Heres the best thing about Edges first world title reign. Despite Edge only holding the title for three weeks, in those three weeks he got raw some of it's highest ratings in the last few years. Now thats amazing considering that he only held the title for three weeks. So, there must of been something that the fans took to. Now lets look at what it might of been that got the ratings up. There was Edges Title win at new years revolution, were John Cena had just defended his title in the elimination chamber.Battered, bruised and bloodied up the defensless John cena was laid in the middle of the ring looking dead. As everyone was watching live on pay-per-view thinking that it was going to go off air, the chairmans Vince Mcmahons music hits. People now were wondering what was going on, Vince took the time to announce that John cena after his grueling match would defend the wwe title again as the one and only......EDGE was cashing in his money in the bank contract.
And from there Edge went and kicked John Cena's ass and was the new....wwe champion.
And from there it was your live sex celebrations, great promos, brawls etc.
Then at the Rumble, Cena won the title back of Edge.
But thats amazing to have the highest ratings in them last few years.
But hey, doesn't it remind you of the good old days of the attitude era.
What made the attitude era so succesful was it's, sexual references, violence, gimmicks, storylines, true wrestling, championship reigns and many more.
Now a lot of them things in that list were things that edge was so great at during his three week reign as champion.
So is this the waking call that wwe need, you know the highest ratings in years accomplished in three weeks and all through doing them simple things think about it vince.

everyone knows why ratings were so high. cena didnt have the belt. there arent really any stars right now in the company that could carry another attitude era. they are either getting old and bland or just still really green. if it were to happen.. they need to seek out and push another up n comer like the rock. someone that, when they talk, it puts you on the edge of your seat and you dont blink until they leave the ring.

that and the upper card is always a clusterfuck of the same people over and over again. you cant really have that "shock factor" the attitude era had when watching the wwe is like watching reruns every week. thats just how this guy sees the shows working right now.

But the shows that vince is putting on for his fans at the moment are a disgrace.
There is barely any good wrestlers!
full stop if vince doesnt change his shows then they are gradually going to lose more and more of it's fans.
But you say that we need to get another Rock, well there are that many wrestlers in the company and in developement terrotories that dont get used, there is probably another rock out there but because wwe dont look into this stuff as much as the fans dream about it then unfortuneltly there wont be another rock or any more big talents like that again.

Anyways, I think the initial shock factor of the first MITB being cashed in plus Edge/Lita/sex combo got the high ratings. I suppose people wanted to see what Cena was going to do to get it back too.

And no, this was by no way anything similiar to the Attitude era. Wrestling just isn't that popular anymore. Why it isn't as popular anymore can clearly be debated.

Yes, before the sex celebration when was the last time you saw out like that live on wwe tele?
I picked this from a few years back because it was something thats interesting and is actually worth talking about unlike some threads that go on about "what will this new superstars attire be?".
And it showed how the things that edge did in them three weeks getting highest ratings in the last few years were related to what got ratings high back in the attitude era.
I wasn't comparing them three weeks to the attitude era but they did the typical things expected from that era.
And if wwe went back to them roots now and improved in certain areas then they could be looking at the start of something.

So basically WWE should turn itself into a porno and ratings will go through the roof is what you're saying?

Back at the beginning of 2006 (when this was much more relevant) the ratings were much higher to begin with anyways. They were in the 4's I believe instead of the low to mid 3's that they are currently doing. So a jump to a 5.2 for one segment (although it was a great achievement for Edge and even the WWE) was not something of epic proportions.

No, I am not saying that wwe should become a porno all i said was that they need to do more things that will shock people and make people interested.
A lot of stuff that wwe does it is get hot girls into the company so More men will come to the shows and watch the tele more.
But this aint playboy, we dont just want pretty woman we want women who are good wrestlers, managers commentators etc.
And it wasnt for like the rise in ratings was for 1 night. Ok, it's highest was when the belt was around Edge's waist but ratings were still good for a while after that but then slowly degraded away.
