I know the match was confirmed quite a long time ago now, but I was just thinking about this last night. Obviously John Cena has got in on the Edge vs Show title match, which adds star power to the match and makes it more interesting. While I am aware that Cena will always have more than his fair share of ''haters'' on a wrestling board, I can't be the only one who thinks that throwing Cena into this match is a waste of him and his talents?
Firstly, the feud isn't even about him. The Edge/Show/Vickie love triangle has been the main focus of the build and Cena is just kinda randomly thrown in there just so he is in a title match and the match is more entertaining for the casual fan. Cena isn't really feuding with either of the guys. Then there is the fact that Cena was also involved in a triple threat last year, and once again, it ended up being Triple H vs Orton who engaged in an actual feud while Cena was just one guy in a triple threat who didn't win, and didn't go on to do much for the rest of the year.
The main reason I believe this year's match to be a waste of Cena is the crowd reactions. If you look at his matches at Wrestlemania 22 and 23, John Cena is clearly a guy who can get BIG reactions in an epic one on one match. He needs to be put in a situation which creates drama and forces fans to pick a side. The crowd reaction to Cena matches was one of the highlights of Wrestlemania during those years. If put in the right situation, Cena matches just seem huge, and huge, dramatic matches are what Wrestlemania is all about. This is, of course, without even mentioning how great he is as a wrestler on the big stage. You can always rely on a very good match from Cena.
Keeping all that in mind, doesn't throwing him into a random comedy triple threat for the title of a different brand seem like a waste to you too?

Yeah, I agree. It seems like (surprisingly) they had nothing to do with him for this Wrestlemania, all the spots were filled. He was at Raw when all of the Edge/Show/Vickie shit was happening, then just kinda got thrown in there. If he were a lower level wrestler, he would have been thrown in MITB, I'm comparing here. I don't really mind it though, it's a nice break from the usual thing we see at Mania, although I hate these kinds of storylines, it feels like it should be a storyline for a secondary PPV.

It seemed like they might have been building up John Cena vs Batista for Wrestlemania, so I'd say that's why it looks like they have nothing for him sorta.

Yes, I have a GIF of two women kissing.
Yes, it's hot. Yes it's Megan Fox kissing another woman from Jennifer's Body. Yes, it's hot... owait, I already said that. Yes, I'm aware this makes me sound like a total lesbian. But this scene? UNF.

Yeah that is in all likelihood what they had planned, but considering how long before Wrestlemania Batista actually got injured, I think they definitely could have come up with something better than what they have done. Cena/Batista II would have been a bad Mania match anyway because it would be so painfully obvious that Cena was winning. If they were going to go with Cena/Batista III after fitting another match between them in somewhere, then that would have been epic.

Cena doesn't seem thrown in, imo, if you look back to how he got into this match. It started when he lost the title at NWO. He kept hounding Vickie to give him his rematch that's clearly in his contract. He said he'd follow her and Edge everywhere until he got his match, and he did. When he finally got his match, Edge got himself DQ'd.
Then Vickie brought in Show as the #1 contender, but Cena still wanted another shot because the last match didn't have a winner. This pissed Cena off even more so he exposed Show as Vickie's lover. Makes sense to me.

I feel like they are misusing him enormously. Let's face it, Cena is the most over guy in North America right now, let alone WWE. Even though he gets kind of stale at times, there is no reason this guy should be on the first hour of Raw playing third wheel with Big Show a priority above him. That is just ridiculous.
Then again, what else could they have done with him?

We're not saying it doesn't make sense. It makes plenty of sense how he got in there. It's just the fact that Cena is an afterthought while Big Show and Edge highlight the feud. Big Show and Edge is a stand alone feud which doesn't need any extra people except Vickie.

This
I'm hoping thatthey have the second match at either Summerslam or Survivor Series then have their final encounter as of sorts at Mania 26 with Cena going over and with a possible send off for Batista

I think what makes Cena feel "thrown in" is that the story would be pretty much the same without him. Fans don't really care about the Vickie-Edge-Big Show love triangle, and having in there to make fun it doesn't make them care any more. You could take Cena out of there and it wouldn't change things much - the fans would still give it a similar level of heat due to who's involved. Sure, Cena was the catalyst to the reveal of Vickie and Big Show, but that could have been any number of ways. Add in that everyone expects him to take the title at WM and it does feel like a rather predictable and uninspiring storyline to have Cena in.

It's just a shame that this year WWE seem to have said Cena will be doing this, and when it hasn't worked out they haven't bothered to give him something new tailored for him. They've done the same with Jericho basically, and it says a lot about WWE's creative division when they don't have back-up plans incase of injuries and the like, especially involving two of it's biggest and best stars.
Cena's involvement in the Edge/Show/Vickie angle has made it more watchable, cos Cena just says exactly what we (as viewers) are thinking, for the most part... But he's nothing more than a commentator on it and isn't needed at all really.
All that being said, I honestly can't think of anything else for him to do, other than facing 'Taker which was seemingly a lock for Michaels since the middle of last year if the leaked plans held any semblence of truth.

I dont see how Cena is being wasted. He is the person who created the problems between Vickie, Edge, show. With them being the main focus of the match and the winner getting Vickie, this is the perfect time to swerve the fans and possibly make everyone puke at the same time. Vickie could also join up with Cena in a business sense. Eitherway, for me this creates a lot of questions surrounding Cena. This is the most interest Ive had in him for years.
... And yes I know Cena is a marketing whore, but when you take out the brands top heel in Edge you have to replace him with someone else. Cena will still be a marketing whore, just for another fanbase now.
