gimmick matches

ok so i know some of u read my thread about triple h being an awesome wrestler in 2000 (in terms of wrestling ability) and well the reason i asked that is because of the gimmick matches. Do gimmick matches count as a part of a wrestler's wrestling ability? for example, if i see a great street fight such as triple h vs foley, after watching the match will i be able to say that triple h is a good wrestler? my main rerason for wanting to kno is because i have a backyard fed where this guy puts on awesome hardcore matches and me and my friends debate wether or not that makes him an awesome wrestler

My feelings exactly.

Sandman can have a great hardcore match, i doubt many consider him a great wrestler.

well if that's the case, then why do people praise triple h's wrestling skills from 2000 so much? if u look at his ppv matches, most of them were gimmick matches

Re: gimmick matches

Aside from the Streetfight and the Last Man Standing match those aren't really garbage matches though. Most of the "hardcore" matches I've seen don't involve good wrestling mostly just a bunch of garbage wrestling a joke title. Hardcore wrestling was and still is one of the biggest jokes in Professional Wrestling. Basically if you CAN'T put on a good hardcore match you should probably get out of the ring. It only takes two half wit morons to make a good hardcore match.

Re: gimmick matches

Triple H is a very versatile wrestler, and can go in both straight up wrestling matches, or gimmick bouts.

As far as Sandman goes...if anyone watched his last few weeks on Raw trying to 'wrestle'...that should answer your question. The guy can swing a chair, but fucked if he can execute a bodyslam.

Gimmick matches tell stories, and are usually used to end feuds. Going by that logic, a good wrestler is one who can get the crowd involved in a regular match, and then ups their game in a gimmick match, which, in turn, excites the fans more, and tells a good end to the story.

Anyone can swing a chair, but to tell a story with it is a different thing all together.
