Newly crowned Intercontinental Champion John “Bradshaw” Layfield finally has the opportunity to forge his own memorable moment at the 25th Anniversary of WrestleMania. But he will need to contend with the equally fervent championship aspirations of Rey Mysterio.
Much like the U.S. financial market’s continued recession, JBL’s stock has fluctuated substantially in the past several months. With the paid services of Shawn Michaels, Layfield came within inches of fastening the World Heavyweight Title around his waist and heading into WrestleMania as the defending World Champion. Close, but not enough.
Soon after, HBK emancipated himself from employment under the self-made millionaire but their paths would intersect again as JBL contended with The Showstopper for the right to challenge Undertaker at The Biggest Spectacle of Them All. Failure found JBL yet again.
The Longhorn Loudmouth, however, continued to spew his noxious word and promised not only participation at WrestleMania, but also a history-altering performance. Then, when all but bottomed out, JBL’s stock sky-rocketed when he went all in against CM Punk and stole the Intercontinental Title from the Straightedge Superstar. This win somewhat fulfilled the “wrestling god’s” prophetic claims, as he became the first man to ever hold the WWE, WWE Tag Team, United States, European, Hardcore and, of course, Intercontinental Championships.
But watching Layfield’s triumph closely was Mysterio, fresh off one of the most extraordinarily competitive and valiant displays of the year at No Way Out in the World Title Elimination Chamber Match. The Master of the 619, looking to reestablish his WrestleMania presence, issued a challenge to the Texas-born, New York City-tailored Superstar.
JBL agreed to the title match, but he may not have agreed to the ferocity that The Ultimate Underdog is certain to unleash when he competes on The Grandest Stage of Them All for the first time in three years. Due to injury, Mysterio missed action at the past two WrestleManias. In fact, the last time the masked Superstar danced on this unique stage was at WrestleMania 22 – the event where he did the impossible by capturing the World Title.
The five-and-a-half-foot Superstar left huge footsteps in the annals of WrestleMania in 2006 and he can certainly do it again if Mysterio were to claim the Intercontinental Championship – a title that has eluded his gloved clutches during his WWE career.
Which Superstar will have their big night in Houston, where the Intercontinental gold will be defended for the first time on The Grandest Stage of Them All since WrestleMania X8? Find out live at the 25th anniversary celebration of the squared circle’s greatest event, WrestleMania on April 5 beginning at 7 p.m. ET

I could too, but I can't help but wonder how good the match will actually be. A brawling bully against a high flying underdog doesn't sound like the recipe for a great match to me, but we'll see how it goes.
The IC title finally being defended at Wrestlemania again = win.

Echo'd. Considering that this is Mania and everyone tries a lot harder on that night, this could be a great match. I've always enjoyed matches between two guys with very different styles. I'm looking forward to this one.

Hopefully JBL wins though, because the IC title has been changing hands too much recently, and JBL should put over someone younger with their best years ahead of them when he loses it. Don't get me wrong, Rey has been good recently, but I think someone needs a decent reign for the IC title to mean anything.

They have fought before and pulled off some half decent matches. Hopefully the 'Mania atmosphere will kick them up a gear and make this JBL's best match.

I can't see how this is gonna go at all, JBL's been talking about making history at 'Mania so his retiring as IC champ makes some sense, but that's only if the rumours are true and means that a) you don't get the long reign you want, and b) we have to have another tournament involving IC title, less than a year (maybe even six months) shy of the number one contender tournament Punk won. If JBL is retiring, a Mysterio win is the only way to go... As long as the rumours that Mysterio is injured are greatly exaggerated. Haha!!

Re: Wrestlemania 25: JBL vs Rey Mysterio - Intercontinental Title
This is one of the matches i predicted in the WM thread. I think this should be great. We will see some good high flying with Mysterio and some good brawling with JBL. I keep hearing people bitching about Rey always facing big men.I have a question for them: Have you ever seen JBL and Mysterio in the ring together? They make a great pair and can produce a solid match. Many people think that this could be JBL's final match, I'm not so sure. JBL did say he was ready to retire, but wasn't sure when.I too, am not quite sure when. But i still think Rey should win this. He deserves it.

Re: Wrestlemania 25: JBL vs Rey Mysterio - Intercontinental Title
I to think this could be a very solid match. Sure both guys may be past their prime, but with there ring experience I expect some good things. Brawler vs. High Flyer may not sound great on paper, but I have faith in these two.
Re: Wrestlemania 25: JBL vs Rey Mysterio - Intercontinental Title
Going to be a solid match I'm betting. I've enjoyed all their matches in the past so I expect nothing different with this one plus the Wrestlemania atmosphere will add something to it. With reading what I've read regarding plans for JBL's historic event, I'm betting that he loses the Intercontinental title and then hopefully we can see a good Intercontinental title reign because the title has been changing hands too much and hopefully when/if Rey gets it, he keeps it for a good while.
