Re: 2012 Ongoing Wrestler Of The Year Discussion

I voted for Bryan back when Tommy did the best NA wrestler back in the summer, and since then he's gone to spread his awesomeness to the Tag Team Division. He's been more entertaining than Punk looking at the year as a whole, and he's had a lot less to work with. Punk, Sheamus would be the other top contenders from the WWE.

Honourable mention to Okada though, he's been the MVP of NJPW, never seems to have even an average match, and has made such a step up this year. Check this boy out if you haven't already.

I predict Punk will win though.

Bryan is a great character. His stuff throughout the entire year has been very entertaining: from his feud with Big Show, to the stuff with AJ, and now with Team Friendship. He's the most consistently good wrestler on the roster. There's a reason he has more MOTW wins than anyone else in the company. He's in my MOTY thus far with Sheamus and has a host of other good/great matches with Punk, Big Show, Kane, Randy Orton, Sheamus and even the Elimination Chamber with Santino. In terms of promos, his stuff is hilarious. He's always a highlight, he's barely put a foot wrong all year and he's pretty convincingly the WOTY for me.

Re: 2012 Ongoing Wrestler Of The Year Discussion

    Gotta be Punk for me.

Nobody can touch him on the mic, his promo's are still the most entertaining thing on the show from a watchability standpoint. His dynamic with Heyman is so unique and refreshing.

He's had MOTYC with Jericho, Cena, Bryan and debatabley Ziggler, as well as terrific work with usual lumps like Show and Kane in really fun three ways.

This respect angle is also extremely good as a whole. It took a real gripe that a lot of fans had about his booking and placement on cards since the title win and turned it into becoming the most hated heel in the company. That takes real skill. Not to mention he's been booked like shit through it and still made it gold.

At the moment he's in that standard Post-Summer Pre-RTWM lull where he's worked with every major active face in the company and is just waiting for his big Wrestlemania build.

Like I said, gotta be Punk.

Another two-horse-race between Punk and Bryan, why do I feel like we've been here before?

Jericho, Bryan, Cena, Ryback (to come). CM Punk has had incredible matches all year long against top opponents. He has taken every storyline given and made it into must see tv. His mic work just gets better and better and has proven he can own a promo in the ring with anyone. And he perhaps has the greatest manager of the modern era. CM Punk for me has had an incredible year.

Sheamus has to be up there, so many good matches this year.

Jericho? Seriously? I thought his run this year was pretty mediocre to be honest.

No, those are named are the ones Punk had good feuds and matches with.

Would probably be 3rd for me, or 4th behind Aries, but he's definitely up there.

Tough call, but Punk's continued to hold the WWE Championship and continued to be interesting. Still a great promo, still a great wrestler.

It's definitely a toss up between Punk and Bryan for me (shocker), but Sheamus definitely deserves some love.

CM Punk followed by Okada. From a wrestler that was pretty much a bonafide nobody and a work in progress to being a better big match wrestler than freaking Japanese Shawn Michaels. His match with Naito may be one of the top five matches of the year and probably far better than anything Punk has done this year. Punk had more great matches all around though. The Mark Henry matches, against Chris Jericho, Sheamus, Daniel Bryan, Kane, Ziggler, and more that I care to remember. Punk has been on fire this year against nearly every opponent outside of Tensai maybe?

Not sure I'd even rank Okada the 10th best guy in Japan right now.

Re: 2012 Ongoing Wrestler Of The Year Discussion

The only reason I'm not pimping Sheamus for best wrestler of the year is because his character blows. Bryan has all the same quality matches but with an exceptional character. Sheamus is easily top 3 for me and I think Punk, Sheamus, Aries and Bryan are pretty far ahead of the rest.

For WWE it's Punk & Bryan, easy choice.

For TNA, it's Aries & Bully, both men have been invaluable to the company this year.

Has to be Punk. Never seen anyone shine so brightly throughout crap. Even without headlining events, he's still been a star. Really carried the company, and has an incredible body of work this year, not only as a face but as a monster heel.

Definitely Punk, I would say Bryan if he wasn't in the tag team division. However I think they both were in the feud of the year so has to be them, Aries is a good shout though and so is Sheamus.

    Clearly Punk. Runner-ups don't matter.

My top four is like most guys here with Bryan, Aries, Punk and Sheamus. That's in no particular order and this will be one of the few awards I'll leave as late as possible to decide.

Sheamus has overtaken Punk for me after HIAC. Not sure I'd have him above Bryan, but it's a coin toss almost.
