After claiming to have retired Undertaker after their August battle, the Deadman returned angrier than ever. At No Mercy, the two had a Casket Match to settle the score. Randy and father Cowboy Bob Orton managed to defeat Undertaker, but then in a heinous display, wheeled the casket into the entranceway and lit it on fire! It was assumed that Undertaker was burned alive, but when the Ortons opened the charred casket later that night, the Deadman was nowhere to be found.<SCRIPT type=text/javascript>DisplayAd("LargeBody");</SCRIPT>

Ever the opportunist, Orton emerged to attack Undertaker with a tire iron, leaving the Deadman slumped on the trunk of a low-rider. In an even more sickening display, Orton then backed the low-rider through the stage and into a bank of electrical equipment, which exploded and once again appeared to burn Undertaker alive.
That week on Friday Night SmackDown, Orton gloated about his accomplishment, but his boastfulness was short lived. After Orton defeated Matt Hardy, a familiar gong rang out, and Undertaker’s voice spoke from the heavens. A bewildered Orton tried to head to the locker room, but a lightning bolt struck and drove him throughout the arena. After some mind games, including Orton seeing himself in a casket, Undertaker announced that he was taking Randy to Hell….Hell in a Cell. Later that night,

In the weeks leading up to Survivor Series, RAW vented their frustrations by attacking the World Heavyweight Champion. On the RAW before Survivor Series, Big Show & Kane chokeslammed Batista through a car windshield, exacerbating his already injured back and shoulder. Just four days later on SmackDown, the World Tag Team Champions struck again, this time sending The Animal through the announce table. However, when Survivor Series rolled around, Batista, Mysterio and the rest of Team SmackDown still pulled out the victory over Big Show, Kane, and Team RAW.
Two nights after Survivor Series, Mysterio and Big Show locked horns once again on a SmackDown Special. As Mysterio seemed headed for victory, Kane made his presence felt and the RAW monsters dominated the smaller Rey, injuring his ribs. That Friday night on SmackDown, Mysterio enlisted

They weren’t satisfied after their victory, however, as the monsters continued their assault. As they set Rey up for a double-chokeslam on a chair, Batista made his way to the ring, delivering a spinebuster to Kane and using the chair on Big Show. After the RAW team fled the ring, Batista & Mysterio celebrated in the ring. Immediately afterward, the match was signed for Armageddon.<SCRIPT type=text/javascript>DisplayAd("LargeBody");</SCRIPT>

It appeared as if both men had the other pinned, and two separate referees counted the pin. After assessing the situation, Long ordered the championship vacated, and announced a Best-of-7 Series, with the winner becoming the undisputed United States Champion.
At Survivor Series, Booker took an early 1-0 lead, as Sharmell’s interference again helped Booker to victory. Two nights later on the SmackDown Special, another Booker victory gave him a 2-0 advantage.<SCRIPT type=text/javascript>DisplayAd("LargeBody");</SCRIPT>
On the Dec. 12 edition of Friday Night SmackDown, the third match of the series came to another controversial end. After an errant kick by Booker T knocked the referee unconscious, Benoit locked the Crippler Crossface on his foe. Sharmell grabbed a chair and rushed the ring, but the Wolverine saw her advance and rebuffed her. However, he left himself open to an ambush from behind, and a recovered Booker T blasted Benoit with the chair. He then hit a Scissors Kick, and revived the referee to gain the three count and a commanding 3-0 lead in the series. Later that night, it was announced that Match No. 4 would take place at Armageddon.
Down 3-0, Benoit must win four matches in a row to win the series. Can the Wolverine finally climb into the win column on Dec. 18, or will Booker T complete the sweep to regain the United States Championship? Order Armageddon on Dec. 18 to find out.
