| The Official Monks Summerslam Prediction and Discussion Thread This is the offical Monks 2007 Summerslam thread. Make your predictions for the matches and just discuss the upcoming PPV here. Randy Orton sees the WWE Championship differently than the other Superstars. It doesn’t just represent sports-entertainment’s most coveted prize; to Orton, a third-generation Superstar, it represents his destiny. Orton has yearned to hold the WWE Championship since he became the youngest World Heavyweight Champion in history in 2004 – at SummerSlam. But his championship reign was only a month, far too short for the man who has prided himself on destroying legends. And now Orton has the opportunity at déj* vu – and perhaps his destiny – at this year’s SummerSlam when he faces John Cena for the WWE Championship. As WWE Champion, Cena is a legend in the making. He has held the championship for 24 of the last 27 months and has been on an incredible roll in his third reign as champion. From Edge to Umaga to Shawn Michaels and Bobby Lashley, he has turned back the challenges of all comers for 11 months. However, Cena has not faced Orton one-on-one with the WWE Championship on the line. The two have faced off in tag team matches and with several other competitors involved in WWE Championship matches, but they’ve never battled mano-a-mano. At SummerSlam, Orton has the opportunity to fulfill his potential and become the champion that so many have predicted he will be. Perhaps no one – or any other multi-generational star – on the WWE roster has as much God-given ability as Orton. As the son of WWE Hall of Famer “Cowboy” Bob Orton Jr. and grandson of Bob Orton Sr., he comes from a prestigious wrestling lineage. He grew up around the business, regularly seeing Hall of Famers such as “Rowdy” Roddy Piper and Andre the Giant at his dinner table. It’s no exaggeration when people say Randy Orton was born to wrestle. That’s what makes part of his career so disheartening. Instead of showing reverence to his father, grandfather and other legends, he spits on those who paved the way for him. Instead of winning championships, Orton has been obsessed with decimating legends like Dusty Rhodes and ending careers prematurely. Just ask Shawn Michaels and Rob Van Dam. With Cena, Orton could perhaps snag the WWE Championship and end another promising career. Cena has to be careful because Orton is cold, calculating and sadistic. The WWE Champion may be facing his most dangerous opponent. But if Cena is able to turn back Orton's challenge, he will not only extend his championship reign, but may cement his own legacy – and destiny – as one of the greatest champions in WWE history. Not often in his WWE career has Batista had to step into the ring with a man who’s taller, bigger and perhaps even stronger than he is. But if he hopes to regain one of sports-entertainment’s richest prizes, SmackDown’s Animal must do precisely that when he faces The Great Khali for the World Heavyweight Championship at SummerSlam. It was just weeks ago when a fortunate stroke of luck befell Batista. Just six days before The Great American Bash, he was set to face Khali one-on-one at the pay-per-view. But then an injured Edge was forced to relinquish the World Heavyweight Title, and a 20-Man Battle Royal was held on SmackDown to determine the new champion. Batista was thought to be the odds-on favorite by many, until he ran into a force that even nature can’t seem to stop: A 7-foot-3, 420-pound Punjabi powerhouse, who cleaned house and last eliminated Kane and The Animal to win the gold. After Khali’s interference in a No. 1 Contender’s Match, the originally scheduled Bash clash was changed into a Triple Threat Match that included Batista and the Big Red Monster. Once again, Khali was victorious as The Animal was denied the gold. No matter for Batista, who continued to chase The Great Khali, going so far as to interrupt his Indian Championship Celebration by demanding another chance and spearing the massive champion. The hostile act resonated not only with Khali, but also with General Manager Theodore Long, who ordered a SummerSlam Title Match on the August 3 SmackDown. At the Biggest Party of the Summer, Batista finally gets his one-on-one chance against the biggest World Heavyweight Champion ever. It won’t be easy, though. Already a dominant powerhouse, Khali continues to add more weapons to his already frightening arsenal, as evidenced when he debuted a devastating claw hold that nearly crushed the skull of one of The Animal’s mentors, Ric Flair. The most dangerous Animal is one whose back is against the wall; it’s not a situation Batista is in often, but it’s one that usually sees him come through. Will Batista be the one who dethrones The Great Khali, or will the Punjabi powerhouse retain his title and remain the one Rubik’s cube no one on SmackDown can solve? The only way to find out is to be present for the Biggest Party of the Summer, WWE SummerSlam. Chavo Guerrero destroyed Rey Mysterio’s knee, and nearly his career last October in a vicious “I Quit” Match on SmackDown. At SummerSlam, the returning masked marvel will face Guerrero one-on-one with retribution on his mind. This match was made by SmackDown Assistant General Manager Vickie Guerrero, despite her past involvement regarding Mysterio’s injury. Vickie has been an impartial and unbiased voice to complement General Manager Theodore Long, much to the dismay of her nephew-in-law Chavo, and the satisfaction of our fans. What will Rey have in store for the man who attempted to end his career? Can the master of the 619 avenge the injury that has kept him out of ring action for almost a full year? Or will Chavo Guerrero concentrate a sadistic attack on Rey’s surgically repaired knee, forever grounding the Superstar high-flyer? | |

| Re: The Official Monks Summerslam Prediction and Discussion Thread I think the Cena/Orton match should rock.. I've been waiting to see them have a real feud for a while. I'm not crazy about Rey's return but he will help SD! Khali I still don't care about. | |||||||||||||||

| Re: The Official Monks Summerslam Prediction and Discussion Thread I personally think Summerslam will be the best WWE PPV this year.. It has the return of two great wrestlers.. Two young bucs in the Main Event with Cena and Orton.. A possible Carlito vs. Umaga match.. This PPV should be jam packed.. Hopefully it doesn't flop. | ||||||||||||||

| Re: The Official Monks Summerslam Prediction and Discussion Thread Not my prediction's but who I think should win HHH vs King Booker - A short match as I think HHH is stale and can't really get it done in the ring now that he is bulky and what not. I like him pre-2000 better. King Booker should get the win just for the element of suprise. Hornswaggle vs Jamie Noble - Jamie Noble cleanly. Jamie Noble just beat's the crap out of him until Finlay run's in but Noble still get's the win. Hornswoggle with the title is worse then when Jackie Moore won it a few year's back. It's even worse then when Chavo Classic had it. Umaga vs Carlito - Umaga get's the win but Carlito does a aftermath attack on Calito causing Umaga to bleed in which lead's to a hardcore match at Unforgiven. Also let Carlito spit the apple in his face. Chavo Guerrero vs Rey Mysterio - Rey should get the win and have both these men move on to mid-card or main event. Rey should def get main event and Chavo should get at least mid-card. I don't want to see this feud go on longer. I hate how they totally put there I quit match to shit by not having Rey removed from the SD! brand which was the stipulation of the match. MVP vs Matt Hardy - Matt Hardy should get the win in a ladder match. MVP has gotten Hardy's number in his games but now Hardy should get the US title and with that more tv time. With the US title he would be able to how more of his character. CM Punk vs John Morrison - CM Punk. Punk can sell merchandise and above all he has charisma and mic skill's over John Morrison. I do believe however Morrison should be still in the main event but he need's to focus on his mic skill's. If Morrision retains though, make him have a feud with someone knew. Khali vs Batista - Who care's? Have Khali win until Taker return's and have Taker take the gold from him. Build it up like Taker is the only one who could stop him since he is the only one who beat him on the SD! brand. Then release Khali. Randy Orton vs John Cena - Randy Orton should win. It would be something fresh on RAW. Don't get me wrong I think Cena is aiight but let's face it his title run has gotten stale since he has the title for almost a year now. Have Orton move on to feud with HHH and Cena go on to feud with someone. Overall the card looks good and like PY said. Looks like the best WWE PPV of the year. Match of the night looks to be either Orton vs. Cena or Chavo vs. Rey. Cruiserweight matches are always good. The build to this feud was good and I expect a lot out of it. Worst match of the night would be Khali vs. Batista or Hornswoggle vs. Jamie Noble. <!-- / message --><!-- sig --> | |||||||||||||||

| Re: The Official Monks Summerslam Prediction and Discussion Thread Well here’s my predictions of how I think summerslam will go… WWE Championship Match John Cena vs. Randy Orton I’ve been waiting for this feud for a very long time. I’d have preferred it to be a Wrestlemania match, but I can’t really complain since it’s at WWEs second biggest PPV. Orton has been getting the better of Cena for a few weeks now, which usually doesn’t bode well. Cena got his ass kicked by Orton and Saturday Nights Main Event, and also this past week on RAW. Booking 101 tells us that Cena should win at Summerslam, but I’m going for Orton. The reason being, is RAW ratings have been dropping, so WWE needs a fresh face to lead the brand. It’d also be interesting to see Cena chase the gold for a bit as well. Orton has stayed out of trouble for a while (well as far as we know) and I think he’s ready for an overdue second reign as the top singles champion. The Phantom Picks: Randy Orton to win via RKO. World Heavyweight Championship Match The Great Khali vs. Batista I for one hope this match is a short one! Neither guy can go on for long in the ring, so anything past 10mins will be dreadful. I’m actually a big Batista fan, so I don’t understand much of the hatin’ of him being champ on Smackdown. I think he’s one of only a few guys who can draw and be a realistic champ. Having said that, I do not see him beating Khali in this one. Khali will unleash the claw, and Batista will be out for the count. The Phantom Picks: The Great Khali to win via The Claw WWE Intercontinental Championship Match Umanga vs. Carlito vs. Mr. Kennedy Well, since the original plans involving Umanga and the Jackass crew had to be canned, and then plan B with Jeff Hardy went out the window, it’s not surprising that this match has been thrown together at the last minute. Umanga doesn’t need the IC belt. He is over without it, having said that Carlito and Mr. Kennedy do not really need the title either. For this one I’m going to go with Mr. Kennedy picking up the win here, but by pinning Carlito, thus setting up a feud between those two. I’d like to see them have a feud, and I think a lot of people would too. They are both great on the mic, which would make for some good comedy moments building up the feud between these two. The Phantom Picks: Mr. Kennedy to pin Carlito WWE United States Championship MVP vs. Matt Hardy Much has been made of MVPs ‘heart condition’ and I think this will have some bearing on the outcome. Hardy has been on a role. The boxing match was booked nicely, as Hardy got dominated, but would not ‘die’. There is something telling me this feud isn’t over, and I can’t quite see Hardy coming away with the title. So I’m going for a controversial finish where MVP fakes a ‘heart problem’, Matt loses his concentration, and MVP sneeks a win. The Phantom Picks: MVP to pin Matt Hardy ECW Championship Match John Morrison vs. CM Punk These two have been trading victories over each other in recent week, so I’m not too sure who’ll win this one. Morrison has had a recent character change, and it seems like he’s WWE’s creation to carry ECW forward, however booking 101 suggests he’ll lose this one, as he picked up a victory over Punk this past week. On the other hand, Punk has beaten Morrison on two separate occasions. He is ready for a title run, but I just don’t know where he’d take the title. So I’m going for a good old fashion draw, leading to a gimmick match at Unforgiven. The Phantom Picks: A double count-out. King vs. King King Booker vs. “The King of Kings” Triple H If this was an ordinary match between the two of them, and Triple H has not been out for a few months I’d give the victory to King Booker, as he’s owed a receipt from Haitch for Wrestlemania 19. But since this is Triple Hs return match, and they’ve been hyping it for weeks, he surely has to go over here. So with that said, I’m going with Triple H to pick up the victory here, but there will be another rematch at Unforgiven, which King Booker will pick up a win. The Phantom Picks: Triple H to win via pedigree. Revenge Match Rey Mysterio vs. Chavo Gurerrero Another return, and another victory for the returnee. Hopefully once Rey wins this one, this feud can be put to bed, because I think we’re all quite tired of it. In different circumstances it could have been good, but many people feel it’s a feud that’s been shoved down their throats. I expect an entertaining match, with Rey picking up the win, and moving onto face Khali and regaining his lost World Heavyweight Championship… I kid! Ha ha, but the way WWE Writers are you know it’s not beyond them!!! The Phantom Picks: Rey Mysterio to win via West Cost Pop WWE Womens Championship #1 Contenders Match Diva Battle Royal Well here’s our bathroom break match of the evening. All the divas from each brand are invited to participate, so we may see diva changing brands… but I highly doubt it. There are only a few credible candidates to win this one, and they are: Micky James, Victoria, Melina and Beth Phoenix. I don’t think Micky or Melina will win, as they’ve had recent title runs and opportunities to win the title, and have failed. Vicrotia is on Smackdown, and involved in a storyline with Kenny, Torrie and Jimmy Wang Yang, pluse there aren’t enough females to sustain a Womens division on SD. So with that all said I’m picking Beth. She’s recently been called up full time to the roster, so she should be given her opportunity to shine. The Phantom Picks: Beth Phoenix to win the battle royal | |||||||||||||||

| Re: The Official Monks Summerslam Prediction and Discussion Thread Phantom, your picks are dead on with what I just wrote up for my WWE blog..Only thing, they took the MVP vs Hardy match off due to MVP's condition..they replaced it with Kane vs Finlay and I think we all know who will win that match! | |||||||||||||||

| Re: The Official Monks Summerslam Prediction and Discussion Thread So Summerslam has been and gone, so here’s what I thought of the event…. Finlay vs. Kane This was a good solid bout to open up the PPV, Kane did a really good job selling the injured ribs. The result didn’t matter too much, but it was nice to see Kane pick up the win. Umaga vs. Mr Kennedy vs. Carlito Nicely booked match. Kennedy and Carlito were always going after Umanga and trying to work with each other. As I said in my predictions post, I think the IC title is above all three of these guys, but I was quite surprised Umanga walked away with the gold. Rey Mysterio vs. Chavo Guerrero A very good match between these two. I’m glad it was focused back on their actual feud and not too much about Eddie. There were some awesome move sets at the beginning of the contests. It defiantly showed what these two could do together. Unfortunately I’m a little tired of seeing these two wrestle each other. Hopefully they can go their separate ways now. I’m not too sure why Rey came out covered in Silver paint, but it defiantly was unique! Diva Battle Royal First off… Candice’s theme remix is horrible!! Change it back to the old one at least! I couldn’t help think that this match should have been placed later on in the card. How sad was it to see a talented female wrestler like Victoria being eliminated by a nobody like Krystal? Pretty predictable win for Beth Phoenix. She’ll go onto beat Candice now, she’s had her token time as champ, time for a proper wrestler to have the gold. Line of the night came during this match from Jerry Lawler “Jillian sings like a bird… a vulture… well, it’s still a bird!!” MVP/Matt Hardy Challenge Ha ha… MVP speaks the truth, no one bought a ticket to see the divas in action. As soon as he announced a beer drinking contest, I could sense a cameo appearance from Stone Cold. I tell you what, I’m gunna ask Matt Hardy to pick the lotto numbers next week… how the hell did he get Stone Cold to be his substitute when he only found out 2mins earlier he’d be in a beer drinking contest? Lol Backstage skit with William Regal and Cryme Tyme was freakin hilarious! I have never laughed so much in my life. Regal’s facial expressions where gold! If ever I need cheering up from now on, I’m going to watch that skit again!! ECW Title Match These two are guys that I really like, so I was looking forward to this match. Again, another pretty solid match. As I said in my predictions post, I couldn’t see Punk walking away with the gold. Although he did lose, it didn’t make him look weak since Nitro (he’ll always be Nitro to me!) cheated to win. I’m hoping for some sort of gimmick match at Unforgiven to finish this one off. Triple H vs. King Booker Wow… that was a special entrance. Its not often I sit in front of the TV and get goose bumps, but I did during Triple H’s entrance. The smile on his face said it all. This match was nothing special, but then again I wasn’t expecting much, since Haitch has been out for so long. The ending came pretty much out of nowhere. But it’s nice to see The Game back. World Heavyweight Championship Before this match I was hoping it wouldn’t last long, and thankfully it didn’t. It wasn’t a pretty match, but it was never going to be a mat classic. I had no problem with that, since its in-keeping with both characters; using their brute power and force to win a match. I was a little surprised with the DQ finish. I can only imagine they want another match from these two, before Taker is ready for his title rematch. WWE Championship The crowd was very much into this match, and split… which is a good thing for a main event, especially at Summerslam. It was a very entertaining match, not as good technically as the Cena/Lashley match last month. The match kept going back and forth. I couldn’t believe Cena won… AGAIN! Now unlike most, I do actually like Cena as Champ, but I can not see any positives in having him beat Orton CLEAN in their first encounter. I can only think they’ll have Randy do the whole “Obsessed with the title” thing, and have him do anything to get the title. Overall, quite a solid PPV. Nothing really special to make it worthy of a Big 4 event. I predicted most of the bouts right, with the exeption of the IC and WWE title matches. I’ll give this one 4*s out of 5*’s | |||||||||||||||

| Re: The Official Monks Summerslam Prediction and Discussion Thread This was my first PPV to watch since Mania. I thought it was a reasonable 2.5 to 3 star effort. My thoughts would be - Kane -vs- Finlay Good traditional style opener. Finlay is a hell of a worker that gets good efforts out of just about anyone he's in there with. Kane came out of this looking good with his win, and they added a nice little bit of comedy in there with Hornswoggle's interruption. Nice opener. Umaga -vs- Kennedy -vs- Carlito Not sure what to make of this. The group doesn't seem to have done anything really with Umaga for him to be getting the kind of face reaction that they want him to have, and consequently he got a nice reaction but nothing special. Crowd sounded dead during Kennedy's intro and mic spot. Carlito looked like the 3rd wheel and didn't look good enough to be in even these guys company. The guy lacks any sort of intensity, anger or emotion in his performances. I'm starting to think he was actually better in his initial two month run in WWE than he is something like 4 years later. IC Belt would suit Kennedy more than Umaga at this stage......but this was okay, nothing special, but okay. John Morrison -vs- CM Punk Nice little match, though relatively short. I predicted wrongly on this one, as with many matches on this show. I guess WWE has invested so much effort into Morrison that they don't want to give up on him yet in this role. I've not heard his promos really, but on this evidence he carries this role off relatively well, but I'll need to see more programming to make my mind up. I thought after Punk getting a role with Vince on ECW last week that this was the start of his title reign. Tough to see where he goes after this, doesn't he have like three PPV defeats to Morrison now? What with being squashed by Big Daddy V as well a couple of weeks back, where next for Punk? Chavo -vs- Rey Good match. Nice spots, nice working over of the knee, good story played out. Apart from Rey's intro music, his stupid ass body paint and his constant adjusting of his mask (ffs stop ruining match matches like your one at Mania with Eddie with masks that don't work!) this was very fine. Diva Battle Royal One of the few I predicted right. Some nice bumps from the non-workers to the outside, shame that the only one particularly over (Mickie) continues to be underused. I thought McCool looked like she'd learnt a few things in the ring and didn't look too bad in there. Booker -vs- Triple H Good stuff, not quite the blow your socks off reaction I expected to Hunter's return (great but not mind blowing), he didn't look rusty much, the match was fine. Nothing special, but a nice return though the post match was slightly over doing it! Khali- -vs- Big Dave Just couldn't watch all of this without watching it on double speed on the sky plus! Even then it was pretty slow and boring. Big Dave tried his best but there's little you can do with Khali. Hopefully Taker comes back and get's him out of the way come October ish. Finish and manner of it was entirely predictable and at the same time completely illogical (guy doing the dominating decided to cheat to retain title, even though he was in charge at the time, why??) Orton -vs- Cena Good match. WWE did a cracking job of building it up etc to seem totally like a change was happening tonight, to the point that I thought "When Orton wins this, it's going to seem like it was a main event squash, Cena has hardly had any offense at all". I was very surprised they retained the belt for Cena, but am not (unlike many others) a Cena hater at all. He's by no means a "bad" ring performer, he's a good mic guy, he makes more money for the company than anyone else, therefore he is the Champ. I do think that at some stage in the last year of two he should have come out of the main event scene for a few months, but hey ho, it is what it is, and Cena does a terrific job in his role (imo). Hell, people slammed Hunter for years when he was in this spot and now they seem to think all his forgiven and he should be in Cena's spot now!? Things just maybe should have been freshened a little in the last year. Other spots The Vince's son backstage skits were pretty damn predictable and "on paper" would have looked like bad comedy. They only just pull them off because Regal & Vince in particular are so fine in these roles. Regal's dancing with Cryme Tyme, Coach and Teddy made me laugh out loud. Vince's reaction to the lame and obvious Mae Young snog was priceless ("chicken soup?!") Stone Cold's role was obvious too. It was okay, but I think I would have just preferred something involved just V1 and MVP. They have excellent chemisty and I'm enjoying their TV moments very much without the need for Stone Cold (did he say even 1 word in this "moment") being used. | |||||||||||||||
