Re: Wrestlemania 24 - Raw vs Smackdown

Interesting match this one. I was wondering how they’d get these two on the Mania card, but I didn’t think it’d be in a match like this. I can’t see the entertainment or anticipation for the build up to this match. Most of the other brand vs. brand feuds have been highly anticipated, and the interactions on both shows has been entertaining.. but I don’t see this one being like that. One guy doesn’t speak, and the other one can’t cut a promo to save his life… what a build up this is going to be!!?

I’d have preferred it to be a match between Jericho and MVP. Both are great talkers, who would build up a battle of the brands feud well. If it wasn’t for the WWE Title being a triple threat match I’d have thrown Elijah Burke or Shelton Benjamin into the mix also. But since ECW and Smackdown are effectively the same brand, and there’s already a triple threat match headlining the card, then I don’t see any reason for hit to be a 3 way.

For the record, I think Batista will probably come out of Mania with the victory.

Re: Wrestlemania 24 - Raw vs Smackdown

very interesting that they put two powerhouses together in a match instead of an obvious squash. Why wasnt ecw included in this brand v. brand match?

its obvious wwe didnt wanna leave these tow off the wrestlemania card, but also had no real use for them, so they made this match.

anyway i think it could go either way, big dave can take umaga, but umaga can also beat dave.. so either or.. i guess it doesnt matter

ECW isn't included because that brand is, for the most part, an afterthought. For example, in this year's Royal Rumble, ECW Champion Chavo Guerrero was included in the match. Why? I don't know, I guess if he won he would have challenged himself in the Wrestlemania main event.

Also, ECW doesn't have a big star to put in there to represent them. CM Punk (probably the obvious choice) is in the MITB ladder match as well as Shelton Benjamin. Miz and Morrison are the WWE Tag Champs so they won't pull the team apart to get squashed by either Batista or Umaga. Big Daddy V could be a good choice as well but he's on Smackdown so much that people may not look at him and instantly think "ECW", I know I don't. Elijah Burke, Tommy Dreamer, Colin Delaney, Kofi Kingston and Stevie Richards would all be obvious squashes.

Eventhough we all know Raw is the superior brand (we would never see a 3 hour Wrestlemania Rewind Night on Smackdown), I'm gonna go with Bat...nope, I'm gonna go with "U-manga" since I think he needs the win more to make this a credible feud after Wrestlemania, which is where I see this going.

The point is Chavo was the ECW CHAMPION and the Royal Rumble winner has the choice of facing one of the THREE brand champions at Wrestlemania. Chavo shouldn't have been in the Rumble because he was one of those champions. It's the same as having Randy Orton or Edge in the rumble.

Remember when the Undertaker won the Rumble in 2007, he had the choice of facing John Cena, WWE Champion, Batista, World Heavyweight Champion or Bobby Lashley, ECW Champion.

Re: Wrestlemania 24 - Raw vs Smackdown

Chavo had already qualified for the Royal Rumble before he became the new ECW Champion so he simply stayed in the Rumble match after winning it. WWE pretty much did that as they had no place for an ECW Championship match to be on the card and it allowed Chavo and CM Punk to both be in the match.

Anyways, keeping to the actual match in this thread, I imagine Batista will get the victory at Wrestlemania. Umaga will move to SmackDown!, and get the pay-off in the feud (I hope so anyways) and then he'll go after World Championship gold on SD! for a while.

So, basically this should all (hopefully) turn out pretty well for Umaga, especially for a feud out of nothing.

Re: Wrestlemania 24 - Raw vs Smackdown

Should be a decent match, though Batista is winning for sure.

As for who needs it more, Umaga is the hands-down obvious choice. A win for the Samoan Bulldozer would restore credibility that left after being bitched out to Triple H, and would probably result in a draft or trade, giving Dave something to do now that he is not challenging for the World title.
