Batista was actually a heel and still in Evoloution when he won the rumble and didnt turn face for about a month or so afterwards.
Technically by that time he was more of a tweener who was just about to become a full blown heel than a heel. The last Full blown heel to ever win the rumble match was Vince Back in 1999. Time for a heel to win it now.

I noticed this a couple months back when I was looking through the Royal Rumble anthology thing. I knew there were a lot of faces that had won the Rumble but I forgot just how many there were.
I'm still counting on Randy Orton to win the whole thing this year even though it wouldn't be the 'send the fans home happy' move that Vince is accustomed to. Maybe Orton finds another way to get the title shot then, unless they are going to try and sell us JBL/HBK for the belt at Mania between two Texans, but still.. JBL? main event at Mania? No thanks.

JBL wouldn't be my ideal pick for that either, but I would rather see it than a repetitive Cena/Orton match. The angle is intriguing and it would have a special feel to it being in Texas, something Cena/Orton certainly wouldn't have.
And the faces winning everything sums up what is wrong with WWE. They are made to look so much better than heels. Heels should win some of the Rumbles simply because there are so many ways for them to use heel tactics to win.

I think Orton has a great chance of winning the Rumble this year. With Cena holding the World title and Batista out injured (meaning WWE's dream Cena / Batista Mania match out the window) an Orton / Cena headliner for the red brand is the next best thing. Orton deserves it to, dude has been such an amazing part of Raw this past year, him coming out on top would be cherry.

He was out for a large part of the year. I wouldn't say he has been an amazing part of RAW, but he is definitely the top heel. I just can't see them having a heel walk out with the World Heavyweight Title at Wrestlemania, and it would be so boring to see Cena defeat Orton again. Orton winning the Rumble would be great (partly because the alternative is Triple H) but I can't see it.
For the record, I don't think Orton/Cena would be the 'next best thing' for the red brand at all. HBK/JBL would be easily better.

My picks to win it this year would be between Orton just incase the legacy work together but in usual WWE fashion a big star would just come in and put Rhodes and Dibiase out probably. My other pick would be HBK but that would be my pick if JBL wins against Cena in the title match.
off topic kinda: Watching the 92 rumble right now and the way Bossman went out was really awfully done almost comical really. Also Macho Man seems to have eliminated himself came in and casually was aloud to continue in the match.

It changes from year to year whether you can be eliminated if you go purposely over the top rope. I believe they did that with Rick Martel in 1991 (?). In 1997, the AAA guys eliminated themselves through the same thing Savage did, but they weren't allowed back in.

And when there is no hope,
"I'll smoke some crack, I'll shoot some dope!"
When theres no enemies,
"I sit and stare at my T.V.
and in my ignorance,
I'll be a slave and sycophant!"
I know right up there I said I can't see Orton winning, but I've changed my mind. I think Triple H will dominate the whole thing and get unfairly eliminated by Orton right at the end, so we will finally have another heel Rumble winner.
