Really lets look and comapre some of the main matches....
Undertaker vs Batista
This match happened at both PPV's and both matches were great, I think the Wrestlemania match is just a little better(mainly due to Takers injury at Backlash)
Shawn Micheals vs John Cena/ Shawn Micheals vs John Cena vs Randy Orton vs Edge
The one on one match between Cena and HBK was one of the matches of the year and one of the best matches of Cena's career, the fourway match was too overcrowded(like usual)
Umaga vs Bobby Lashley/ Umaga, Vince McMahon & Shane McMahon vs Bobby Lashley
The Wrestlemania match takes it again
Thats 3-0 for Wrestlemania match for highest three profile matches, and I havent included the MITB match

Outside of the two world title matches, there wasn't anything going out of your way to see. The MITB was the worst out of the three up to that point, plus you had the beyond horrible Kane/Khali and Melina/Ashley. Backlash's world title matches may not have been as good as the Mania matches, but both were still of a high standard. Throw in a divas match that didn't fail horribly (was actually decent for a divas match), a fun tag team match and the best match in the MVP/Benoit series and Backlash gets my vote.
