I don't think "they didn't have enough time" is a worthy excuse since they shouldn't have been in that position in the first place. It's just common sense to leave plenty of time for your main event so it doesn't become an anti-climactic dissapointment.

The fuck was this? You have two guys who are GREAT at stuff like bodywork, selling, submissions, etc and you have them do an Edge style "15 minutes of crappy filler before BS finish" match. I mean I dug it in places, and seeing Punk going toe-to-toe with Taker is a surreal visual, but this was a massive letdown considering what it should have been. The finish was also terribly done and was totally lacking in drama. I'm also pretty sure the Hell's Gate ban was removed when Vickie lost her power. Didn't he use it in the Michaels match?
Agreed. I absolutely loved the strike exchanges between Punk/Taker, but besides that - this was a MASSIVE let down. This might just be me, but it felt a bit rushed too. I'm not going to use the 'not enough time' excuse, but how they paced it and wrestled - just felt a bit faster than it should have.

Well whether there wasn't enough time left for the match or not, regardless the match wasn't long enough for a main event nor for anything to really get going, period. So even if you don't buy that the match wasn't supposed to be so short, either way, it was incredibly short and rushed.
