| Official SummerSlam Discussion ![]() World Wrestling Entertainment Presents: SummerSlam Location: East Rutherfod, New Jersey Date: Sunday, August 26, 2007 Theme Song: "Whine Up" by Kat DeLuna Matches Announced (Updated As They Come): WWE Championship Match: John Cena (c) vs. Randy Orton Randy Orton sees the WWE Championship differently than the other Superstars. It doesn’t just represent sports-entertainment’s most coveted prize; to Orton, a third-generation Superstar, it represents his destiny. Orton has yearned to hold the WWE Championship since he became the youngest World Heavyweight Champion in history in 2004 – at SummerSlam. But his championship reign was only a month, far too short for the man who has prided himself on destroying legends. And now Orton has the opportunity at déjà vu – and perhaps his destiny – at this year’s SummerSlam when he faces John Cena for the WWE Championship. As WWE Champion, Cena is a legend in the making. He has held the championship for 24 of the last 27 months and has been on an incredible roll in his third reign as champion. From Edge to Umaga to Shawn Michaels and Bobby Lashley, he has turned back the challenges of all comers for 11 months. However, Cena has not faced Orton one-on-one with the WWE Championship on the line. The two have faced off in tag team matches and with several other competitors involved in WWE Championship matches, but they’ve never battled mano-a-mano. At SummerSlam, Orton has the opportunity to fulfill his potential and become the champion that so many have predicted he will be. Perhaps no one – or any other multi-generational star – on the WWE roster has as much God-given ability as Orton. As the son of WWE Hall of Famer “Cowboy” Bob Orton Jr. and grandson of Bob Orton Sr., he comes from a prestigious wrestling lineage. He grew up around the business, regularly seeing Hall of Famers such as “Rowdy” Roddy Piper and Andre the Giant at his dinner table. It’s no exaggeration when people say Randy Orton was born to wrestle. That’s what makes part of his career so disheartening. Instead of showing reverence to his father, grandfather and other legends, he spits on those who paved the way for him. Instead of winning championships, Orton has been obsessed with decimating legends like Dusty Rhodes and ending careers prematurely. Just ask Shawn Michaels and Rob Van Dam. With Cena, Orton could perhaps snag the WWE Championship and end another promising career. Cena has to be careful because Orton is cold, calculating and sadistic. The WWE Champion may be facing his most dangerous opponent. But if Cena is able to turn back Orton's challenge, he will not only extend his championship reign, but may cement his own legacy – and destiny – as one of the greatest champions in WWE history. World Heavyweight Championship Match: The Great Khali (c) vs. Batista Not often in his WWE career has Batista had to step into the ring with a man who’s taller, bigger and perhaps even stronger than he is. But if he hopes to regain one of sports-entertainment’s richest prizes, SmackDown’s Animal must do precisely that when he faces The Great Khali for the World Heavyweight Championship at SummerSlam. It was just weeks ago when a fortunate stroke of luck befell Batista. Just six days before The Great American Bash, he was set to face Khali one-on-one at the pay-per-view. But then an injured Edge was forced to relinquish the World Heavyweight Title, and a 20-Man Battle Royal was held on SmackDown to determine the new champion. Batista was thought to be the odds-on favorite by many, until he ran into a force that even nature can’t seem to stop: A 7-foot-3, 420-pound Punjabi powerhouse, who cleaned house and last eliminated Kane and The Animal to win the gold. After Khali’s interference in a No. 1 Contender’s Match, the originally scheduled Bash clash was changed into a Triple Threat Match that included Batista and the Big Red Monster. Once again, Khali was victorious as The Animal was denied the gold. No matter for Batista, who continued to chase The Great Khali, going so far as to interrupt his Indian Championship Celebration by demanding another chance and spearing the massive champion. The hostile act resonated not only with Khali, but also with General Manager Theodore Long, who ordered a SummerSlam Title Match on the August 3 SmackDown. At the Biggest Party of the Summer, Batista finally gets his one-on-one chance against the biggest World Heavyweight Champion ever. It won’t be easy, though. Already a dominant powerhouse, Khali continues to add more weapons to his already frightening arsenal, as evidenced when he debuted a devastating claw hold that nearly crushed the skull of one of The Animal’s mentors, Ric Flair. The most dangerous Animal is one whose back is against the wall; it’s not a situation Batista is in often, but it’s one that usually sees him come through. Will Batista be the one who dethrones The Great Khali, or will the Punjabi powerhouse retain his title and remain the one Rubik’s cube no one on SmackDown can solve? The only way to find out is to be present for the Biggest Party of the Summer, WWE SummerSlam. ECW World Championship Match: John Morrison (c) vs. CM Punk CM Punk not only survived John Morrison’s 15 Minutes of Fame challenge on ECW, he defeated the ECW Champion. Punk’s big win earned him a chance at Morrison’s ECW Championship at SummerSlam on Aug. 26. Morrison, the self-proclaimed guru of greatness, had pondered if Punk could handle his 15 Minutes of Fame challenge. He announced that the end was near for Punk, and that no one would remember his name. Punk countered, promising no one would ever forget the name CM Punk. The Straightedge Superstar proved Morrison wrong, winning his chance at ECW gold at SummerSlam. It’s Punk’s time to shine, as he knocks on the door of Morrison’s so-called palace of wisdom. Punk will face Morrison at SummerSlam in East Rutherford, N.J. Will Morrison – the new face of Extreme – prove his fame is infinite? Or will Punk prove his focus and dedication are deserving of the ECW Championship? Rey Mysterio vs. Chavo Guerrero Chavo Guerrero destroyed Rey Mysterio’s knee, and nearly his career last October in a vicious “I Quit” Match on SmackDown. At SummerSlam, the returning masked marvel will face Guerrero one-on-one with retribution on his mind. This match was made by SmackDown Assistant General Manager Vickie Guerrero, despite her past involvement regarding Mysterio’s injury. Vickie has been an impartial and unbiased voice to complement General Manager Theodore Long, much to the dismay of her nephew-in-law Chavo, and the satisfaction of our fans. What will Rey have in store for the man who attempted to end his career? Can the master of the 619 avenge the injury that has kept him out of ring action for almost a full year? Or will Chavo Guerrero concentrate a sadistic attack on Rey’s surgically repaired knee, forever grounding the Superstar high-flyer? Triple H vs King Booker The showdown between King Booker and Triple H at SummerSlam will be about more than a royal title. It is about two potential future Hall of Famers who are at a crossroads in their careers and feel like they have something to prove. For weeks, the mere suggestion that there can be another king in WWE has whipped King Booker into a royal snit. Jerry “The King” Lawler’s 30-year-claim to the throne threw Booker in a bug-eyed rage. But no other “blasphemous” claim has enraged the former World Heavyweight Champion more than the notion that Triple H is The King of Kings. King Booker could not control his outrage when Lawler informed him of his SummerSlam match during his coronation ceremony on Raw. Booker gave Lawler a savage beating and was clearly sending Triple H a message. SummerSlam will mark the long-awaited, much anticipated return of Triple H, who has been sidelined since New Year’s Revolution with a quadriceps injury. The term “King of Kings” is not just a catchy moniker for Triple H. He is a 10-time World Champion who has won and done it all in WWE. He has had classic matches with a who’s who of all-time greats. Triple H loves to compete – and win – on the grandest stages in sports-entertainment. His thirst for gold is unquenchable and he has said that he wants to win an 11th World Championship. Triple H has had to stew on the sidelines for almost eight months, rehabbing his injury and watching others bask in the spotlight. At SummerSlam, he will feel like he has to send a message. He will feel like he must eliminate all the “pretenders” to his throne. He will feel like he has to remind others who he is – The Game, the measuring stick by which all other Superstars are measured. In Triple H’s mind, he begins his journey back to a World Championship at SummerSlam, and King Booker stands in his way. However, King Booker will not be a royal steppingstone for anybody. Although his British brogue is questionable at times, he also has a legitimate claim to the title “king.” Booker became king after winning the King of the Ring last year. However, he was sports-entertainment royalty before he ever wore a crown. King Booker is not only a former World Heavyweight Champion, but he is also a five-time former WCW Champion. He has one more than 30 championships in his illustrious career. Booker has seen and done it all and has always amazed skeptics with his ability to pull out a victory in high-pressure situations. Like The Cerebral Assassin, he knows how to win and will do anything to have his hand raised. And in critical situations, you can always count on his lovely, devious wife, Queen Sharmell, to help him out. Make no mistake about it: King Booker may want this victory as badly as Triple H. Like Triple H, he has had a Hall of Fame career. But he is offended that experts so willingly refer to his opponent as The King of Kings yet see his monarchy as a punchline. Defeating Triple H at SummerSlam would put an exclamation point on King Booker’s career. Triple H and King Booker are not strangers to one another. They met more than five years ago when Triple H successfully defended the World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania XIX. But that was a long time ago, and so much has changed for both Superstars. Will King Booker cement his claim to throne and spoil Triple H’s return? Or will he be forced to bow down to The King of Kings? Intercontinental Championship Match: Umaga (c) vs. Ken Kennedy vs. Carlito One-on-one, very few Superstars have been able to handle Intercontinental Champion Umaga. Only three individuals – WWE Champion John Cena, Bobby Lashley and Santino Marella (who had a VERY big assist from Lashley) – have been able to down the Samoan Bulldozer. The primordial Intercontinental Champion seems impervious to pain at times. He knows no loyalties and knows only one speed when he brutalizes his foes in the ring – full speed. And lately, in recent matches against Marella, Jeff Hardy, Carlito, Cena, and Randy Orton, he has looked unstoppable. Still, Umaga may face his toughest challenge yet when he defends his championship against two of WWE’s hungriest Superstars at SummerSlam, Carlito and Mr. Kennedy. This Triple Threat Match was made on Raw after a Kennedy-Carlito contest to determine who would face Umaga at SummerSlam ended without a decisive winner. Raw GM William Regal decided that having a Triple Threat Match for the Intercontinental Championship would best serve the combatants and our fans. The loudmouthed Mr. Kennedy has been busy riding the momentum he has enjoyed since he put the mighty Bobby Lashley out with a shoulder injury (and he hasn’t let anybody forget it, either). Kennedy is determined to prove to the Raw locker room and all of WWE that he is among the elite and deserves an opportunity at a world championship. That’s why he injured Lashley. In Kennedy, Umaga is facing a man who not only wants his Intercontinental Championship, but is also determined to prove a point. That makes the former Mr. Money in the Bank potentially very dangerous. Meanwhile, Carlito also has been hell-bent on showing that he deserves to be considered among WWE’s upper-echelon. He turned heads when he defeated WWE Champion John Cena in a non-title match on Raw. The Caribbean Bad Apple wants to hold championship gold again, and an opportunity at the WWE Championship someday. He believes he can start the road to a world championship by defeating Umaga for the Intercontinental Championship, a title he once held. Will Umaga cement his dominant hold on the Intercontinental Championship at SummerSlam? Or will Kennedy and Carlito be too much even for the Samoan Bulldozer? Find out by watching SummerSlam live on pay-per-view on Aug. 26 at 8/7 CT. Tri-Branded Diva Battle Royal For Number One Contendership To Women's Championship The Biggest Party of the Summer wouldn’t be complete without the beautiful WWE Divas. Recognizing the appeal of a scintillating showdown, Raw General Manager William Regal conferred with his colleagues from SmackDown and ECW and arranged for a Battle Royal among all WWE Divas at SummerSlam. The winner of the match will get an opportunity to challenge Candice Michelle for the Women’s Championship. The Battle Royal could represent a big break for newcomers like Beth Phoenix, who is anxious to make an impact in WWE and Divas like Jillian, Michelle McCool, or the ladies of Extreme Exposé, who have not had an opportunity at the Women’s Championship. The match also signifies the prospect of redemption for former Women’s Champions such as Melina, Victoria and Mickie James. Who will win the Battle Royal and have a chance at taking on Women’s Champion Candice Michelle? There’s only one way to find out – check out SummerSlam this Sunday live on pay-per-view at 8/7 CT. | Re: Official SummerSlam Discussion I havent heard anything about Booker being sent home. I'm mainly looking forward to Triple H's return and also the WWE Title match. I'm hoping for Orton to get the win and finally end Cena's reign as champion. Maybe then he can go away from the title for awhile. I like Cena but he has had the belt for too damn long. The Rey and Chavo match doesnt really interest me at all. The only good thing is having Rey back wrestling, I suppose this is only so he can get some revenge on Chavo for putting him out of action. Batista and Khali doesnt interest me much either, I dont want either of the two WHC but I would prefer Batista to take the belt because he is better than Khali even though Batista is bad in the ring. |

| Re: Official SummerSlam Discussion I can't wait to see whats going to happen with that Khali/Batista match considering at house shows they don't do extended matches cause they suck that much. I hope they have someone make a huge return and kill Batista and Khali and then a real superstar can claim the title. | ||||||||||||||

| Re: Official SummerSlam Discussion Obviously Booker wasn't sent home as he is appearing on Monday Night Raw to face Jerry Lawler tonight. They won't send him home for having TNA stars in his promotion as that's what it is...his promotion. Anyways here's what I see the SummerSlam card looking like: World Wrestling Entertainment Championship John Cena (c) vs. Randy Orton World Heavyweight Championship Match The Great Khali (c) vs. Batista Extreme Rules Match for the ECW Championship John Morrison (c) vs. CM Punk Loser No Longer Can Call Himself King Triple H vs. King Booker Intercontinental Championship Umaga (c) vs. Carlito vs. Ken Kennedy Cruiserweight Championship Hornswoggle (c) vs. Jamie Noble Rey Mysterio vs. Chavo Guerrero | ||||||||||||||

| Re: Official SummerSlam Discussion Id love Kennedy to have an IC Title reign. He didnt have that much of an US Title reign and I think he would be able to have a great title reign if given the time. Also the looser no longer can use the King thing seems pretty likely to happen and then there will be no more King Booker, Which will be kinda sad because he has been pretty entertaining with the gimmick. |

| Re: Official SummerSlam Discussion I think the Booker and HHH match is a match for Booker to get rid of the stupid ass gimmick. Hopefully he will go back to a normal gimmick. | ||||||||||||||
