Backlash Prediction Contest

We are only offering prizes for the big 4 PPV prediction contests (Royal Rumble, Mania, SummerSlam, Survivor Series). Prediction threads will still occur for the other PPV's (for fun only). This is the Last such thread. As more matches as announced, they will be added to this thread. State the person(s) who you think will win their match. In the event of a tie, also state how they will win it. An overall leaderboard will be created and maintained for these "fun-only" PPV's, through-out the year.

WWE Championship Triple Threat Match

Even Triple H admitted that he underestimated John Cena at WrestleMania 22. For weeks, leading up the Granddaddy of them all, The Game claimed that facing Cena would be his easiest Mania match to date. He said it was just a matter of time before he reclaimed his throne as the King of Kings. But he was wrong.

The Champ endured a hellacious beating at the hands of Triple H, but just like he’s proven in the past, he refused to give up and refused to be pinned. Instead, Cena fought back with a ferocity only fitting of a WWE Champion. In the end, he was able to lock in an STFU for a second time, and The Game was forced to tap out. Proving all of his critics wrong, The Champ was still here.

But Cena had no time to rest. The next night on RAW he was confronted by Triple H who wanted a rematch. But someone had an objection to that request – the Rated R Superstar Edge. Not only did Edge defeat Mick Foley in a devastating Hardcore Match at WrestleMania, but he pointed out, that unlike Triple H, he has been able to beat John Cena before. Edge cashed in his Money in the Bank opportunity at New Year’s Revolution and pinned Cena’s shoulders to the mat to win his first Championship. Since Triple H didn’t have a rematch clause in his contract, the Rated R Superstar felt he was next in line for Cena’s WWE Championship.

Get all the latest Cena, Edge, and Triple H gear here!

Later that night, Triple H and Edge actually teamed up to take on Cena in a Handicap Match. Before the match, Triple H and Edge agreed to put their differences aside to take out Cena. But the partnership didn’t last very long. Edge went to spear Cena, but The Champ sideswiped him and the Rated R Superstar leveled Triple H instead. The Game recovered and went right after Edge, hitting him with a spinebuster. Cena tried to join in on the beating and got ready to hit him with the Five Knuckle Shuffle, but the King of Kings cut him off and dropped him with a Pedigree. Triple H stood over the WWE Champion as RAW went off the air. (Watch the video)

The next week, it was Edge against Cena & Triple H, and the WWE Champion returned The Game's favor. The Champ & The Game were victorious, but not before Cena nailed Triple H with the FU before making Edge tap out to the STFU. (Watch the video)

On the April 17 RAW, it was Triple H on the business end of the Handicap, taking on Edge & Cena. The match came about as a reult of Triple H questioning Mr. McMahon earlier that night, and in the end, The Game succumbed to a spear from the Rated R Superstar, giving Cena & Edge the victory. (Watch the video)

At Backlash, it will finally be one on one ... on one, as the three men will meet in a Triple Threat Match for the WWE Championship. Once again the deck seems to be stacked against John Cena, as he doesn’t even have to factor into the decision in order to lose the gold. Will Triple H reign supreme for an 11th time? Will Edge defeat Cena like he did at New Year’s Revolution? Or will Cena once again overcome the odds to remain WWE Champion?

Shawn Michaels and "God" vs. Mr. McMahon and Shane McMahon

For months, the McMahon Family has been making Shawn Michaels’ life a living hell. But just when HBK thought he had won the war, he found out that his thinking was far from the truth. At Backlash, Michaels must face both Shane & Mr. McMahon, but he has a faithful partner on his side: "God."

One night after WrestleMania 22, HBK came out on RAW to address the crowd. He said that he was looking forward to getting over his spat with the McMahons, and was looking forward to perhaps challenging for the WWE Championship. Mr. McMahon, however, had a different idea.

The WWE Chairman and son Shane came out to rebut, telling Michaels that it was divine intervention that helped him to victory at WrestleMania. Mr. McMahon then told HBK that no one ever wins a war against the McMahons, and that he would need God’s help again at Backlash, because "God" would be his partner against them in a tag team match. (Watch the video)

After visiting a church looking for "God" the next week, (watch the video), Mr. McMahon found him on the April 17 RAW. Early in the night, Mr. McMahon announced a new religion, McMahonism, and said that he was the deity. HBK then came out of nowhere, nailing the WWE Chairman with Sweet Chin Music. (Watch the video)

Later in the night, Armando Alejandro Estrada offered Umaga's services to Mr. McMahon, and the massive Samoan took on HBK. The WWE Chairman interrupted the match, tying HBK in the ropes and grabbing a chair. However, as he tried to re-enter the ring, a bolt of lightning strick right near Mr. McMahon, almost an act of "God." It happened again as he tried to enter the other side of the ring, and Mr. McMahon retreated to the back. When he decided to head back down the entrance aisle, however, a fire broke out in his path. "God" had, indeed, sent a message to Mr. McMahon. (Watch the video)

Will divine intervention help the Showstopper overcome the odds one more time on April 30?

Shelton Benjamin vs. Rob Van Dam in a Winner Take All Match

Winner will take all on April 30 when Intercontinental Champion Shelton Benjamin faces Mr. Money in the Bank, Rob Van Dam.

At WrestleMania 22, RVD won the Money in the Bank Ladder Match, earning a championship opportunity at any time. On the April 10 RAW, Benjamin challenged RVD to a match at Backlash for the briefcase. RVD refused, instead challenging Shelton for the Intercontinental Championship.

The next week, RVD got to pick Shelton’s opponent, with the stipulation stating that if Shelton won, he would get a match for the briefcase…but if he lost, the match would be for the Intercontinental Championship. Shelton agreed, and his mystery opponent ended up being former partner Charlie Haas; when Haas got the pinfall victory, it made the Intercontinental Championship match official.

Later that night, Benjamin went to Mr. McMahon asking for help. McMahon agreed, putting RVD in a 5-on-1 Handicap Match against the Spirit Squad, with the stipulation being that if RVD lost, he would have to put the briefcase on the line at Backlash as well; he did, and so now he must.

So on April 30, one man will walk out of Backlash as both Mr. Money in the Bank and Intercontinental Champion. Will it be Rob Van Dam or Shelton Benjamin? Tune in to Backlash to find out.

Kane vs. Big Show

At Backlash, former tag team partners will collide when the 7-foot tall, 500-pound Big Show clashes with the Big Red Monster, Kane.

The night after WrestleMania 22 on RAW, the Spirit Squad pulled a huge upset when they defeated Kane & Big Show for the World Tag Team Championship. The next week, the former champions had a rematch, but before the bout, Kane began to hear voices in his head, with something telling him “they would all know” about May 19th, the date of the release of Kane’s movie See No Evil.

During the rematch, Kane snapped, chokeslamming everything in sight, including referee Chad Patton. The challengers were disqualified, and when Big Show tried to get Kane to calm down, the Big Red Monster gave his partner a chokeslam. (Watch the video)

On the April 17 RAW, after Kane defeated Rob Conway, the voices apparently struck again. Kane thought he heard Lilian Garcia say something about May 19th, and he went over to stalk her. After admonishing Lilian, Kane lifted her up for a chokeslam when Big Show came out again. Again, Kane tried to chokeslam Big Show, but the 7-footer was ready, instead sending the Big Red Monster to the mat with a chokeslam of his own. (Watch the video)

So on April 30, the former World Tag Team Champions will go one-on-one. Who will survive the battle of the 7-foot monsters?

Women's Champion Mickie James vs. Trish Stratus

The new Women's Champion Mickie James will defend her title against former champion Trish Stratus at Backlash. Since her arrival in WWE, the psychotic Mickie has been obsessed with Stratus. But when Trish refused to accept a kiss from James at Saturday Night's Main Event, Mickie focused all of her obsession on beating Trish for the Women's Championship.

The two RAW Divas squared off in what many consider to be the greatest Women's Championship match of all time at WrestleMania 22. In the end, it was Mickie James ending Trish's amazing reign after hitting her with a Mick Kick.

Recently, however, Trish has turned the tables and begun playing mind games with Mickie. Will the role reversal pay off for Trish at Backlash? Or will Mickie James make her first pay-per-view title defense a successful one? Watch Backlash to find out.

"The Masterpiece" Chris Masters vs. Carlito

On April 30, the recent tensions between Carlito & “The Masterpiece” Chris Masters will come to a head when the former partners turned enemies square off at Backlash.

For months, Carlito & Masters had a tenuous alliance. At New Year’s Revolution, the two struck their initial alliance during the Elimination Chamber Match in an effort to dethrone WWE Champion John Cena. However, Carlito broke that alliance, nailing Masters with a low blow and eliminating him from the match. He did the same three weeks later, blindsiding Masters to eliminate him from the Royal Rumble Match.

At WrestleMania 22, Carlito & Masters had an opportunity to become World Tag Team Champions, but were unable to defeat Big Show & Kane. During the match, Masters accidentally nailed Carlito coming off the top rope, leaving him easy prey for the pinfall. The two then argued in the ring following the match.

Do you spit or swallow? Click here for more.

The next night on RAW, Carlito came out after Masters’ victory, and all seemed cool between the two after Carlito spit in Masters’ victim’s face. However, when “The Masterpiece” turned his back, Carlito grabbed him and dropped him with a backcracker. (Watch the video)

On the April 10 RAW, Carlito came out to gloat about attacking “The Masterpiece.” When Masters came out to rebut, Carlito challenged him to an impromptu Master Lock Challenge. However, instead of applying his devastating finisher, Masters stopped to catch Carlito’s apple when it was thrown, giving Carlito the chance to pick up a chair and nail Masters in the head. After their confrontation, it was announced that the two men would settle their difference at Backlash. (Watch the video)

The next week, Carlito came out to interrupt Matt Striker's Classroom, spitting his apple in Striker's face. But as the two brawled, "The Masterpiece" made his move, locking Carlito in The Master Lock and leaving him laying in the ring.

Umaga vs. Ric Flair

At Backlash, one of the most legendary WWE Superstars meets the newest when “Nature Boy” Ric Flair takes on Umaga.

The night after WrestleMania 22, Armando Alejandro Estrada interrupted Ric Flair’s speech on RAW. He told Flair his time had passed, and introduced the man who would change the face of RAW: Umaga. Umaga viciously attacked Flair, laying him out with a modified overhead neckbreaker. (Watch video)

Three weeks later, on the April 24 RAW, Flair returned the favor. After Umaga’s victory, Flair came to the ring and attacked the massive Samoan, sending Umaga & Estrada running from the ring. Later that night, it was announced that Umaga and Flair would go one on one at Backlash.

Can the “Dirtiest Player in the Game” find a new trick up his sleeve to take out the dangerous Umaga, or will Flair become the biggest notch in Umaga’s belt to date? Find out this Sunday night at Backlash.

Edge will rise again...
