I feel bad for Cena

This guy.. I understand he's not Kurt Angle in the ring. I understand his character got stale.. but a lot of it has to do with WWE.. and with going too much into it, a lot of it isn't his fault.

In my opinion he's a great talent at least on the mic and if you turn back the clock he did have some decent matches in his past.. You can say people carried him but I didn't see it that way.

I'm really tired of all the bashing. It's endless. I'll be happy when WWE finally pulls the trigger on the heel turn so he can tell all the haters to go fuck themselves.

I hope the bashing continues and am totally fine with it. Somebody (I forget who...apologies) wrote about how hot this was making Cena's character.

He's a face but he's getting heal heat, and the company are not doing the obvious "let's turn him" thing. Now this is probably just because they not a single jot of an idea what to do with him, however, let's be generous. Let's presume somebody is seeing these reactions, hearing how it's making people on the net talk, reading about how black and white people are in their thoughts about the the guy, and thinking "this is actually getting people talking about the Championship"....how good is that.

And it is. Everybody has their opinions on the guy, nothing is crystal clear. He has his fans, but most hate him, and he's a face and he's your world champion. That sort of situation doesn't come round too often and I like to think that somebody up there is seeing the reactions and letting it play out.

As for his in ring skills. I'm all down with the talented, athletic guys getting the push, but Cena is not (and has never been) flat out horrible. He's a very average wrestler, yes, but he's not Henry or Snitsky or something that just flat out sucks up a show. Factor in his mic skills and the way he plays his character (and also how fucking hard the guy worked over the last year or two, anyone who's seen his schedule should be impressed, the guy has worked and travelled his butt off.

Well, I was talking more about the people who say he can't wrestle blah blah blah.. I'm tired of it. He's not fucking King Mabel you know..

If you want to say you hate him because you hate black and hip-hop culture then fine because I think that's why a lof of people do hate him and it also has to do with him changing his character when he turned face..

I want to see him turn heel because I think that's what he's personally best at and I'd like to see some of the promos he'd cut on the fans..

However, you do bring up a good point.. and I think enough people like him to the point where WWE may consider keeping him face for a while to see how this plays out..

The heat cena gets isn't exactly "bad heat" I don't think.. I don't know, I can't tell really... I think the internet heat he gets is "bad heat" but thankfully a lot of these idiots don't attend many shows..

(sorry, its long but he makes a pretty good point)

For months I have been advocating the idea of turning John Cena heel, I have written about it extensively, and that would seem like the next logical step to what’s been happening for a good while now. But after watching Wrestlemania, and Raw the following night, and mulling everything over in my head, I’ve come to a different conclusion. At this point they would be better off leaving things the way they are, and continue to get the diverse reactions from city to city. They have something going here, and it’s something unlike anything else I have ever seen in wrestling. I have never seen a wrestler that so many people liked, while at the same time just as many people hated. And these people have verbal wars in every arena across the country, and overseas. The pro-Cena people want to drown out the people booing, so they yell and scream even louder. While the anti-Cena people want to overtake the people cheering, so they boo louder, and start obscene chants. It’s a verbal volley back and forth between these people who love John Cena, and everything he represents, and the people that despise him, and loathe everything he represents. It gives each of his matches such a unique dynamic; it’s something amazing to watch. I can’t recall anything like it in my 21 years of watching wrestling. I have heard dueling crowd chants before at Ring of Honor shows, but this is on such a bigger and grander scale. They have people that pay to cheer John Cena, and people that pay to boo him. The bottom line is they are paying to see John Cena, and they are paying to attend a WWE show. It’s something that actually benefits the company more in the long run.

If they were to turn Cena heel, then the coolness would be gone. The people booing Cena wouldn’t feel like they were bucking the system anymore, and going against the company. It would no longer be cool to boo John Cena, and chances are a lot of those people would move onto the next “cool” thing. If you lose that, then you lose a big reason why this is working right now. The company still wants everyone to love Cena, and everyone to throw babies up the air when he comes out. That is not going to happen. The best thing for them to do is stop trying so hard to manipulate the crowd. Just sit back and let it happen. Don’t bring attention to it, don’t keep having the announcers talk about it every three seconds. They think that by talking about it so much, and making it seem lame that people are going to stop. They even had Jonathan Coachman get on the side of the fans on Raw, which I guess was their version of reverse psychology. Maybe someone would say, “Oh no, Coach likes what I like, and I don’t like Coach, so I can’t like the same things he likes. So I better stop booing Cena.” Sorry, it doesn’t work that way.

It’s actually comical to watch every week the ridiculous lengths they will go to. My advice is stop all that, and just sit back and watch it happen. Let the fans keep having their dueling chants. John Cena is a man, he’s not going to shrivel up and die if half an arena full of people boo him. He should be more than used to it by now. The end result in all of this is people are paying money to get involved in this, and that is why WWE needs to stop trying so hard, and just let things develop naturally. They need to keep doing what they’re doing with Cena. If they cheer him, great. If they boo him, that’s great too. As long as they paid money for the seat they’re sitting in, that’s all that matters in the grand scheme of things. Ride the wave until it runs out, and then make the changes that need to be made. Because right now they have something that they haven’t had in a long time and that’s genuine interest in one of their new characters. It just goes to show you that despite all the storylines, all the scripting, and the crowd manipulation, you can’t force people to care about someone. These things just happen.
Sums the situation up perfectly for me. I think this was what DK was referring to.

I had a sig, once.

I don't agree and I'l tell you why.. How does this guy know that the people are just "bucking the system" ?

Maybe the people really don't want to see Cena at all and would be happy if he was gone from the company entirely..

I guarantee the second you changed his character back to what it was as a heel there would be more interest in his promos.. That's just me.. Right now the people booing IMO just don't want to see him in his current state at all and that's unfortunate because he's talented.

I think he's at that ultimate heel point were people are paying trying to see him lose. Agreed HHH pushed that one level too far once but It's better to go one PPV too far than 5 too few.

Do people want their buttons pushed like that? JBL was champion forever and I don't think people ever bought it.. maybe some finally did but for the most part people seemed disinterested and you could tell by the PPV buyrates.. they didn't want to see him just lose the title, they wanted him gone from the picture completely..

With Cena I get the same feeling from the people who write here or there.. they want him gone. it wouldn't be enough for him to lose..

And again, I don't see the whole issue.. he's a talented guy.

Thanks for finding that KJ. That was what I was referring to.

Cena's had excellent matches with Eddie, Jericho, Undertaker, HHH that's for certain.

Anyone who thinks he was carried in all of those should watch his "I Quit" match with JBL last year. An absolute stormer that was close to being my match of the year (sure lots of short cuts, but which main eventer doesn't use them!). Or maybe they're suggesting that JBL is a "wrestling God" after all
