World Heavyweight Champion Rey Mysterio vs. United States Champion JBL To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 20 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.
At Judgment Day, two champions collide for the biggest prize on SmackDown when Rey Mysterio defends the World Heavyweight Championship against the current United States Champion, JBL.
On the April 21 edition of Friday Night SmackDown, JBL challenged the winner of the following week’s World Heavyweight Championship match between Mysterio and Kurt Angle. After badmouthing both men, however, he was on the receiving end of a 619. (watch)
The following week, Mysterio somehow survived his championship match with Angle, as Mark Henry inexplicably interrupted the match as Rey was a half-second away from tapping out to the Ankle Lock. (watch) With Mysterio still the champion following Friday Night SmackDown, the official announcement of the match for Judgment Day was made on WWE.com on April 29.
On the May 5 SmackDown, however, Rey told JBL that he would fight anyone at any time. JBL used that opportunity to goad Rey into a match with Mark Henry, which saw the World Champion get pinned by the World's Strongest Man. After the loss, JBL told Mysterio that if he was still a man of his word, he would take on the 7 foot 3, 420-pound Great Khali on May 12. (watch)
Can Mysterio survive and make it to Judgment Day? And if he does, will keep his dream alive once again on May 21, or will JBL walk out of Phoenix with two championships?
King of the Ring Tournament Final To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 20 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.
On May 21, the King of the Ring tournament will conclude when Booker T takes on Bobby Lashley in the finals.
Booker’s path to the finals was a relatively easy one. After defeating Matt Hardy on April 21, he was set to face Kurt Angle in the semi-finals; thanks to an attack from Mark Henry, however, Angle was forced to withdraw from the tournament, giving the 5-time WCW Champion a bye into the finals. (watch Booker defeat Hardy)
Meanwhile, Lashley has had to win two matches to advance, first defeating Mark Henry by countout in the opening round on April 28. (watch) The next week, prior to the Finlay vs. Chris Benoit opening-round match, Booker said that it didn't matter if he defeated Finlay or Benoit in the finals. Lashley, upset that Booker forgot about him, came to the 5-time WCW Champion's locker room after the match; the hard-hitting newcomer told Booker of his anger, telling him that he would defeat Finlay in the semi-finals and then Booker at Judgment Day.
On May 12, Lashley completed the first part of his promise when he got his first-ever victory over Finlay in the semi-finals. Booker came out to watch the match, sitting in the King of the Ring throne perched in the entrance aisle. Once the match was over, the soft-spoken Lashley grabbed a microphone and told Booker that he was sitting in his seat. (watch)
The winner of the King of the Ring tournament will join some elite company, with former winners including Stone Cole Steve Austin, Triple H, Kurt Angle and WWE Hall of Famer Bret Hart. Will it be the 5-time WCW Champion or the soft-spoken, hard-hitting newcomer that walks out of Judgment Day with the crown?
Undertaker vs. The Great Khali To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 20 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.
At Judgment Day, Undertaker will head into one of the biggest challenges of his career when he faces The Great Khali.
On April 7, Undertaker fought Mark Henry on Friday Night SmackDown in a WrestleMania 22 rematch. During the match, Daivari, who hadn’t been seen since taking a Tombstone from the Deadman at Saturday Night’s Main Event, returned with The Great Khali in tow. Khali attacked the Deadman, laying him out with a monstrous chop and a series of headbutts. (watch)
Over the ensuing weeks, Daivari formally introduced Khali, saying that Undertaker was missing because he was scared of Khali (watch the introduction or watch Daivari talk about Undertaker being scared). On the May 5 SmackDown, however, General Manager Theodore Long approached Daivari backstage, telling him that Undertaker had challenged Khali for Judgment Day. He then handed Khali a contract, which was later signed to make the match official. That same night, Khali came out during a Triple Threat Match, decimating Super Crazy of the Mexicools, Kid Kash and Nunzio as they fought to become No. 1 Contender for the Cruiserweight Championship.
Can Undertaker overcome the 7-foot tall, 400-pound plus newcomer, or will Khali destroy the Deadman once and for all? Find out on May 21 at Judgment Day.
Melina vs. Jillian To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 20 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.
Former allies will become adversaries when Melina meets Jillian at Judgment Day.
In the summer of 2005, Melina brought Jillian to WWE as MNM’s “fixer,” helping them rebuild their image after losing the WWE Tag Team Championship. After successfully completing her mission, Jillian moved on to work for JBL.
However, Jillian was fired by JBL on the April 21 edition of Friday Night SmackDown. (watch) A week later, Melina ran into Jillian backstage after MNM’s match, mocking her for getting fired. Melina offered Jillian a job doing her make-up, but instead, Jillian threw a compact back into Melina’s face, and the two Divas got into a messy brawl. (watch)
It was rumored over the next week that Jillian had challenged Melina for Judgment Day, and the match was made official on the May 5 edition of Friday Night SmackDown. Which Diva will come out on top on May 21?
WWE Tag Team Champions MNM vs. Paul London & Brian Kendrick To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 20 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.
On Sunday, May 21, at Judgment Day, Paul London & Brian Kendrick will be facing a team they have become very familiar with recently, the WWE Tag Team Champions, MNM.
Over the past month London and Kendrick have had several encounters with MNM, emerging victorious each time. Both London & Kendrick have successfully defeated MNM in singles matches, a non-title match and a Six Man Tag Team Match. Unfortunately for them, those matches were not for the Championship.
The team of London & Kendrick were scheduled to finally receive their hard-earned championship opportunity on the May 5 edition of SmackDown, but MNM made sure that never happened. Melina came down alone and distracted the duo with her captivating entrance, leaving London & Kendrick prone to a blindside attack from behind by Mercury & Nitro. (watch) The attack left many wondering if MNM are scared of London & Kendrick.
Having had enough, SmackDown General Manager Theodore Long announced the following Tuesday that he has added a new match to the card for Judgment Day, and MNM will defend their Championship against the deserving duo of London & Kendrick.
Kurt Angle vs. Mark Henry To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 20 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.
At Judgment Day, Kurt Angle will look to right a wrong when he goes one on one with the World’s Strongest Man, Mark Henry.
The history between these two men dates back to January, when Angle showed up on SmackDown and last eliminated Henry to win a Battle Royal for the World Heavyweight Championship. Angle also later defeated the World’s Strongest Man at the Royal Rumble to retain the championship.
Both men were then involved in the King of the Ring tournament, and the Wrestling Machine defeated Randy Orton in the opening round. (watch) Two weeks later, Henry lost to Bobby Lashley via countout in the opening round, brutally attacking Lashley after the match. (watch)
Later that same night, as Angle took on Rey Mysterio, the World’s Strongest Man came out again and attacked the Wrestling Machine. Henry splashed Angle against the ringpost, and then put the Wrestling Machine on a table. The World’s Strongest Man then climbed the apron, and after gaining a head of steam, jumped and splashed Angle through the table, injuring his ribs. (watch) The injury put Angle on the shelf, forcing him to withdraw from the tournament.
On the May 12 edition of Friday Night SmackDown, Angle stormed into the arena and headed for Theodore Long’s office. He demanded a match with Henry that night, but Long would not give it to him because he wasn’t medically cleared. Long did compromise with Angle, making the match at Judgment Day instead.
Will the Wrestling Machine get revenge on Henry, or will the World’s Strongest Man dominate Angle once again?
Cruiserweight Champion Gregory Helms vs. Super Crazy To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 20 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.
At Judgment Day, Gregory Helms will defend the Cruiserweight Championship against Super Crazy of the Mexicools.
On the May 5 edition of SmackDown, Crazy took on Nunzio and Kid Kash in a No. 1 Contender’s Triple Threat Match. The match was interrupted by The Great Khali, who attacked all three cruiserweights, and the match was ruled a No Contest. (watch)
A rematch was set for the next week, and Helms sat in on commentary. After saying that he would face all three men if he had to, the champion looked on as Crazy rolled up Nunzio for the victory. Champion and challenger then stared each other down. (watch)
Who will walk out of Phoenix as the Cruiserweight Champion?
Chris Benoit vs. Finlay To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 20 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.
His name is Finlay, and he likes to fight. But so does Chris Benoit. And they will get the opportunity to show just how much they love to fight this Sunday, live on pay per view at Judgment Day.
SmackDown announcer Michael Cole hosted the Judgment Day press conference, which was shown live on WWE.com, and opened the event by telling the fans about the brand new match. And his first guest was none other than former World Heavyweight Champion Chris Benoit.
Just two weeks ago, it was Finlay who cost Benoit an opportunity to advance in the King of the Ring tournament. They met in an opening round match, and the fighting Irishman resorted to underhanded tactics to pick up the victory. With the referee distracted, Finlay used a steel chair to jab Benoit in the throat. With Benoit gasping for air, Finlay hit him with his signature Celtic Cross and picked up the win. It’s an incident Benoit has not forgotten.
Actually, Benoit has vowed that he will make Finlay tap out to the Crossface.
“Finlay will find out that the Crossface is for now, forever and for real,” Benoit said at the press conference.
These Superstars share very similar styles and are considered two of the best brawlers in sports-entertainment history. Their intensity is matched only by each other, so it’s no surprise that the history between these Superstars goes back much further than their King of the Ring match a couple of weeks ago.
In fact, the two had several memorable clashes during their days in WCW over the Television Championship. Finlay successfully defended his WCW Television Championship against Benoit at Slamboree in 1998.
The rivalry resurfaced on SmackDown back in February, and it has gotten more and more violent with every altercation. On the Feb. 3 edition of SmackDown, Booker T chose Finlay as a replacement in his Best of Seven Series for the United States Championship. After battling it out tooth and nail, Finlay was disqualified when Sharmell interfered. Ironically, it was Booker T whom Finlay defeated to become the Television Champion in WCW. Booker T managed to reclaim the gold from Finlay about a month later.
Over the next few weeks they found themselves on opposite sides of tag team matches, with each Sueprstar earning a victory. But during their WWE rivalry, they are 1-1 in singles competition.
Who will win this rubber match at Judgment Day? Can Chris Benoit fulfill his promise, and make Finlay tap out? Or will Finlay make it two in a row over the Rabid Wolverine? Find out this Sunday at 8/7 CT on pay-per-view at Judgment Day.
