I noticed that the Great American Bash is now simply known as The Bash, and that there is now a "Hell in a Cell" PPV (which sounds very gimmicky, but that's probably for another thread) as well as one called "Breaking Point". What is the WWE trying to do here?

With The Bash, and changing Unforgiven (?) to Bragging Rights, I think they are just trying to rebrand them and freshen them up to create more interest.
With Breaking Point and Hell in a Cell, we are actually seeing new PPV concepts, which I would consider to be a pretty bad idea. I think PPVs should be sold on the strength of the card, and should be completely different each year, rather than being sold on a certain stipulation. Breaking Point being all submission isn't an awful idea, but I hate hardcore overkill PPVs, and even though only the main event is HIAC at the Hell in a Cell PPV, Hell in a Cell really isn't the sort of match you do once a year. It should be done far less than that, and having a set time for a HIAC match every year pretty much destroys the illusion that the match is only used when a feud becomes particularly brutal. Plus PG HIAC matches are fail anyway, as blood is so important to put over this brutality and tell a good story.
I dislike gimmick PPVs really, but the name changes I can live with. Freshens things up I guess. Bragging Rights is an awful name for a PPV though.

That's worse than what I anticipated. Aside from a few people, that would be a massive no-selling botchfest. However, I do agree that the HIAC is special, and should be treated as such. I also think that the foundation for HIAC, and it's main selling point to Tom Consumer is its brutality. Going into that type of match, you expect blood, incredible spots, and a good deal of bodily harm. Something like that should only happen when a feud gets to the point of where Cena/Edge or Taker/Batista was.

I cannot answer any of your questions, except for The Bash. The Bash is being renamed from The Great American Bash for one reason and one reason only. The WWE is trying to become more globar orientied, instead of United States only. Thus, they changed the name from The Great American Bash into The Bash. Nothing really to it, its a small name change. The gimmick stays the same. Alls well.
I posted in the other similar thread on PPV name changes that a WWE executive explained why they are doing it. The basic answer is that they want PPV names to reflect the storylines (i.e. Extreme Rules having all matches under extreme rules). I don't get the big deal, WWE did this all the time with In Your House (like "In Your House: A Cold Day in Hell", "In Your House: Canadian Stampede", "In Your House: Beware of Dog", etc.). I hate the name "Bragging Point" though and hope they change that again (in the last month it went from Cyber Sunday to Annihilation, back to Cyber Sunday, and now to Bragging Point).

Bragging Rights Mr. K, please. Breaking Point is an entirely different PPV. But I agree It's a terrible name... Bragging Rights, not Breaking Point (but that's cos I wrote a song called Breaking Point, haha).

Haha, I guess I hate the name more than I thought if even I couldn't be bothered to remember the name.
