whether or not you are eligible to acquire these OSP items is clearly outlined in your role PM. These items will be found in a variety of ways, and in similar fashion to acquired perks in Sully’s ‘Survivor’ game and Sayer’s ‘Toy Story’ game.

Your role PM will either say:
OSP enabled. As you are present on the ground in the Soviet jungle, you are eligible to find On-Site Procurement (OSP) perks.
    OR
OSP disabled. As you are not present on the ground in the Soviet jungle, you are not eligible to find On-Site Procurement (OSP) perks.

    General Item Information.
    - All items in this game are single-use, unless clearly stated otherwise (i.e. as an ‘infinite supply’) via PM from the game mod.

    - Items outlined in your role PM can be used during any night phase (or, in the case of specific items, day phase) that you choose, unless clearly stated otherwise by the mod.

    - All items acquired through OSP can only be used on the next night phase proceeding the phase that the item was found. For instance, if an item is found via OSP on DAY FOUR, it can only be used on NIGHT FOUR. If an item is found via OSP on NIGHT TWO, it can only be used on NIGHT THREE. This is due to deterioration through exposure to the harsh Russian climate. You do not have to use an item that you acquire through OSP.

    - Items (with the sole exception of night-vision goggles) do not auto-equip. You must specifically inform the game mod when you wish to equip, even if you intend to self-target (or, in fact, can only self-target).

    - When items are found, you will be sent a PM including information from Para-Medic or Sigint, outlining how you found the item and what it can be used for. If you find food, you will be sent a similar PM including information from Para-Medic. When you use an item, other players are not told publicly, but other players will be informed if/when you consume food.

    - Some items are for things like making the 500th post in the thread. If the 500th post is made by someone who does not have OSP enabled, the first post after post 500 would win this perk.

    Item Index.
Below is a list of some items that may be found within this game. Note that some of these items may not be available and are there as red herrings. Other players may have items or perks not listed here that are specific to their role.

    - Active Sonar. A detection device that uses sound propagation to identify nearby objects. The Active Sonar emits a sonic wave and detects resulting echoes. Can be used in order to monitor enemy movements and gather intel. This item allows you to “investigate” another player. To use the Active Sonar, send the name of a player to a game mod during a night phase to await a result of TOWN, MAFIA, or INCONCLUSIVE.

    - Anti-Personnel Sensor. A device that measures the heartbeat and electromagnetic fields of nearby human life forms, reporting their presence through vibrations transmitted to the user. Can be used to detect an enemy without giving yourself away, thus allowing you to get close enough to disrupt their actions. This item allows you to “role-block” another player. To use the Anti-Personnel Sensor, send the name of a player to a game mod during a night phase to ensure any night action taken by that player will be blocked.

    - Binoculars. Long range, lightweight scouting device used for surveillance and reconnaissance. Can be used to observe another player from a long distance, thus determining their motives and their abilities. This item allows you to “role cop” another player. To use the Binoculars, send the name of a player to the game mod during a night phase. You will be told this player’s character, alignment, item inventory, perks, and win condition.

    - Cardboard box. State of the art stealth technology, usually consisting of thin pasteboard with a corrugated paper centre. By hiding inside one of these during a night phase, a player is protected from being targeted by night actions, which will provide an ‘INCONCLUSIVE’ result (if the action produces a result at all). To use the Cardboard box, PM the game mod and ask to equip it during a night phase. Does not auto-equip.

    - Detonation Device. Prototype detonation device that explodes upon the host’s death. Developed and first utilised by the legendary Cobra Unit. If you are lynched during any day phase, the player who casts the ‘hammer’ on you will also be eliminated from the game. This is a vengeful perk.

    - Directional Microphone. A handheld amplification system used to detect sound from long ranges. Can penetrate barriers in order to eavesdrop on conversations. When pointed at another player, it can be used to detect any night-time visitors. The Directional Microphone acts as a “watch” of another player. Send the name of a player to the game mod during a night phase, and you will be told whether another player used an item or perk on them (and, if they were, who this player was).

    - Key A. An instrument used to open locks in order to access new areas. Key A allows you entry into various Soviet warehousing and research facilities. This card is only carried by important officials whose opinions carry weight. As such, when a player possesses Key A, their next vote will count for double. Unlike other items, keys will not deteriorate over time and can be used at any point in the game after being found (with instruction to the mod). One-off double votes can also be earned by eating snakes (though, in that instance, a player can decide when and if they wish for their vote to count as double).

    - Key B. An instrument used to open locks in order to access new areas. Key B can be used to access the secret underground mountain passages in Tselinoyarsk. Obviously, carriers of this card are very important people, and are often protected by additional security. You may use this card to require one more vote on one specific day phase. Key B acts as a single use “+1 to lynch”. Unlike other items, keys will not deteriorate over time and can be used at any point in the game after being found (with instruction to the mod).

    - Key C. An instrument used to open locks in order to access new areas. Key C allows you to enter top secret facilities and is only presented to a select few commanders. As such, the carrier of Key C can summon vast resources in order to end any day phase early (and without lynch). Unlike other items, keys will not deteriorate over time and can be used at any point in the game after being found (with instruction to the mod).

    - Motion Detector. Device for detecting moving objects. Contains a sensor within that quantifies motion, alerts the user to moving objects present within the device’s field of view, and represents these movements on its display. The Motion Detector can be used to “track” another player. During a night phase, send the name of a player to the game mod. You will be told if this player used an item/perk on another player, and which player this was.

    - Night-vision goggles. Optical device that allows the user to see in dark areas by amplifying light. Soviet design but American made: does not require infrared sensors for use. Night-Vision Goggles allow the user to post during a night phase.

    - Pentazemin. An anti-anxiety drug of the Benzodiazepine class. Has a strong effect on the central nervous system, and also is effective as a muscle relaxant. Allows the user to steady their hand and ensure their aim is true. When Pentazemin is used in conjunction with a kill, it becomes a “strongman” kill.

    - Sodium Pentothal. 10mm. Rapid on-set, short-acting barbiturate general anesthetic. Serum used in interrogation in order to force the truth out of its target. This item acts as a one-off ”lie detector”’. During the night phase, you may send me one statement made by a player during the preceding day phase. This statement cannot be regarding alignment. The game mod may refuse any statement that is seen to break the game.

    - Suture Kit. Medical kit consisting of sutures used to sew together wounds. In addition, contains a variety of medical supplies, such as splints, ointment, bandages, and disinfectant. A Suture Kit protects the target from night-kills. You may self-target with this item, or target another player to send the kit to them and “protect” them for that night phase.

    - Thermal goggles. Optical device that allows the user to see heat sources. Perfect for tracking enemies, this item will allow you to see the impression of boots on the ground as well as the heat signatures of living creatures. You may use the Thermal Goggles to “track” and “watch” the same player simultaneously. During a night phase, you may send the name of a player to the game mod. You will be told if this player used an item on another player (and who this was). You will also be told whether another player used an item on them (and, if they were, who this player was).

Stock PMs for finding certain items.
    Spoiler:

    SUTURE KITS

    PARA-MEDIC
“See, I told you to keep your nose close to the ground! It looks like you’ve found yourself one of those suture kits! Must have been {insert manner of finding item}. Here’s what you can do with a suture kit:

Suture Kit.

Use it wisely! And don’t forget, you must use the suture kit during the next night phase, otherwise that pesky Russian weather will destroy it! Over.”

    CARDBOARD BOXES.

    SIGINT
“Woah! I think you’ve found one of those cardboard boxes I told you about. Must have been {insert manner of finding item}. And I think there’s something inside. That’s a {insert item name}! Here’s what you can do with the box and the item:

    - Cardboard box. State of the art stealth technology, usually consisting of thin pasteboard with a corrugated paper centre. By hiding inside one of these during a night phase, a player is protected from being targeted by night actions, which will provide an ‘INCONCLUSIVE’ result (if the action produces a result at all). To use the Cardboard box, PM the game mod and ask to equip it during a night phase. Does not auto-equip.

    - {insert item description}

Remember: you have to use these things during the next night phase, if you want to use them at all. They’re not made to survive in that climate. Over.”

    NIGHT VISION GOGGLES.

    SIGINT
“Remember that shipment of night-vision goggles I told you about? Well, I think you just found yourself a pair! I think it was {insert manner of finding them}. There’s no need to equip these: you’ve just been granted night-posting abilities! Post to your heart’s content tonight, but ONLY tonight - after that, the harsh Siberian weather conditions will have caused too much deterioration for them to be used. Over.”

Syk, took me a while to rack my brains but I think Syk-Otikon works! I didn't want to give Man Screaming Man-tis. Nobody deserves that!

Baldy, that's fair. If we fill up the fourteen, could I maybe put you as an alternate in case of inactivity mod kill? Then you could sub in if needed.

Baldy, that's fair. If we fill up the fourteen, could I maybe put you as an alternate in case of inactivity mod kill? Then you could sub in if needed.
Sure thing, just let me know either way. If I'm in the 14 i'll do my best as always.
I have a plan so cunning......

Got some feelers out for a #14. If we get one, would there be any objections to me sending roles out tonight? Gives us a good chance of getting to a conclusion before I start back at work.
