ECW Champion Tommy Dreamer will defend his title against his friend and former Champion, Christian, at Night of Champions. To make the situation even more Extreme, the ECW Original will put his title on the line in the city with the longest and most storied ECW history – Philadelphia.
Christian earned the No. 1 contendership by defeating Vladimir Kozlov with a Killswitch on ECW on Syfy, as Dreamer looked on from the announce table. (MORE | WATCH) The ECW Champion said he’d defend his title with honor against either Superstar at Night of Champions, but he admitted he’d rather face Christian, who he said is a great competitor and friend. Dreamer got his wish – but at Night of Champions, will he regret hoping to face former ECW Champion Captain Charisma?
Night of Champions will mark the first time Dreamer and Christian face each other one-on-one at a pay-per-view. During his ECW contract extension, Dreamer earned the ECW Championship – an achievement he hadn’t accomplished since 2000 – at Extreme Rules against then-titleholder Christian and former ECW Champion Jack Swagger. The ECW Original again held on to his title at The Bash when he won the ECW Championship Scramble against Christian, Mark Henry, Jack Swagger and Finlay. With the latter three Superstars gone to other WWE brands via Donald Trump’s Trade, the only Superstar standing in Dreamer’s way of holding on to his Extreme dream is Christian.
Both Dreamer and Christian are ECW Superstars motivated by heart, soul and fortitude. With the City of Brotherly Love as the Extreme backdrop to this colossal clash between friends, the ECW Championship Match at Night of Champions surely won’t be one to be missed. Will Dreamer continue his reign over the Land of the Extreme after Night of Champions? Or will Christian crush the ECW Original’s dream and leave Philadelphia a two-time ECW Champion?

Tommy for the win!
If he loses I'm actually gonna be dead pissed off. I love Christian, but I don't want the ECW Title back on him yet. Seems like pointless hot potatoing to me.

Dreamer winning the title then staying with the company was worthess. It would've been a fine nostalgia/retirement win, but that's it. What's he going to do after the title reign? Nothing, like he's done throughout his WWE career.
There needs to be a new champion, but not Christian. As a whole I tink multiple ECW title reigns are pointless. You reach the top and you get out, that sort of thing.
Christian will win. The belt will be defended at SummerSlam and Christian would beed to be on the show over Tommy Dreamer.
I still think Kozlov should be the one facing Dreamer. But after that quick match the other day I don't think he's going to be a serious challenger any time soon.

Dreamer should have never won the title. Swagger should still be on ECW and be the current champ. He needed a LONG title reign before heading to RAW or SD. They rushed him and it will cost them I think.

They rushed him? They started his push, slow and steady, near the beginning of the year.

I disagree. Having him win and then vacate the Title made no sense with the build it was given, or the character Dreamer has been playing since ECW started again. I also think after he drops the Title to Kozlov, he'll be positioned as the guy you beat before you challenge the Champion. It only makes sense considering the fact they promote him as the heart and soul of ECW, that he not play a worthless jobber.

There was hardly any build to it at all. He announced that he was going to win the title by Extreme Rules or retire. Then they had him do waht he usually did for a couple of months. Until about 6 weeks befoe the show. Which is an insufficient ammount of time to build up somebody like Dreamer who's done close to nothing in 8 years with the copmpany.
Him winning & vacating the title is better thn him winning then slipping down the card. I doubt very much WWE will give him another oppertunity to retire as a champion. He'll more than likely just be phased off the roster.
Also, defeating Dreamer is hardly going to mean much. The only people who he's defeated himself recently have been Swagger, Christian and ECW nobodies. Two wrestlers who got more than their fair share of wins over him.

Are you kidding? Yeah, Dreamer continued to job following his announcement that if he didn't win the Title he'd retire, but it would have been stupid if he didn't have an adjustment period before his first win. Dreamer climbed the card following that and earned his shot at Extreme Rules. He has been pushed convincingly and deserves his spot. His eventual loss, will slip him down the card in the same way losing the Title does to anyone. As long as they keep Dreamer strong (as they have so far) a win over him will mean an awful lot on ECW at least.
