The last one was in 2002. I'm not talking about the little tournaments on Raw or Smackdown. The KOTR ppv's are where young stars shine. WWF/E seems to always put on great matches at those ppv's. So what i wanna ask, will there ever be another King of the Ring PPV? Would you want to see another King of the Ring?

The KOTR had a record of being one of the worst PPV's every year. Ignore Bret Hart's great performance in 1993 and you're left with very few good KOTR tournament matches on the actual show. It's a fun idea, but the WWE just can't do tournaments on PPV well.

I may be wrong. I'll have to look up my KOTR history again. I thoroughly enjoyed King of the Ring 2001.

2001 did have some pretty good matches, but it also had some stinkers. (God, what am I, 70?). However, I'd say it was still one of the poorer PPV's of the year.

It was a bad drawing show because most of the matches were speculatory unless they had only the semi and finals. I like the idea for a three hour RAW (where the tournament does not involve a midget) though

WWE have to put on a couple of three hour episodes of Raw per year. KOTR gives them something that they can fill the show with and it can be a great way of giving somebody a push.
Tournaments are crap in general. Not many people want to see the same wrestlers on the show more than once and the matches are often short and forgettable.

I loved the King of The Ring tournament, but i agree most of the tournment should take place on tv, the weeks before the finals on PPV. I think bringing it back would be a great idea, as you could have the tournament between Smackdown, RAW and ECW. You could have some very entertaining matches on the way to the PPV by mixing up the RAW, ECW and Smackdown superstars. Plus it'd be a great way to push some of the young ECW wrestlers. Even if someone like Sheamus caused an upset and reached the quarter finals or something, it's help get his name out there.
There is a chance of it coming back though:
Quote:
WWE sent out a survey to members of the WWE Universe asking for feedback on several possible new Pay-Per-View themes: Street Fight Event: Main events would feature no disqualification street fights Tournament Event: Single elimination tournament where Superstars would compete in multiple matches during the night to crown a winner Tables, Ladders & Chairs Event: Main events will be TLC Matches
Yea its good that they are trying to bring it back but i doubt that a lot of people would vote for it. They would probably be stupid and vote for TLC or a Street Fight PPV

Personally I'd love to see a KOTR PPV return. It is a great way to give younger guys some exposure and if you think about it, it's one of the more unpredictable nights in wrestling if done right. If they did one now, you wouldn't know who was going to win with guys like Morrison, Miz, MVP, Swagger, Dolph, Shelton, Christian, Kofi, Carlito, Bourne etc. It would be very entertaining to watch, and is just another way for them to elevate people and make some of these midcarders seem a bigger deal.
I do agree that the PPV was often not particularly great, but I think it definitely could be. It's just a question of putting the right guys in the tournament and booking it well. With all the midcard talent WWE have at the moment, I think it would be a great idea and it would make the winner, and some of the losers, look very good, as well as starting new feuds.
