It all comes around....

.... it comes in cycles, the seasons bring changes.

What cycle are we in (pro-wrestling wise) right now. WWE is the major player granted. But is TNA on the up or is it making the same old mistakes.

TNA definitly tries to recycle old wrestling ideology. A couple of recent examples include the current storyline revolving around the "War" of new talent being brought in that is elevated on name alone rather than wrestling talent (a la nWo). However it also uses one of Vince's tricks too (pulling under-utilised mid-card talent such as rhino, christian and the dudleys). So the question for you, my esteemed wrestling friends, is this....

Is TNA a credible opponent to WWE now? Has it found the balance between Stage name, talent and showmanship to properly challenge as an alternative main-stream brand, or conversley has WWE's over-ambitious attempts to push new stars (that it has tried to create, poorly) added to the fact that these two companies are closer than ever before?

Or has the fact that there are two decent brands competing once again lead to the increase of ratings that both brands are currently profiting from?

Well Vince has a storied history of performing better when under pressure to, be it in order to destroy the former territories or to wipeout a rival's ratings lead, so we can only hope that TNA do succeed in becoming a serious rival in the future. The quicker the better.

Personally, I would prefer to watch the TNA product if I could watch either (though in truth I don't currently watch either!!) since it is closer to my ideal of what a wrestling show should be.

One thing that Jericho touched on in the recent Powerslam interview was about the guys coming through from OVW. They are nowhere near ready for the spots they are being placed in. When Jericho himself, Benoit, Guerrero all the talents that came to the WWE in the latter part of the last decade arrive there they had wrestled all over the world. Everywhere. Mexico, Europe, Japan all over. They knew exactly how to play a crowd, what to do if they mess up, how to wrestle longer matches. These were all guys that were ready to step up to the biggest league of all. Now....we get guys that have no idea how to pace a 5 minute match, who rely 100% on what they are told to do in a formulaic WWE match, outside of that, they are clueless. That, next to the whole issue involving WWE Creative (or lack of it) are the major contributory reasons to my no longer watching.

Therefore, it's to be hoped that....with the obvious trading of talent when competition is good and with Vince's eye being more focused on attracting viewers rather than just being the most childish pensioner in the world every week, everything would improve all round. We may then even get a decent post from me....anything could happen in this crazy utopian world.

Competition is good for business no doubt. But TNA is not nearly at being where WCW was when the war started. First off they need a better time slot...second of all they need to be available to most markets. I know I dont get to watch them.

Plus they need bigger stars. Sure their guys are good I guess, but their name are not. My friend who dont really watch wrestling know who Carlito is, or Triple H or Ric Flair. But no1 knows who AJ stylez is even tho he is amazing.

Plus their show look like they are taped in high scool gym. they need to start shows in arenas. Maybe they should hand out free tickets to fill the place up, so it looks like something big.
