BlackThorn Reviews - WWE Pay-Per-Views

I hope this is the right place to put my reviews, if not could a Mod be so kind as to move it to the right forum? Thanks!

-------------------------------------------

WWE Royal Rumble 2009

MATCH 1
ECW World Heavyweight Championship
Jack Swagger(c) vs Matt Hardy
First off, let me say that I really enjoy Striker's commentary, especially his obscure statistics. However, what I don't like is how he likes Jack Swagger, fair say, he is a decent wrestler, I just don't like him.

The "All-American American", indeed ¬_¬

I honestly thought Jack Swagger was gonna be an a$$hole and get counted out when he went out of the ring after the irish whip, seeing as how he retains the belt if he losses via count-out.

Of course, Swagger wins with that gut-wrench powerbomb of his. Matt looked like he was going to cry afterwards. Matt should've won, he dominated this match!

Overall, the match wasn't anything special, it was just...ok. 6/10

Length - 10:28
Winner: Jack Swagger

MATCH 2
WWE Women's Championship
Beth Phoenix(c) vs Melina
All right! A match with women, haha! Of course, a match with some WWE Divas is just not complete without Jerry "The King" Lawler on commentary.

Ooh! Beth painfully bended Melina's leg...so much so, that the foot touched her on back of the head...then kicked her with it!

Again, the loser had dominated the match!

An odd finish to the match, but it was OK, though, I miss JR and King announcing together. 5/10

Length - 5:57
Winner: Melina

MATCH 3
World Heavyweight Championship
John Cena(c) vs John "Bradshaw" Layfield
PROMO
The build up to this match was intense, and I have to agree with John Cena, though I can understand if HBK is in a tough position.

PRE-MATCH
I really don't trust JBL to keep his word, I don't think anyone does (or did, if you saw the event before-hand). Also, Undertaker out of freaking nowhere!

MATCH
It really does not feel right to see HBK with JBL, in fact, it makes me wanna puke, HBK really is better than this.

Cena keeps getting distracted by HBK, it really isn't going well for him. Cena was knocked out of the ring minutes later, of course, Cena keeps the belt if counted-out, so, JBL had to throw him back in.

Cena shifted the momentum and gave JBL a Five-Knuckle Shuffle to the face, but couldn't get the F-5 on JBL.

HBK looked like he really didn't want to stop the STF when Cena locked it in, JBL got out of it, though, still.

My god, HBK just Sweet-Chin'd JBL AND Cena, then dragged JBL onto Cena for the cover, and left, man it's hard to watch HBK do this.

New ref comes out and 1...2...no! Cena kicked out, jeez! Then F-5 and Cena retained the World Heavyweight title!

Wow, what a mtach! I really ejoyed this one, lots of intresting stuff happened! 8/10

Length - 15:29
Winner: John Cena

MATCH 4
WWE Championship
No-DQ
Jeff Hardy(c) vs Edge
PROMO
Jeff Hardy winning the WWE title is one of the coolest things to happen, then we find out someone (coughedgecough) hit his car, I like Edge, but he's such a dick now, then Jeff's pyrotechnics f**ked up.

MATCH
First off, I like Jeff's new music, as a song, as Jeff's theme...it doesn't fit.

Then Vicky Guerrero makes the match no-DQ before introducing Edge, who comes out with Chavo Guerrero.

Jeff just jumps into Edge in this match at first, then the match just keeps an even momentum. There's a lot of cool moves in this match, like Edge dropkick-ing Jeff, who's in mid-air.

Oneo f the biggest moves I saw was Jeff doing the Twist of Fate on the apron. Ouch.

Oh! Jeff took out Chavo with that high-flying move, I doubt he's gonna get back up after that! And the faceplant into the un-padded steel ring of the turnbuckle. Damn.

Swanton Bomb! 1...2...Damn! Vicky dragged the ref!

Matt Hardy then comes out, and gives Jeff the suggestion for a con-chair-to, but then hits Jeff! Oh god!

Matt! Why?! Good match, though. 7/10

Length - 19:23
Winner: Edge

MATCH 5
30-Man Royal Rumble Match
So, we kick things off with Rey Mysterio and John Morrison. Wow, Mysterio did some awesome hurricarana there! Carlito comes out 3rd and proves that he can still spit apples at people in the rumble.

4th was MVP, can't remember his full name Montel something Porter. He came into the match with some momentum in his engine.

5th was The Great Khali, everyone stopped fighting, and stayed far away from the entrance side of the ring when he walked down the ramp. Of course, the big man dominated the ring.

6th was Vladimir Kozlov came out and eliminated Khali in seconds! Then MVP! Almost eliminated Carlito, the latter tried to get back at him, but got eliminated instead!

7th was Triple H, HHH and Kozlov just stare each other down before fighting. HHH eliminated Kozlov.

8th was Randy Orton, Orton and HHH stare down, then fight, Orton dominates their little 1-on-1 scrap. Mysterio 619's Morrison, and everyone but HHH is down.

9th was JTG, who flopped a coin with Shad...but it was double-headed! It takes a com man to con another con man.

10th was Ted DiBiase Jr. No offence but, I just...do not like this guy.

11th was Chris Jericho, he used to be one of my favourite wrestlers but he's just not the same anymore. He was almost eliminated not long before the next countdown started, but he stayed in.

12th was Mike Knox. He went straight for Mysterio.

13th was The Miz. I find him to be very annoying, but, I've got to admit that he dominated the match for a while after he entered, until he got RKO'd that is. HHH then eliminated Miz and Morrison.

14th was Finlay, another dominating wrestler, he and Mysterio almost eliminated Y2J, almost.

15th was the Orton lackey #2, Cody Rhodes. Rhodes is a good wrestler, but he had so much potential as a Face superstar. There was also a big collision between Mysterio and Orton, and I'm not sure who hit who, but they were both hurt for sure.

16th was The Undertaker. Everyone halted when Taker came in. Taker eliminated JTG.

17th was Goldust. This guy is hilarious in backstage segments, he's not a bad wrestler either. He almost eliminated his brother, Rhodes. Twice. Then Rhodes eliminated Goldust as ordered by Orton.

18th was CM Punk. Man, people need to be eliminated, the ring is so crowded, I can't tell who's who!

19th was Mark Henry.

20th was Shelton Benjamin. One thing that bothers me is that he dyed his hair white.

21st was William Regal. Mysterio managed to eliminate Henry, which was quite suprising.

22nd was Kofi Kingston. Kofi is an amazing athlete, his moves are incredible, he also has great stamina. Taker eliminated Benjamin.

23rd was Kane. I prefer Kane when he was masked, he was much more intimidating then, too. After a while Kane ane and Taker came face-to-face and Double-Chokeslam'd DiBiase. Punk eliminated Regal.

24th was R-Truth. I remember when he was with Road Dogg as K-Kwik, I loved that tag team.

25th was Rob Van Dam. RVD returned! I love this guy, and he doesn't dissapoint, showing that he's still got it.

26th was The Brian Kendrick. Why the hell is he called THE Brian Kendrick now? Kendrick eliminated Kofi. HHH eliminated Kendrick not long after, and, like King said, he only lasted about 15 seconds, he had no chance.

27th was Dolph Ziggler. This guy, I almost hate him as much as I hate Swagger. Kane took him out with ease.

28th was Santino Marella, he was gone so fast, I almost didn't see Kane eliminate him!

29th was "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan. I can't believe how he just powered into Taker and Kane like he did.

And finally, at #30 was Big Show. Show eliminated Hacksaw, then Y2J jumped onto Show and tried to put him in a sleeper hold. My god, it took three tries for Show to eliminate Punk! Jeez!

Hornswoggle came out of nowhere after somehow, off camera, Mysterio and Knox were both eliminated. Kane eliminated Finlay. Show and Taker went face-to-face. Y2J eliminated RVD.

Taker eliminated Y2J, not long after the latter eliminated RVD. Then Orton and his lackies eliminated Kane. Taker and Show then continued their 1-on-1 encounter, Taker won the standoff by knocking Show down with a clothesline, then Orton tried to RKO Taker, don't need to tell you that it didn't work.

Orton then eliminated Show, Show then eliminated Taker from outside the ring. Legacy dominated HHH, before HHH dominated Orton and eliminated his lackies with ease, he almost eliminated Orton too! But then Orton got HHH;

What a match! Really, I love the Royal Rumbles, though, I'm somewhat upset that Orton won. 9/10

Length - 58:35
Winner: Randy Orton

OVERALL

Re: BlackThorn Reviews - WWE Pay-Per-Views

Someone should move this to the PPV section imo.

Anyway, I wasn't really into this show to be honest. I always enjoy Royal Rumbles and obviously the Rumble match was entertaining, but I thought it failed compared to other recent Rumbles. It didn't really have the epic feel towards the end that others do, partly because of some awful choices for some of the later entrants such as Santino and Dolph, and partly because the whole "HHH vs The World" thing was pretty uninspiring. Don't get me wrong, it worked for what they were going for, but I much prefer it when you have like 4-5 huge stars left and you don't know who is going to win, rather than 2 stars and a couple of lackeys to help one of them win.

Wasn't a huge fan of Cena/JBL either. I don't think they work well together. They've had far too many PPV matches and to me, outside of their I Quit match at Judgment Day back in 2005, they've all been pretty mediocre.

The HBK/JBL angle was intriguing at least though, and that helped the match.

Good review, I didn't enjoy the show as much as you though.

Re: BlackThorn Reviews - WWE Pay-Per-Views

I enjoyed the show, just not as much as I wanted to. I also thought the Royal Rumble match itself was a let down, and only save by Rey Mysterio being amazing and Orton RKO-ing the fuck out of everything the moved.

And Punk giving Triple H a GTS!!

But yeah, it just wasn't as memorable and didn't have as many "moments" as I would expect from a Rumble, as well as the finish being anticlimactic.

He did?

I missed that bit obviously, or else I would've marked like a junkie in a meth lab.
