JBL returns to the ring!

JBL returned to the ring this past weekend for Capital Punishment II in Richmond.

I have no idea how this whole thing got arranged, but it featured stars from WWE, TNA and the indies.

I presume because the show was designed to raise money for an autism charity ($20,000 total), WWE gave it the OK.

Joey Matthews, now with OVW and Derby City Wrestling, beat AJ Styles using the ropes in the opener. AJ won a battle royal, David Young & Daffney beat Gail Kim & Jake Manning, Senshi pinned Ruckus in a good match, D-Lo Brown beat Abyss via DQ when Abyss gave referee Brian Hebner an unprotected chairshot to the head (this business should be burned), and, in the main event, Sgt. Slaughter & Steiners & TJ & Kirby Mack & Dustin Rhodes beat JBL & Steve Corino & CW Anderson & Homicide & Hernandez & Elix Skipper in a bloodless War Games when Slaughter made JBL submit to the camel clutch. The more I read about this the more it fascinates me that it occurred. Show drew 1,000 and was said to be OK. They didn't announce a main event in advance, which surely hurt sales.

There's been a lot of talk lately about him making a return back to the ring, and I thought it was going to happen last Friday night on Smackdown... maybe that's just set the seeds for a return. I wouldn't mind seeing him back in the ring, but I also like him commentating.

The WWE seem to be building up for a JBL/Rey rematch, I would sure miss him on commentary though as he's the best the industry has got at the moment

I prefer him on commentary.

If he is coming back for a one off feud, it'd be much better with someone other than Rey Rey. They don't really gel too well for me.

Also, you could tell under that shirt last week that he needs to lose a lot of "poundage" before he ever considers taking that bad boy off completely.

With Ron Simmons wrestling these past two weeks (Heat and Raw) maybe an APA return? Or am I reaching a bit?

I doubt an APA return would work. JBL is a rich new yorker. APA were beer drinking & beating up people.

It does look like a APA reunion, but Simmons was a slow older man out there. I dont think it would be very nostalgic
