Re: August PPV's History And Discussion

Why didn't you just call it Summerslam history and discussion? lol

Anyway, this has been pretty much covered by me in Bigpapa's thread on the history of Summerslam, but I have not seen most of the early ones. It has produced some great PPVs, particularly 2002, which was one of the best PPVs ever and had a great card from top to bottom, and 2000, which was just a hugely entertaining show with some very memorable matches such as Benoit/Jericho and the first TLC.

I disliked both 2006 and 2007, but 2008 at least had a big feel to it and both of the main matches were good, if flawed.

Fair enough. I assumed you were only doing that for ones that have changed names in the past, but I guess it works doing it by month for all of them.

Now that I think of it, 2001 was also a really good Summerslam. 2000-2002 were great years for the PPV. Shame 2003 kinda sucked, although I do believe the Chamber is underrated.

Re: August PPV's History And Discussion

In my opinion 2001 was average, the ladder match was fantastic, a great match between Austin and Angle despite the terrible finish but the rest of the card was meh.

Didn't you like Booker vs Rock? I really enjoyed that, and the finish was funny.

Re: August PPV's History And Discussion

I loved Summerslam 97. I was a huge fan of the Hart Foundation, and every one of them (except Jim) was involved in a match. Even Pilman got in on the action. I can't remember watching him in too many WWE matches.

The main event was really good, and seeing Shawn clock Taker with the chair, and count the 1,2,3 for Bret was just sweet. It also set up the epic feud for Taker and Shawn shortly after.

The opening was a really good battle between Triple H and Mankind. I haven't seen that match in years, so I might have to go and dig that one out of my DVD collection.

The event also has the famous incident where Owen injures Stone Cold inadvertently, causing his neck injury.

Re: August PPV's History And Discussion

Last year's was pretty great. Three world title matches, a "dream match", and HIAC. I hope this year can compare, with DX reunion, Cena/Orton, etc. it's starting off well enough.

Re: August PPV's History And Discussion

Summerslam was the first PPV I every watched, '91 it was, with the awesome Perfect/Hart IC Title match. It'll always hold a special nostalgic place with me for that, but recently it's been a bit crap. Even last years was only ok.

Re: August PPV's History And Discussion

Lols, Summerslam was also my first event, but it was Summerslam 89 which seemed awesome in its day but looking back now it was mediocre.

I also went to Sumnmerslam 92, sat on the third row.
