Yes, that is Foley and Sabu having a Deathmatch in a Las Vegas casino. Go to 14 minutes for some very confused punters.

Re: WCBNAINWOATT Round 1: Mick Foley vs Lex Luger

I think I was the lone person that nominated Luger for this, so I feel obligated to vote for him. If I thought for a second this would be competitive, I'd give it more thought and probably go to Foley. But I expect Foley to win big here, so I went Luger.

Luger was a guy with a great peak. You might say "yeah but look he was wrestling". But I beg anyone to watch those matches with Flair and say they were carry jobs. Luger more than pulled his weight and made those matches as great as they were. I think there's a legit five year stretch where Luger was a great worker in his own right. After that 5 year stretch he had a pretty poor run in WWE, went to WCW and was okay right till the end. Nothing ground breaking, but when I think of the shitty WCW main eventers of yesteryear, my mind doens't go to Luger like it does Hogan and Nash.

Foley was indeed great, very selfless wrestler with a lot of great matches, and a great mind. He also had the uncanny ability to make wrestlers look far better than anyone else did. When he inevitably wins this, I'll be pulling for him to go a lot further, but as probably the forum's biggest Luger fan I have to give him my vote here

Breaking my heart with this one. Peak Luger is a total favourite of mine. I totally agree with Shock in that Luger pulls his weight in those Flair matches and puts in tremendous effort. It's not like the Flair formula was a guarantee either. The Sting v Flair matches don't work as much as the Luger matches do. Luger vs Steamboat at GAB is awesome as well. The Steiners match where he teams with Sting is good as well. Even going forward to 97, he had maybe the most watchable Hogan matches of the era on the Nitro where he won the title. His low points are well noted and a black mark on his record, sadly.

Foley on the other hand is one of the peak wrestlers of the Attitude Era. Having almost all of the best matches against HHH (Rumble and No Way Out), The Rock (Rumble, Halftime Heat), Taker (King Of The Ring). I love his matches against Undertaker in 96-97 as well. The Orton feud lead to some great matches at WM and Backlash too. There is a ton to look at.

I think my heart is going with Luger on this. Foley should probably get the nod but Luger is calling me right now. Ahhh

Forget about the Flair matches. That period of 1988-1990 saw Luger producing quality with a lot of guys. Sure, some were easier tasks such as with Flair, but Luger also had some great matches with Brian Pillman, Ricky Steamboat, Tommy Rich, Barry Windham, and The Brainbusters. It's just that Luger was never the same after his motorcycle accident.

However underrated peak Luger may be, he's up against someone who legitimately pulled a five star match out of The Nasty Boys. Even the likes of Ric Flair, Ricky Steamboat, Bret Hart, and Bryan Danielson could never dream of being able to accomplish that.

    Foley easily wins.

I like some of those late 80s early 90s Luger matches as well, but Foley was on a different level to him, even though he took stupid bumps, he was a really intelligent wrestler. Foley made the careers of Triple H and Randy Orton, and elevated the likes of Edge and Rock with the matches he had with them. His career is a bit patchy which will probably halt his progress at some point, but a terrific pro wrestler.

Re: WCBNAINWOATT Round 1: Mick Foley vs Lex Luger

Luger was great and he's probably the most unfair recipient of the musclehead who can't work label. There's no doubt he tailed off by the end of the 90s though due to being old and just not caring anymore but he deserves some props.

Foley is pretty up and down. He was absolutely horrible when he started and grew into something special after his hardcore stint. In WWF he was consistently a highlight and was perhaps one of the best big match workers I can think of, but he's not exactly someone who shined on his actual in-ring abilities. Still, it's hard to ignore Ed's point of how much he made people, long after his peak. Then again I wish he had just left HHH & Orton alone instead of carrying them to getting over considering who we're talking about.

I went with Foley, but Lex deserved to be nominated.
