Re: Armaggedon, Predictions, Live Coverage and Post PPV thoughts
I did not watch Armageddon live, but I did download it, and hereās my thoughts as I was watching the show yesterday.
US Title Match
MVP vs. Rey Mysterio
Solid opener to the PPV. You always know your going to get good in ring action when either MVP or Mysterio are in the ring. Nice psychology at the end of the match when MVP decided he didnāt want to beat the 10 count. It fitted his character, it wouldnāt have made sense for him to have gone back into the ring when Rey was getting the upper hand for most of the match. I personally have no problem with the count out finish. It keeps the feud alive.
Jeff Hardy Backstage: They sure are building up this match between him and HHH. I hope it lies up to the hype. Also did Jeff forget he had a shot at the WWE Title in that awesome Ladder Match with the Undertaker on Raw a few years ago!?
CM Punk & Kane vs. Big Daddy V & Mark Henry
I havenāt been watching ECW as of late, so Iām not too sure of the back history between these 4. However it was nice to see an ECW PPV match which was not CM Punk vs. and undeserving challenger. Even if we did have to put up with Big Daddy V and Mark Henry. Typical big man match in the end. A slow, un-pretty match, but it got the job done. For a moment I thought they were going to have Punk go over BDV ā that would have made no sense.
Mr. Kennedy vs. Shawn Michaels
There was nothing fancy about this one ā just a good honest wrestling match. Kennedy did do a good job on selling his hand/arm injury throughout the match. For me the finish did come a little out of nowhere. It wasnāt as good of a match as I was anticipating, and it really didnāt do anything to elevate Kennedy into the top tier. Iām sure weāll see these two go at it again at least twice more. Hopefully they are a bit better than this one.
Royal Rumble Promo Video: Ha ha⦠I loved this video! But was that Chris Benoit flying through the window at the end? It sure did look like his tights. (During the second video they aired that night, they didnāt show that bit)
Jeff Hardy vs. Triple H
I enjoyed this match up. Again I donāt think it was good as it could have been. Awesome to see Jeff pick up a clean victory. He defiantly deserves a crack at the upper tier on Raw. I guess Triple H was trying to act surprised at the conclusion of the match. However I found it came off as looking like an āah well, I didnāt win, no big dealā. It made him look like he didnāt care that heād lost a shot at the WWE Championship. Something he claims heād do anything to get a shot at.
The Great Khali vs. Finaly
A typical Khali match really ā slow, and full of rest holds. Finlay predictably didnāt get much offence, and it was only when he used his sileighley (sp?!) did he get the Giant down for the 3 count. However you have to think that it would take more than that to get a big man like Khali down for the 1,2,3?
WWE Championship Match
Chris Jericho vs. Randy Orton
You have to admit, the WWE Title has taken a backseat to the World Heavyweight Championship since Cenaās injury (and quite rightfully so in my opinion). When Cena held the strap, you always got the feeling that the WWE title match was the most important of the night, however since Orton has been carrying the gold, I personally feel (many may disagree) that this is not the case any more.
Anyway, it was a good match between Jericho and Orton ā but still not āspecialā enough to be considered a good championship match. From the moment I saw Jericho shove JBL, I had an inkling that JBL would get involved somehow. I guess this is an easy way of getting Jericho out of the title picture, without him actually losing to Orton upon his return. I had no problem with the non-finish, as it wasnāt billed at the main event of the evening (By that I mean the last match on). Itāll be interesting now to see where they take JBL and Jericho (weather itāll be on Raw or Smackdown or even dual branded) and if Hardy will only be a transitional one match feud with Orton or not.
WWE Womens Championship Match
Mickie James vs. Beth Phoenix
Ah, how nice is it to see two women who can actually wrestle properly fighting over the title. Mickie gave Beth a good close match, and pushed her all the way. Mickie will be the one who takes the title off Beth⦠probably at the Royal Rumble, with a rematch at Wrestlemania I guess.
World Heavyweight Championship Match Batista vs. The Undertaker vs. Edge
Iām not normally a fan of triple threat championship matches but I liked this one. Edge played the cowardly very well. Only getting involved in the action when he needed to. I loved the idea of having 3 āEdgesā, but I just feel that from a production point of view they messed it up, and the finish was totally predictable. Remember when Kurt Angle took on Brock Leasner prior to Wrestlemania 19. They used a fake Angle in that match, but we didnāt find that out until after the match had finished. Thatās what I think they should have done here. Not show us that there were fake Edges all around the ring. The finish would have been more WOAH, than oh well, that was on that was predictable!!
Overall it was a solid PPV. Nothing really bad happened, but then again nothing really great happened either. For me it was a 4* out of 5*.
