This match was brilliant, and even with a finish I'd have prefered had gone the other way, I still marked like a bitch for the majority of it, and enjoyed it immensely. Let's just hope they move forward right with it.
Agreed. Just keep the booking good, and it's smooth sailing from here.

Re: WWE Night of Champions - World Heavyweight Champion CM Punk vs. Jeff Hardy
Just got done watching this and 2 things about Punk:
1. The difference between him here and him as the cookie cutter face was huge. So much personality. The guy may have the best mannerisms and expressions in the company
2. Is it me or is continuingly doing indy references as some sort of wierd in-jokes? First Ki's Dragon Clutch here, then the Danielson elbows on Smackdown. I'm pretty sure there was something else I'm forgetting.

I think it is just Punk attempting to use moves he knows from facing guys in ROH that he obviously couldn't use in the same promotion as the guys who used it as signatures. I will admit I marked a bit for the MMA elbows.
I'm not huge on indie wrestling, but isn't the Go2Sleep Kenta's finisher? I'd assume it is the same sort of thing. Taking "safe" indie moves that haven't been used in WWE and using them.

I think it's possible that whoever's booking SmackDown has asked Punk to add some new moves to his arsenal and to make those moves not only fit in with his character, but also for those moves to come from his roots. I certainly think it's great that they're allowing him to expand his moveset, and I did mark like a girls when he used the elbows. I actually screamed "ELBOWS!!" at the screen. Fact.

Did I say "tell"? I don't think I did. I believe I said "asked", but that's neither here nor there. WWE has to approve each move a wrestler uses before it's used so whether it was the bookers, Punk, or Aslan of Narnia that suggested the use of the moves mentioned doesn't really matter. Any way you look at it, my point that it's great the 'E are allowing Punk to expand his whole reportiare (sp?) and not just his promo's, is great.

Aside from maybe the Go2Sleep which seems like a hazardous move when done to somebody who is harder to handle (didn't Snitsky break his beautiful nose taking it?) I doubt Punk would have to get approved with management MMA Elbows which is just a different form of elbowing Hardy.
Just like with the Go2Sleep, I doubt it's anything that major. It is likely just Punk knowing a ton of diverse moves due to the diverse range of styles he worked against in the indies. The difference is when Punk is in ROH he could not use MMA Elbows because that is a Danielson trademark. It would be akin to Undertaker hitting the Five Knuckle Shuffle. Now that he is in WWE and very few WWE fans are aware of ROH guys, let alone their trademarks it is perfectly fine for him to use those cool moves.
