Summerslam Prediction Contest

Unfortunately we are unable to offer a prize for this prediction contest.

Hulk Hogan vs. Randy Orton

The scheduled match between Hulk Hogan and Randy Orton is now in question. Hulk Hogan was originally scheduled to show up at RAW Aug. 7 in Memphis, but he will be unable to make it due to a partially torn meniscus. Hogan's status for SummerSlam is unknown. (More details)

Randy Orton has earned his reputation as the “Legend Killer” by taking out some of the biggest Superstars in sports-entertainment history. At SummerSlam, if the match goes on as scheduled, Orton will try to conquer arguably the biggest legend of them all: WWE Hall of Famer Hulk Hogan.

At Saturday Night’s Main Event on July 15, Orton interrupted a special appearance by Hogan and his daughter Brooke. However, he was very respectful, and even brought Brooke a rose. He then “respectfully challenged” Hogan to a match at SummerSlam, which the Hulkster respectfully accepted. The two then shook hands, and all seemed well.

Until later that night, that is. As Orton and Brooke conversed, the Hulkster interrupted and brushed the Legend Killer aside. But after Hogan helped his daughter into their car, Orton snuck up from behind and gave him an RKO, sending the Hall of Famer face-first into the trunk of the car. As Brooke ran out to tend to her father, Orton walked away with a sly grin on his face.

SummerSlam has been the site of some of Orton’s biggest conquests; he won the World Heavyweight Championship from Chris Benoit in 2004, and last year father Cowboy Bob Orton helped him conquer Undertaker. Will SummerSlam 2006 see the Legend Killer’s biggest conquest yet, or will Hulk Hogan not even make it to Boston?

WWE Champion Edge vs. John Cena

The lengthy rivalry between WWE Champion Edge and former Champion John Cena will come to a head when the two meet for the WWE Championship at SummerSlam. Despite a healthy hatred between the two, the rivalry has consistently centered over the coveted WWE Championship.

Their first encounter for the gold was at New Year’s Revolution. On that night, John Cena successfully defended his Championship in a brutal Elimination Chamber Match against five other men, only to be greeted by Edge, who wisely chose to cash in his Money in the Bank contract for the right to face an exhausted and wounded Cena for the Championship. The ensuing match was brief, with Edge putting the finishing touches on an already worn down Cena, spearing the bloodied and battered Chain Gang leader and recording the pin to secure his first WWE Championship.

Edge’s first championship reign, however, was cut short when Cena recaptured the gold at the Royal Rumble. Edge was unable to regain the championship in subsequent rematches and found himself out of the hunt until after Backlash, when he once again found himself squaring off with Cena for the Championship. The match was a Triple Threat Match, including both Cena and Edge, and a third challenger, Triple H. While there was a third participant, the result was the same, as Cena again successfully defended his gold.

After Backlash, Cena’s focus turned towards ECW’s One Night Stand, where he was defending his Championship against Rob Van Dam. While the saga between Cena and Edge appeared to have been put to the rest, at One Night Stand, Edge proved that the rivalry was anything but over. The Rated-R Superstar interfered in the match, spearing Cena and opening the door for Van Dam to hit the Five-Star Frogsplash and win the Championship.

Several weeks later, Edge, Cena and Van Dam met in a Triple Threat for the Championship on RAW. On that night, Edge became a two-time WWE Champion when he pinned Rob Van Dam to claim victory.
Since then, the rivalry between Cena and Edge has only grown. The competitors met for the Championship at Saturday Night’s Main Event and Cena appeared poised to secure the victory but Lita had other plans, assaulting the referee and forcing a disqualification, allowing the gold to remain around Edge’s waist.

At SummerSlam however, if Lita tries to get involved, she and Edge will pay the price. Unlike normal WWE rules, at SummerSlam, the Championship can change hands on a disqualification.

Will Cena be able to regain the Championship, or will Edge continue to make this an R Rated Summer? Don't miss SummerSlam, Aug. 20 at 8/7 CT on pay-per-view to find out.

World Heavyweight Champion King Booker vs. Batista

As first reported Tuesday afternoon as breaking news on WWE.com, Theodore R. Long has announced that King Booker will defend his World Heavyweight Championship against Batista at SummerSlam.

For King Booker, who captured the World Heavyweight Championship just a month ago at The Great American Bash, Batista will be the next in the line of top notch opponents for his majesty. Since winning the gold, King Booker has faced Rey Mysterio in a return match and Undertaker on SmackDown, giving the reigning royalty very little time to rest on his throne.

The Animal, who was sidelined for nearly seven months with a triceps injury, has been unleashed since returning to SmackDown. Temporary setbacks against Mr. Kennedy have done nothing to slow Batista, and recently on SmackDown, he got his revenge on the ****y Superstar. After the match, Batista rejected congratulations from Michael Cole, instead opting to send a message to King Booker. “You can congratulate me when I get my World Heavyweight Championship back.”

At SummerSlam, the former Champion will get his chance to reclaim the crown from current holder, King Booker. What will happen when Champion and Animal collide? Find out for yourself on August 20th at SummerSlam, live and only on pay-per-view.

D-Generation X vs. The McMahons

After reuniting in June, D-Generation X has enjoyed embarrassing Mr. McMahon at Vengeance, Saturday Night’s Main Event and numerous times on RAW. Shawn Michaels and Triple H have belittled WWE’s Chairman in a variety of ways, including some of the most foul and heinous (not to mention, hilarious) pranks imaginable.

But lately the tides have turned, and DX is no longer smiling. First, Umaga took advantage of Triple H’s absence at RAW and dismantled HBK with a sneak attack. Then, after seeing how well it worked the first time they were separated, Mr. McMahon implemented a plan to divide and conquer his adversaries — and it worked again.

Planting contraband in Triple H’s possession, he alerted the police about The Game’s crime. Facing imprisonment or the chance to voluntarily go in for questioning, Triple H took the latter. His choice may have been the best for him personally, but for his partner —personally and professionally — it was terrible.

For the second time in two weeks, Shawn Michaels suffered a vicious beating at the hands of Umaga — this time with help from Michaels’ SummerSlam opponents, Mr. McMahon and his son Shane. After Mr. McMahon whipped HBK with a belt, the Chairman placed a steel chair in front of the Showstopper's face and Shane delivered a crushing dose of Sweet Chin Music to knock him out. How much more can Michaels endure before he’s unable to compete at SummerSlam on Aug. 20 against the McMahons?

Now that their match at SummerSlam has been set, what other tricks will the Chairman use to leave DX ailing as they head into their SummerSlam match a mere few weeks away? Can Triple H avenge HBK’s beating and overcome the power of Umaga? Or will Umaga continue his path of destruction and leave Triple H in shambles like he did with his partner?

The road to SummerSlam is revving up, and in 21 short days — no matter what condition the two are in or what roadblocks the Chairman uses — DX will step into the ring against the McMahons. The question remains: when the dust from RAW settles and SummerSlam approaches, which team will be healthy enough to emerge victorious?

Mick Foley vs. Ric Flair - "I Quit" Match

For weeks, Mick Foley has declined Ric Flair’s request for a rematch…but that was before Flair thumbed through Foley’s second book, Foley is Good. On RAW, after citing a passage from the book that stated Foley’s favorite match of all-time was from 1989 when the “Nature Boy” took on Terry Funk in an “I Quit” Match, Foley changed his mind and accepted the invitation for a match at SummerSlam. But it’s not just any match—it’s one of the most ruthless matches a Superstar can compete in: an “I Quit” Match.

When the two squared off at Vengeance, the Hardcore Legend lost to Flair in a 2-out-of-3 Falls Match, drawing the disqualification after reverting to his hardcore roots by grabbing a trash can and mauling him with a barbed-wire baseball bat.

Since that match, Flair has been obsessed with getting back into the ring with Foley. He’s made numerous demands, pleas and has taken drastic steps like getting into the ring with Big Show on ECW to prove he’s hardcore enough to take on Foley. He made it clear that he had no plans to stop until he got what he wanted.

Following their match at Vengeance, Foley told WWE.com that he accomplished his goal to “embarrass Flair.” He did lose the match, but the fact that Flair was left a bloody mess had Foley proclaiming “it was mission accomplished.” At that point, he was ready to write the “Nature Boy” out of his life for good, telling WWE fans on numerous occasions that he wasn’t going to have a match with Flair ever again. “I hold all the cards…and I’m not wasting a match on a piece of crap like you,” he told Flair on RAW.

After a confrontation on RAW a few weeks ago -- when the “Nature Boy” attacked Foley for making off-color remarks about his family -- the Hardcore Legend said the reason he wasn’t taking the match was personal.

“I made a vow back in 1994 that I would never do a thing to help you out,” said Foley.

While the holdout lasted for nearly two months, Flair’s method of constant demands has apparently worked…and now the two will go at it again until one of them screams “I Quit.”

These matches are typically brutal slugfests, and with a career full of hate between the two on the line, this “I Quit” Match will be no different. Their mutual distaste for each other has been brewing since their time together in WCW in the early 1990’s.

“Twelve years ago you had the chance to make me, to make my dreams come true, and you stepped on those dreams,” chided Foley.
Flair retorted with, “May one of us bleed to death in Boston,” demonstrating the mentality they’ll be in when the meet in the ring on Aug. 20. The “Nature Boy” has his hands full with this match, but in the frame of mind he’s put himself in over the past two months, he’s never been more prepared. Although Foley never wanted this match, he’s now locked into it, and he never shows up to a match — especially an “I Quit” Match — without exerting everything he has to leave the ring victorious.
While both Superstars insist it won’t be them, someone has to quit for the match to end. Which one will say it? Who will be the one to scream “I Quit?” Watch SummerSlam at 8/7 CT live on pay-per-view to see who crawls out in one piece

Rey Mysterio vs. Chavo Guerrero

As first reported on WWE.com, SmackDown General Manager Theodore Long has set a match at SummerSlam between two former lifelong friends – Rey Mysterio and Chavo Guerrero. The deep-rooted animosity between these men has grown to the point where Guerrero has agreed to come out of retirement to face Mysterio.

For Rey Mysterio, it has been an emotional month of betrayal and defeat at the hands of Chavo Guerrero. After months of supporting Mysterio, at The Great American Bash, Chavo did the unthinkable and cost Rey the World Championship. With the swing of a single chair from Chavo, King Booker was able to defeat the biggest underdog champion in WWE history and claim Mysterio’s livelihood.

Days later on SmackDown, Rey sought to reclaim the championship in a return match against King Booker. Yet again, Chavo involved himself and kept Rey from reliving his dream – a dream that he fulfilled at WrestleMania 22 in the name of Chavo’s uncle, the late Eddie Guerrero.

Chavo officially retired from sports-entertainment this past April after several disappointing losses in matches he’d dedicated to his uncle. Even in retirement, Chavo rallied behind his SummerSlam opponent in Rey’s quest to become World Champion. Following his heinous actions at The Bash and on SmackDown, Chavo went on the record several weeks ago to address his shattered friendship.

Calling Mysterio a “leech living off the blood of the Guerrero name,” Chavo said that Mysterio was trying to “steal the spotlight” by tying himself to Eddie Guerrero.

“[Rey] used the Guerrero name… I’m the Guerrero, Rey – not you,” exclaimed Chavo. “You didn’t just steal Eddie from me, you didn’t just steal him from the Guerrero family; you stole the memory of Eddie from each and every one of those people out there.”

In response, Mysterio confronted Chavo, and the two friends turned bitter enemies fought until Vickie Guerrero came to separate them. Frustrated and torn, Vickie kept Rey and Chavo apart, in hopes of preserving the family-like bond between the Guerreros and Mysterio.

On the Aug. 8 edition of SmackDown, Vickie spent time with both Rey and Chavo in the locker room area, pleading with them to bring their conflict to an end. Chavo was vehement in telling Vickie that Rey Mysterio is not part of the Guerrero family and that Rey stole the name and legacy of her late husband, Eddie. Conversely, Rey told Vickie that he would try his best to avoid fighting Chavo, but he could not guarantee that he wouldn’t.

Later that night, Chavo came out to the ring during Rey Mysterio’s match with Mr. Kennedy. Before Chavo could do much of anything, Mysterio immediately abandoned his match to meet head-on with his enemy. As the two brawled in the aisle, Vickie again came out to be the peacemaker. In the middle of the fiery skirmish, things escalated as Vickie was knocked hard to the ground.

This war between Rey and Chavo has gotten larger and more vicious with each passing week. Refusing to choose a side, Vickie Guerrero has been unable to keep both men apart and has put her own physical and emotional health at risk. With everything Rey Mysterio and the Guerrero family has been through in the past year, this contest is sure to be one of the most dramatic matches in SummerSlam history.

What will happen when these men go one-on-one on Aug. 20 in Boston? Find out live and only on pay-per-view.

ECW World Champion Sabu vs. Big Show

At SummerSlam. Sabu will finally get what he's been asking for, but will it be all that he hoped for?

Tuesday night, Sabu was able to seize his opportunity and secured the contract for a match at SummerSlam against ECW World Champion Big Show. He did this after brutally battling Rob Van Dam in a Ladder Match when Big Show interfered and was about to get the contract for himself (giving himself a bye at the summer spectacualar.) The champ had already slammed RVD through a nearby table, but Sabu knew it was his chance to get what he so desperately wanted.

Sabu jumped from the top rope onto Big Show's shoulders and grabbed the contract before the champ could bring him down with a huge power bomb. The angry giant went on to give Sabu a chokeslam, but he could not undo the fact that he would have to face the Suicidal, Homicidal, Genocidal, Death-Defying Maniac at SummerSlam.

For weeks leading up to him getting the contract, Sabu had asked Paul Heyman for an opportunity against Big Show and the ECW World Title. And for weeks, Heyman denied the request claiming that the ECW World Champion is too valuable to be subjected to the risks and bodily punishment Sabu has built his career on.

Sabu responded by taking matters into his own hands and repeatedly attacked Big Show with steel chairs and highflying maneuvers. Now that Sabu has his chance at the title, will he be able to make the most of it?

For weeks, Heyman's behavior has become more erratic. Claiming to be ECW's messiah, he seems like he will stop at nothing to build the brand in his vision, even if it means sacrificing the guys who made it what it was, like RVD and Tommy Dreamer. Sabu appears to be next on his list.

Some have argued that Heyman put Kurt Angle on medical suspension because he posed the biggest threat to his ECW World Champion. It also seemed like Big Show's interference in Tuesday's main event was to further protect him as champion. What will Heyman and his followers do at the Biggest Party of the Summer? Will Sabu be able to bring the gold back to an ECW original, or will Big Show and Heyman make an example out of him for his defiance?

WWE Championship
Edge vs. John Cena

John Cena picks up the win...as stated, the Marine is hitting theaters soon & the program will continue with Edge.

World Heavyweight Championship
King Booker vs. Batista

Booker T picks up the win with outside interference from Kennedy. I think that for the next few weeks & possibly months, we'll see Kennedy positioned as the "thorn" in the side of Batista.

Legend vs. Legend Killer
Hulk Hogan vs. Randy Orton

Alot of people are expecting to see Hogan take the win here. As much as I hate to say it, Randy Orton should take home the win at Summerslam. But he won't. Hogan is your winner. Post match, I'd expect to see Orton go after the Hulkster's bum knee & set up a rematch for a later date...this way, Hogan keeps his ego in tact & Orton can still cut promos in the meantime about having "killed Hulkamania".

I Quit Match
Mick Foley vs. Ric Flair

Everyone & their brother expects to see Foley pick up the win...it would follow WWE logic. For argument's sake, I'm picking Ric Flair. I think the tables will turn and Foley will be the one demanding a rematch from Flair in the weeks to follow...this is a well-drawing feud & it could be milked for one or two more big PPV matches.

ECW Championship
The Big Show vs. Sabu

Big Show has torn through RAW & Smackdown's biggest names. They won't have him lose the strap on a PPV that both of those shows headline. I'd expect to see a title change at MSG, which Heyman's supposedly trying to push hard. Funny that Angle got pulled out on Tuesday...I see him playing an impact in this match. Big Show retains.

D-Generation X vs. The McMahons

It's a shame DX hasn't brought in a new member to the group. If they're supposed to be so clever and tricky, you'd think that since the name leaves it wide open to encompass more people, they'd take advantage of it. Umaga will get involved with this one on behalf of the McMahons, but Triple H & Shawn Michaels will get their payback on him and take home the win for DX.

Chavo Guerrero vs. Rey Mysterio

This had some strong potential, but didn't have enough time or push behind it to make it a great match. Chavo should've cut his promo the night he attacked Rey at the PPV...but we all had to HAIL KING BOOKER so it didn't happen. It's a transition match, which is going to be the first of a few for these two guys, with Chavo Guerrero taking round one. Side note: would anyone else like to see Vickie Guerrero make a heel turn & side with Chavo against Rey?

Some Random Diva Filler

Surprised it hasn't been announced as of yet. Either way, I do not care.

WWE Championship
Edge vs. John Cena
Edge by DQ. Yes! The stipulation is suppose to be totally against Edge's favor... so I have a feeling Edge will find a way to get Cena to get DQed. Just a feeling I got and I'm sticking with it.

World Heavyweight Championship
King Booker vs. Batista
Batista by pinfall. They'll probably eject Queen Sharmell here or whatever. As much as I hate to see King Booker drop the title so soon... they have to have at least one face wrestler win the title on a pay per view... and that's going to be Batista.

Legend vs. Legend Killer
Hulk Hogan vs. Randy Orton
Randy Orton by pinfall after the RKO. Really bad feeling Hogan will refuse to job to Orton... but he really will have to, for the sake of the company. This feud is boring and I don't know what WWE was thinking... but hey. If the Legend Killer picks up the win, all the better for him.

I Quit Match
Mick Foley vs. Ric Flair
Mick Foley wins by Flair saying "I Quit". I think they'll pull what they did with the Rock/Foley thing before... where Foley said "I quit" 3 times on Sunday Night Heat, and they used the mic to replay that. I think Foley will win this way since he's the heel.. and Flair did scream "I quit" on ECW this past tuesday. You know WWE, always reusing ideas because they're too stupid to think of new ones.

ECW Championship
The Big Show vs. Sabu
Big Show retains by Chokeslam + Pinfall after interference by RVD and Kurt Angle. I just think the "main eventers" of ECW will show up here at SummerSlam. They'll try to screw Big Show, but end up harming Sabu... Either way, it's to set up something huge for later, because Big Show vs Sabu has no story really. Kind of like a match thrown together last minute as usual.

D-Generation X vs. The McMahons
McMahons by pinfall. If they're smart, they'll book Umaga well here. Umaga can destroy both HHH and Shawn... and possible have Shawn get covered rather than HHH. We'll just have to wait and see. McMahons have gotten the upper hand time and time again building up to Summerslam. Somehow, I just don't see DX winning in this PPV.

Chavo Guerrero vs. Rey Mysterio
Double Countout. It really depends on whether or not they want to continue this feud after Summerslam. I think it should, because the buildup doesn't seem strong enough after the Great American Bash PPV and it felt thrown together as fast as they could for Summerslam. I can see these two put on a good match, but then taking it to the outside with Vickie Guerrero in play. They both get counted out and feud will continue.

Lita vs. ???
If they do throw in a Women's title match... (Todd Grisham mentioned it in WWE Fantasy Weekly) then I'll just pick Lita to win. It just seems too fast for her to lose it. Again, nothing official, but Todd just said to have Lita on the fantasy team and stuff.

I'll edit this post if any matches have been added (on saturday).

- To be honest though. Not too excited about Summerslam. Card seems great on paper, but in reality... the things leading up to it. Two thumbs down.

I'm more of a Smackdown fan than RAW.
