I actually liked the fact that Matthews made the heel turn obvious. I was marking out before it happened, and then for a second thought they might just be teasing it. I dunno, I can see your point but I thought it worked very well. Minor point anyway of course because you said you enjoyed it a lot.
Not surprised you didn't like the ironman. Difference of almost 2 whole stars between our ratings.

It's another polarizing contest between John Cena and Randy Orton. This discussion is no different than all the other discussions. They are going to tell their style of a match which happens to be an EPIC and very theatric main event style of WWE... and some love it and some hate it.
I liked the story they told as this style of wrestling happens to be my favorite to watch. What makes this match even more polarizing than others is that we have the two most polarizing figures in the WWE taking part in it.
After watching the match, I'm really shocked you thought it was a MOTYC. What was so good about it?
Well firstly I thought it had a huge match feel. Secondly the drama was off the charts at certain points, such as the "will he, won't he tap?" finish and some of the other falls. I thought both men did really well portraying their characters and showing sufficient intensity, something which is often amiss in WWE today. There were some very memorable spots and moments, some good psychology with Orton being forced to tap early on to avoid further damage etc (I don't really buy your criticisms of the time wasting near the end, Cena knew that the big spot would put Orton down for sure so it was a risk) and was overall just hugely entertaining, in my opinion of course.
I've not enjoyed a match that much (in terms of visibly marking out and getting excited at various points) since Wrestlemania. Sure it helps if you like the guys involved, but I thought it was pretty much as good as it possibly could have been. People expected a borefest and it was anything but.

But here's the thing, Cena was down by a fall with less than 15 minutes to go. Logic would say get those two falls and then have your fun punishing Orton. Instead, Cena is very inconsistent. Sure, he had the big table spot, but that was after a stairs spot. Why wouldn't he just cover Orton after nailing him with the steps? What was the point of hitting all those big spots to lead into the FU through the table? Instead of only winning the match with less than 10 seconds to go, he could have been ahead for over 10 minutes. The inconsistency comes through when he runs out to quickly cover Orton after the pinfall through the table. Why was he now caring so much about getting in a quick fall? Once that doesn't work (Which I believe we were talking as this was happening on the stream and I pointed out that this was Cena being a dumbass from before) he then decides to take his time again to set up a huge spot. Surprise surprise...the spot fails. I just don't understand his logic which in turn is also the very psychology of the match. So much was supposed to be on the line for Cena, yet he didn't act like it.
This may be a worked sport, but that doesn't mean logic need not apply.

He had the match in his hands with fifteen minutes to go, he didn't need to rush because he had fifteen freaking minutes. Why panic with that much time left?

Because something could have went wrong and he would of either lost or win at the last moment like what happened? He won with less than 10 seconds to go. That right there should tell you that he shouldn't have been fucking around so much. This was for the World title and his Raw career. Why would you take the chance?

I fail to see why the Iron Man match was necessary.
They could have added the exact same tag lines on to the Hell In A Cell match and had it spontaneously go 40+ minutes to make it a memorable blow off.
I feel as if regardless of whether this Iron Man was good or bad, the fans already saw the blow off match at HIAC which caused the Iron Man to feel drained.
As for the match quality, I don't view it as harshly as some but I wouldn't even consider it to be close to being a match of the year. Despite the fact that it was suppose to be Cena putting everything on the line (Orton as well considering he wouldn't get a rematch clause for his belt) it felt void of the proper level of emotion to suit that situation.
Albeit creative, the hokey pyro spot didn't translate well. It dragged on and hurt the match.
I found during the final bit there was a lot of downtime. To the point that I was able to fast forward minutes at a time without missing anything crucial, and even in some cases the FF time being a complete transitional period in itself.
Cena is an underrated performer by a lot of his haters, but this match had just enough monotony to it to fuel that fire even more. This wasn't the classic it should have been.
