Just wondering where people stand on this issue. Obviously last night at Backlash we saw a segment on PPV, and WWE have done it quite a lot over the years. Do you mind seeing segments on PPV or do you think PPV should be kept exclusively for wrestling seeing as you are paying your hard earned money to see it?
I personally think that segments sometimes work on PPV, but it has to be a segment which furthers a key feud at the time, such as the Summerslam segment between Jericho and Michaels last year. As for pointless shit like Santina last night, I literally have no idea why WWE deemed it necessary to put that on PPV, other than the obvious answer that it was pure lazy booking to fill up some PPV time with only 6 matches. Either way, watching a PPV with shit like that on it just leaves a bad taste in my opinion.
I personally think you're using your hatred for the Santina character to fuel yet ANOTHER topic about the diva division.
I don't have an issue with PPV segments, provided they keep them short. I don't need a segment that goes on for 5 minutes or more as I agree I'd rather see wrestling on a show I paid $50 to see. But sometimes it's a nice break in the action to get a quick scene. I'll enjoy it if it's either for comedy's sake or to further a storyline.
I say comedy's sake because again, it's a nice (and quick) change of pace from the 3 hours of action I'm seeing. Just like I enjoy John McClane spitting out "Yippe Kay-ai-ay mother f..." in between kicking badguy's asses.
I actually enjoyed the 'Santina' segment at Backlash. It was a breath of fresh air and its something a 3 hour PPV needs. As soon as the Hardyz spotfest had finished I was getting bored and uninterested in the PPV...Then 'Santina' appeared and I was in heaven...J/K
But I think PPV's do need some form of a segment and as long as it doesn't involve a guy like Cena cutting uninspirational promos, I couldn't care less. Wrestling in the WWE's eyes is Entertainment and thats they type of thing I want to see. 3 hours of wrestling is way too long for anyone to sit through and watch, thats why its good to have a 10 minute segment.
Depends on what it actually accomplishes. The shit at Backlash was just a huge waste of time, but at the same time the HBK/Jericho segment at last year's Summerslam was the highlight of the show. As long as it serves a purpose in terms of an angle, fued progression, etc it's all good.
I hate long drawn out comedy shit on PPV. Whether it's ODB thing in TNA or Santina shit in WWE. The HBK/Jericho segment is an example of a segment that works on PPV because it's a big deal.
I personally think you're using your hatred for the Santina character to fuel yet ANOTHER topic about the diva division.
Ummm no. That is just a good example of how a segment wastes PPV time. What does this have to do with the diva division? Nothing.
Also, your Die Hard comparison doesn't really work, because that's just one line of comedy. The equivalent of that would be the short backstage comedy segments they do, which I actually like. I am talking about the ones which drag on and waste like 20 minutes unnecessarily.

If it makes me laugh, or is really huge and vital to a current storyline, I'm ok with it. The Santina skit made me laugh, but it did go on far to long, and JR's involvement was unecessary and possibly unprofessional considering his reaction. Seems he didn't know about it at all, which could've led to hilarity ensuing with JR walking out, on-air and maybe even announcing the remaining results of the night. Which would've been funny.
JR's involvement was the best thing about it. When Cole said ''come on BBQ man'' and JR said ''who fed you that line?'' that had me rolling on the floor.
Agreed. That and him saying to King, "You're not gonna let her come over here are you?" had me in total stitches and were joint quote of the night for me... But it wasn't exactly fair to, once again, pick on JR for laughs. Especially on live TV. They only get away with it because JR's a professional. On screen at least.
The segment was still amusing without it, although nowhere near as funny, and certainly not PPV worthy. Without that section, and a little less squiming from Santina and this segment could've been cut down to 5 minutes and not taken up so much time and The Colons or MVP or Rey or even the women could've had an impromptu match for their titles.
