Re: WCBNAINWOATT Round 1: Sheamus vs Chavo Guerrero (Jr)

This is Sheamus and it isn't particularly close. Chavo is regularly a guy that I find to be the worst guy in his matches, and he has very little in-ring personality or presence.

Sheamus has been one of the most consistent TV workers of the decade. Great in tag matches, as a midcarder. Lacks a little something as a main event guy, but still has some awesome matches to his name. Chavo has never had a year nearly close to Sheamus' 2012.

Sheamus for sure on this one, I honestly can’t think of one singles Chavo match where he stood out

Chavo all day everyday over Sheamus.

Chavo has way more great matches and gives one hell of a back suplex.

Alicia Fox gives a great northern lights suplex too.

What’s the best Chavo match that didn’t involve Rey or Eddie?

Chavo was a solid, reliable hand at best. The fact he couldn't even establish himself as a top singles after Eddie passed says enough.

Even if you include those two you've only got Great American Bash 2004 and the SmackDown Six guys where he was easily the worst of them.

He's never had a match at the heights of:

    w/Cesaro vs The Hardys
    vs Big Show
    vs Daniel Bryan
    vs Roman at TLC
    the Cesaro series

Plus the tonnes of good matches Sheamus has had up against just about everyone.

What difference does that even make? The only matches that stick out with Sheamus is vs Daniel Bryan or the ladder match with Morrison. He wasnt the standout on those matches

He had great matches vs Shane Helms

I ve seen some of those matches, outside of Daniel Bryan and Cesaro... nothing is that impressive

Chavo is a real solid guy. I watched a Punk match of his at No Way Out 2008 that was a great 7 minute match. Second best match on that show. Sheamus has more high level matches though. His HIAC match with the Big Show is one of my favourites of the stipulation. He one of the best Daniel Bryan matches in his WWE run. Same with Roman.

Chavo is a fine wrestler who was a good hand, but a lot of his standout matches were always with great wrestlers. Sheamus isn't as dependent on his opponent to have a great match with.

I don't know if I think either of these guys should be anywhere nearer a greatest worker ever tournament, but I guess that's my fault for missing the nomination process!

I went with Sheamus, and tbh it's almost entirely based on his best of seven series with Cesaro and then the tag run that followed. I think they've been the best tag team working in North America over the last decade, personally. I've never seen a tag team rejuvenate two stale singles stars so well. He's also had a couple of matches down the years that spring to mind as great (I remember a quality HOSS match against the Big Show but couldn't give you a date or anything), whereas I can't think of a single Chavo match I'd call great.

Hell in a Cell 2012 for the Big Show match. Great match.

I like Chavo but I think "good hand" is the appropriate phrase. He's been solid or good for most of his career, but rarely ever GREAT. I really struggling to pick a match for the OP that I thought was legit great - it was either going to be this or the GAB match.

Sheamus ain't perfect but I was a big fan of his run at the top and he's still a solid hand now.

Love Sheamus, have always thought he was awesome and he's delivered a good amount of the time. Both tags and singles, though he's been inexplicably poorly booked throughout a large portion of his run. I have nightmares about his king days.

Chavo's like the Brad Armstrong of this generation. There's no doubt he was good and there's a small portion of the fanbase that swears by him as great, but ultimately it's obvious why he isn't as beloved as a lot of his contemporaries. ...kinda wish Hector was the other Guerrero nominee.

I find both guys to be pretty similar where they're solid and fairly consistent, but aren't someone I go out of my way to ever watch. I guess I'll go with Sheamus just because he had a few great singles matches.

Just a couple days ago I watched the Raw where Nexus were beating dudes up backstage all night. They confronted Sheamus, and Sheffield just flinched at Sheamus, and Sheamus takes off running in fear looking for Cena. And he was the WWE Champion at this time. And all the other guys they beat up earlier that night at least stood and tried to fight for themselves. AND at Money in the Bank he tapped out to Cena and only won the match because the ref was knocked down and the entire Nexus interfered to make it happen. ANNNND THEN Cena wiped out the entire Nexus after the match singlehandedly. I mean damn. They did the guy dirty as fuck.
