As you all probably all know, WWE rolled into the UK this past week, and last Sunday night I went to see the superstars of Smackdown and ECW when they visited my home city of Cardiff for a house show. Here’s a little report and some pics for you all:
The Hardy Boyz vs. MVP & Mark Henry
I was so excited when the Hardy Boyz music came on. I never expected to see them tag together, I thought Jeff would probably battle Triple H at the top of the card some where.
This was a fun match, crowd was very much into this one. Henry and MVP played up to the crowd well. Hardyz picked up the victory thanks to a twist of fate and a senton bomb onto MVP.
Brian Bradock vs. The Great Khali
As soon as Bradock came out I knew he was going to get an ass whooping, whoever his opponent was going to be. This is the second time I’ve seen Khali, and I’m still in awe of how big he is. TV doesn’t do him justice. He’s a freak of nature.
As you’d expect, a quick squash match, with Khali picking up the victory.
United States Championship Shelton Benjamin vs. R-Truth
Good match, action kept going back and forth. The crowd was really behind R Truth. Lot’s of WHAT UP chants (which did get rather annoying after a while). Both guys seemed as though they were enjoying themselves throughout the match. A roll up win for Shelton, to regain the US Championship.
Maria & Michelle vs. Natalya & Maryse
Time for some Divas action. Maryse is drop dead gorgeous, and so is Maria. Another good match up, the divas all worked hard. Maria was a little sloppy, but overall the standard was good. Maryse and Natalya created some good heat from the crowd. Maria and Michelle picked up the win… how? I can’t remember!
Jack Swagger vs. Finlay
Jack Swagger seems like someone WWE will give a big push to in the future. Lots of rest holds in this one, and it didn’t seem to get flowing. Hornswoggle got involved a few times, as expected. Not a very entertaining match, but it didn’t stink.
After the match Finlay got some of the kids at ringside to come and dance in the ring with him and Hornswoggle. Nice touch there from Finlay.
WWE Tag Team Championship
Carlito & Primo vs. The Miz & John Morrison
I love Miz and Morrison, so I enjoyed this match. Primo and Carlito were worked over by Miz and Morrison for most of the match. Both Carlito and Primo looked good when they did get the offence. Somewhere down the road I believe these two could have a really good feud. A classic brother vs. brother feud is set up for them. Hopefully they don’t rush this. The Tag Champs picked up the victory (since when to titles change hands at house shows?!). Primo hit a frog splash to pick up the 1,2,3.
Kung Fu-knai vs. The Brian Kendrick
The crowd wasn’t into this one too much. It was a short one with Kendrick picking up the victory after hitting the sliced bread move.
WWE Championship Triple H vs. Vladimir Kozlov
This one was a technical match. Lots of wrestling holds, and reversals. Solid match, but there was nothing special to it. Triple H won via DQ, after Kozlov went crazy and brought a steel chair into the proceedings. Haitch then made a come back and hit the pedigree to send the crowd home happy.
The Undertaker vs. The Big Show
After the Triple H match I was expecting the show to be over, but thankfully I was wrong! Taker and Show were main evening in a no holds barred match.
Takers entrance always gives me chills. It’s epic.
Taker won this match with his triangle choke hold. It wasn;t a long match, 10mins tops, but it sent the crowd home happy, as they'd seen pretty much everyone they'd wanted to see.
Overall it was a pretty good event. All the matches were solid, and apart from two, the crowd were well into the event. Probably the liveliest crowd for a while here in Cardiff. This was the 3rd time in a row that I’ve seen a Smackdown event, so come April I think I’ll show some love for Raw, when they come over for their Wrestlemania Revenge Tour.
