At SummerSlam, World Heavyweight Champion Jeff Hardy will put his title on the line against former World Champion CM Punk in a Tables, Ladders and Chairs Match.
The match of Extreme proportions was born out of epic circumstances. Five days after CM Punk lost his World title to Hardy at Night of Champions, he viciously attacked the war-torn Charismatic Champion on SmackDown. The following week, before the two Superstars were supposed to have their World Heavyweight Championship rematch, they attacked each other in a state of absolute bedlam. Amidst the mass hysteria, WWE Chairman Mr. McMahon emerged, declaring that he would name a “special guest enforcer” to ensure order in their championship rematch later that night.
When the special enforcer turned out to be Jeff’s estranged brother, Matt Hardy, the WWE Universe sat on the edge of their seats in disbelief, wondering how his presence would affect the outcome of the match. But none of them were prepared for what they were about to see. Shortly after getting inadvertently kicked by Punk, Matt stopped the referee from delivering the three-count on Jeff, thereby denying Punk a possible victory. As Matt confronted Punk in the ring, Jeff rolled his opponent up, leading to a surprise three-count by his older brother.
An enraged CM Punk then viciously attacked Jeff for the second week in a row. SmackDown General Manager Theodore Long responded by making the blockbuster announcement that Jeff Hardy would face CM Punk for the title at SummerSlam in the TLC Match.
Jeff Hardy is quite simply a master of the Tables, Ladders & Chairs Match. The event itself, which Hardy helped to pioneer, is tailor-made for his Extreme personality. Although some claim that he is too reckless and takes too many chances, it is his outrageous nature fused with Extreme matches like TLC that have gotten him to the top of the mountain. But, will the World Champion bring the same reckless intensity now that he has so much to lose?
CM Punk is The Straightedge Superstar with fury in his eyes, driven by an undeniable thirst to get his gold back. He has used his focus, dedication, and exceptional skill to conquer the Extreme before, winning two, back-to-back Money in the Bank Ladder Matches at WrestleMania, both of which led to World Championship reigns. The anger that he feels toward The Charismatic Champion, which has led directly to his recent acts of ruthless aggression, fully demonstrates his intention to win the title at any cost. Despite his proven skill with the ladder, how will he fair once the Extreme elements are intensified by the power of two?
Find out who will overcome the wrath of the TLC to capture the gold, Sunday, Aug. 23 at 8/7 CT, only on pay-per-view.

Re: WWE Summerslam - World Heavyweight Champion Jeff Hardy vs. CM Punk
Personally I think this is a terrible choice for the stipulation. Obviously it works in that Punk was lucky to get another rematch, even after being screwed by Matt, so obviously Long wanted to give him a rematch that favours Jeff, especially after the way Punk has been acting. However, I don't think match type works at all for a personal feud. It will no doubt be the same old paint my numbers spotfest we see in every one on one TLC match, with a lot of down time and the same bumps we always get. This is not only repetitive, but doesn't really work for the personal nature of the feud and the way this has developed and intensified over the weeks. I would much prefer a match like a regular street fight, where hate can be conveyed a lot more easily. For me, it's hard to convey hate or personal animosity in a match with is so heavily choreographed and spot-happy.
Also, what the hell was with the Matt thing? I'm guessing I missed something because I wasn't really paying attention, but I just saw Matt screw Punk. Surely even if Punk had done something to Matt in that match, he wouldn't have wanted Jeff to keep the title considering how jealous he was and how he wanted to end Jeff's career. Unless Matt cuts a promo saying he wanted to take the title off Jeff himself, it makes no fucking sense.
But yeah, a street fight could have been great, but I'm not expecting too much from this. One on one TLC matches are generally fairly poor, and now that a fair few of them have been done, it has become apparent that they're very repetitive, and there is always a lot of lying around and awkward moments after big spots, with no other wrestlers to come in and stop peope climbing etc. Obviously there is the typical interference in every match to combat this, but that in itself is repetitive.
Why not just a ladder match? The TLC stip in general should have been left back in 2001.

From what I read, both Punk and Jeff have had a Ladder match at a House Show - which is really weird because well you know, it's not shown on TV.
I don't mind the stip, i'm quite a fan of a good spot fest. But yeah the whole Matt thing was weird, then again this is the WWE, so maybe we should just forget about Matt trying to kill Jeff and his girlfriend in a hit-and-run, whacking him over the head with a blunt object, costing him the WWE title, and trying tof frazzle his brother to death with pyro~! My god, Matt Hardy is an evil little git.
Anyway, if Jeff is leaving, then I expect them to add a 'Loser Leaves' stip the Smackdown before the PPV. But if he's staying, good for him. I can't pick a winner just yet, i'm 50/50. But this match should be (and hopefully, will be) main eventing, especially over Cena/Orton (a match I don't mind, but also don't care about).

Re: WWE Summerslam - World Heavyweight Champion Jeff Hardy vs. CM Punk
Anger about being hit clearly is more than the jealously over his brother.
Silly fools don't know anything, tsk tsk. Sarcasm noted. Now, people complain a bit too quickly... when you need to wait and see, yes? Matt could work with Punk afterwards to get title off Jeff, Matt could do a promo and say I want Jeff to keep the title for me to take it off him, Matt could say he doesn't like the way Punk's preaching things, etc etc. Who knows.
Now I've gotten off the subject of that..
TLC!
Mark out moment, for sure. I personally love it myself and if it wasn't for me getting poor, I'd order it for Punk/Hardy TLC... no lie. They'll do amazing things with it, that's for sure. With Punk, I don't think it'll be as spotty as a Jeff Hardy match would be, heh.

Yes, I have a GIF of two women kissing.
Yes, it's hot. Yes it's Megan Fox kissing another woman from Jennifer's Body. Yes, it's hot... owait, I already said that. Yes, I'm aware this makes me sound like a total lesbian. But this scene? UNF.
Re: WWE Summerslam - World Heavyweight Champion Jeff Hardy vs. CM Punk
As far as I know a ladder match has no rules. It is just a way to make the fans believe one guy has an advantage over another, by calling it a TLC match. If HBK and Triple H have a ladder match who would they build has the advantage.
I am just thinking that Jeff will keep the belt and lose it the next night some way, or on SD.
Re: WWE Summerslam - World Heavyweight Champion Jeff Hardy vs. CM Punk
If they do indeed add a loser leaves town stip to this, a Punk win will be fucking HUGE. Even if Matt comes in to help Punk win, it will still be immense, and put Punk and Matt over as the epic shithead heels they need to be.

No doubt Punk winning in Jeff Hardy's type of match would be huge and would FINALLY make him a credible Champion at the third time of asking, even if it was due to Matt's interference. That is the main positive of this stip. Also, it would be great for Jeff's own daredevil, risk taking nature to cost him his career as he missed a Swantom or something a la Survivor Series 2001.

Re: WWE Summerslam - World Heavyweight Champion Jeff Hardy vs. CM Punk
My guess is they didn't do a regular Ladder match because Jeff and Edge just had one. TLC's are my favorite matches though, and this should be a good one. I'm hoping this feud continues for another few months so it can be the FOTY over Jericho/Mysterio.

Cena vs Edge both disagrees with TLC matches not being a good choice for a match in a personal feud and one-on-one TLC matches being poor.
