Kane/Trips from 2001, Show/Lesnar from 2003, JBL/Eddie from 2004 and Finlay/Benoit from 2006 (although I don't recall it ending in DQ >_>).
Kane vs Triple H? Come on, think about all of the great matches 2001 produced. The Royal Rumble match, Benoit vs Jericho ladder match, Rock vs Angle No Way Out, Rock vs Austin WM, Angle vs Benoit WM, Benoit and Jericho vs Trips and Austin, Benoit vs Austin Smackdown, Jericho vs RVD Unforgiven, Rock vs Jericho No Mercy, Rock vs Austin Rebellion and Austin vs Benoit vs Jericho KOTR, and you still think that's a MOTYC? Hell, it wasn't even the best match on the PPV.
The ladder match from the same show was better in 2003. Still, you had Austin vs Rock, Jericho vs Michaels and Brock vs Angle from WM which were all better. The 5 star match with Benoit vs Angle at Rumble. Brock vs Benoit at the end of the year. And the criminally forgotten TWGTT vs Kidman and Mysterio at Vengeance.
JBL vs Eddie was in the same year as Benoit having 4 star matches every other week. Benoit alone had a good half dozen at least better than that match. You also had Eddie vs Angle at Mania and a few other matches scattered about.
Benoit vs Finlay was good, but I wouldn't call it a MOTYC. It's just another typical good, but not great Benoit match. He had just as good of a match against Regal at No Mercy.
Like I said, I don't see where these MOTYC's at JD are coming from. Personally, if I call a match a MOTYC, I'm saying it's one of the 5 best matches of the year (Or in the company for the year). And none of the matches you named I can admit to being MOTYC's.

When I think "MOTYC" I just think of great matches, didn't really think to put them in perspective with what else happened that year.
2001 was a great year I agree, whilest Trips/Kane can't contend with various Rock and Austin matches that year, it was still a really great match.
The ladder match from JD 2003 was your generic run-of-the-mill ladder spotfest with nothing to differenciate it from a hundred or so other ones this decade outside the cool finish. I'd put lesnar/show above Jericho/HBK and Angle/Brock too if I'm being honest, though both those suffered from dead crowds. HBK/Jericho was very good though it had a lot of boring meandering parts in the first half and HBK just did the same shit he does every big match. Rock/Austin and Angle/Benoit were better but outside of that I'm sturggling to think of matches I liked more than Brock/Show.
Maybe JBL/Eddie was a better suited at being a Smackdown MOTYC because of Benoit. Angle/Eddie from Wrestlemania wasn't as good, they had some matches of Smackdown that were better and JBL/Eddie was better than all of them imo.
Assuming I am thinking of the right Benoit/Finlay match (did they have any other PPv matches?) then that match was second only to Angle/Taker as WWE matches that year and was amazing. "Good match" doesn't really do that sort of match justice in my opinion.

They only had one WWE PPV match (They did wrestle at WCW Slamboree 1998 though) and a few SD TV matches.
I really don't see what's so special about it though. It was just your average Benoit match that he had dozens of each year along with some better matches.

Can't recall much of the Regal match so I won't comment but Benoit/Finlay was some seriously epic shit.
But their SD match from a couple of weeks earlier was better. To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 20 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.
Trust me, I'll be the first to talk about how epic a Benoit match was, but I can't say the Finlay one was any better than his normal top quality shit.

Nah the Smackdown match was damn good too but the JD match was unreal. It was probably the best post-2004 Benoit match. Don't really see what was wrong with it...

Well the finish was BS. Other than that, I don't see what's so exceptional about it. Honestly, it's just a normal Benoit match.
