Jericho is obviously a big name and he is the current Intercontinental Champion. For awhile, the IC title seemed like a complete joke. The title holders weren't the best choices (Santino, etc) and it hasn't been defended at Mania in a long time.
With Jericho as champ, he is in a feud with one of the top guys in the WWE. That makes the IC title seem like a big thing, and hopefully it will continue like that. The IC title holder should be seen as one of the top guys and a serious threat. I think things are looking up for the title and the division.

Well aparantly that match against Umaga where he cheated to pick up the victory was a title defense. The title does need to be featured more. Jericho being involved in the Batista/ HBK angle instead of defending his title on a noticeably regular basis is fucking ridiculous. WWE should have just kept the title on Jeff Hardy while he was suspended. The way they've been using the title as of late, nobody would have noticed.
Yup Flip your right, the title seems like a big deal, when its never talked about, never defended. It might as well be used to hold up Jericho's pants, at least then it would be a useful belt...
Imo, give the belt to Kennedy. Have Kennedy vs Y2J, and HBK screws Jericho, to show him he's really not hurt. Then Kennedy continues to fued with Regal, and Regal does all he can to try and take the belt(sicking Umaga, Snitsky, etc) on him. Then, Kennedy finally defeats Regal at a PPV. Then move to a fued with Hardy...
It's being made a big deal, because there is an actual big name holding the title. It wasn't defended before, but it is making improvement by Jericho holding it. Jericho is in a big name feud and him holding the IC title makes the belt seem somewhat important.

Jeff Hardy held it for several months while being pushed in the main event. However, it was a terrible reign since he so rarely defended it. If the title was such a big deal, then why is Chris Jericho vs Shawn Michaels a non-title match? All it is these days is shinny decoration for a wrestler.

True. I believe that it can't be said that the IC title has improved in prestige recently if noone defends it, but will people stop saying Jericho LITERALLY hasn't defended it. He has done so at least twice. Once against Umaga, and if you remember the match against Big Show before Wrestlemania was an IC title match, as agreed on the Highlight Reel.
