The New ECW is better then the Original

I know there's a few people, like myself, that love the new ECW.. What I'd like to know, is why do some people hate it?

I havn't posted on this forum much, but at every place I've went to, people are always complaining on how "Mid Carders" don't get there due.. And now that they do on ECW, people are still complaining..

I remember back in the day, when the old ECW was around.. I hated it.. All the matches were really slow, and there were atleast 10 botches each show, with the exception of some wrestlers like Jerry Lynn and Tommy Dreamer.. Other then that, I believe that it was 100% overrated, and it would have never got as big as it did if it wasn't for people falling off of 50 ft roofs, and going through flaming tables..

Now with the new ECW, they don't need crazy gimmick matches, they just wrestle.. Don't get me wrong, I hate the fact that people like Snitsky, Boogeyman and etc are or were getting a push, but that doesn't take away from what good the show is bringing to young wrestlers like CM Punk, Morrision, and the Miz.. Let me break it down for all three of them really quick..

Morrison aka Johnny Nitro - What the hell was he doing on Raw? I mean, he was in the IC Title hunt for quite sometime, but other then that, he did nothing.. The kid has all the in ring tools to make it big in the WWE, he just lacked presenttation, and mic skills.. Now, I think his mic skills have slighltly improved, not really Main Event Leval, but neither was Lashley's.. Nitro though, unlike Lashley has a ton of charisma, in which we found out about when he went to ECW, and he can presentate himself much better then Lashley

Cm Punk - Where would he be right now if it wasn't for the ECW Fans in the Hammerstein Ball Room? He'd probably be jobbing on Sunday Night Heat.. Most of us know this guy is pure gold all around, and he wouldn't be half as big as he is if he went to Raw or Smackdown.. He'd probably have a gay gimmick, like a physical trainer or something..

The Miz - I always liked this guy, but if you ask me, he's proven himself on ECW.. The guy can wrestle, but still to this day, wrestlers in the Smackdown! locker room don't see anything in him because he's a former Reality TV Star.. Regardless, he's proven himself on ECW as a future top Mid Card Champion/Wrestler..

Now, I'm going to go to the argument of "It's just not the original ECW".. Well personally, I'm happy it isn't, but everyone should have known it wasn't going to be.. Most of the ECW originals were VERY overrated, and could only perform in matches where weapons were allowed.. See, I would much rather watch wrestlers like Kevin Thorn, Elijah Burke, and Marcus Cor Von who can perform in any type of match, over guys like New Jack, The Sandman, and Sabu who could only perform in gimmick matches.. Remember the New Breed vs. Originals Extreme Rules match? Honestly, that was just as good as any match the original ECW had..

Overall, I honestly think that most people are just being critics, instead of wrestling fans anymore.. The new ECW presents much more then the original ECW did, and really, there's really nothing wrong with the new ECW.

Original ECW = EXTREME Championship wrestling.

The Extreme part means hardcore.

Hardcore wrestling was something different.

Hence why it was so popular.


This attaempt at ECW is merly WWE third show in place of Velocity. Take out Tommy Dreamer & Joey Styles & you have no ECW at all.

Thats why people hate it. Vince could easily have made a new show to build up his terrible wrestlers but instead he is degrading the ECW name.

Booker T said if he was sent to ECW he would quit the company. Thats how bad it is.

This show is Velocity.

Not ECW (whatever Vinny Mac says).

And no, not even remotely close to being as fine as the original ECW. This is like comparing Jay with Slim. One is clearly better than the other (awaits their grief!!)

I agree with the above. ECW had a certain "allure" to it that offered something the other wrestling companies didn't. Each match was fought under "Extreme Rules", and the common theme between the wrestlers was that they just wanted to fight and entertain the audience. You have wrestlers on the brand now that just don't exude that. Take the champion John Morrison. Do you think he would have fit in ECW back in 1998? Heck no.

The fans were SO passionate about the product back then. Do you remember how loud the "ECW! ECW!" chants were during every match, no matter who was in the ring? That passion is gone now with the current product. It's just a glorified "HEAT" now. Most of the wrestlers on the ECW brand wouldn't make it on RAW or Smackdown! as they would be buried beneath all the "popular" wrestlers.

Also, Vince always seems to have thought that all ECW had was hardcore/extreme action, when this is totally untrue.

ECW was also a haven for watching Japanese, Mexican and mat based wrestling that (at the time) was not available to a lot of us anywhere except in those countries themselves. Something Bischoff spotted and exploited too.

ECW wasn't just about the chair swinging, barbed wire brawl for alls everyone seems to remember.


A lot of people seem to forget some of the classic matches like Mysterio/Psychosis and Guerrero/Malenko and then throw people like Jericho, Taz and Shane Douglas and ECW appealed to just about anyone.


Its a crime them calling it ECW as its not even close.

The New ECW is flat out horrible. The original ECW created stars, like Taz, Dreamer, Raven, Sandman, Public Enemy, Eliminators, Dudleys, Stevie Richards, "The Quintessential Stud Muffin" Joel Getner, "The Sexiest Man On Earth" Jason;

The original ECW resurrected careers, like Bam Bam Bigelow, Shane Douglas, Chris Candido, Terry Funk, Brian Lee, even Steve Austin. These people were all in the toilet when ECW took them and nurtured them back into being stars.

The original ECW gave breaks to people who could not get a job in WWE or WCW, like Rey Mysterio, Mick Foley, Chris Benoit, Dean Malenko, and Eddie Guerrero. Not to mention Juventud Guerrera, and countless others.

The original ECW had great storylines written by the best booker of his time, Paul Heyman, who single handedly revolutionized the industry.

Heyman's themeology was taken smartly by Vince, as Bill Banks admitted on FOREVER HARDCORE, and made Vince a billionaire.

Heyman's talent was stolen smartly by Bischoff, who used them to keep Nitro fresh and different, especially all the cruisers they stole from ECW. Oh yeah, while I'm at it, other characters include Mikey Whipwreck, Beulah McGillicutty, the FBI, Kimona Wanaleia, Joey Styles, and other people who worked elsewhere but Heyman gave huge breaks to include Tajiri, Super Crazy, New Jack (you think Cornette, a known racist, would have ever turned him babyface?), Spike the Giant Killer, Al Snow's sidekick "Head" (which saved Al's career), and Jim Mitchell.

ECW was so revolutionary, the tv shows were amazing ,the emotion was sky high, and the pied piper Paul Heyman lead his company with no resources, just his own booking for seven years in the single most hyper competitive enviornment in wrestling history.

This piss poor half-a-highlight show called WWE's version of ECW ain't worth crap.

Vince was hesitant to loan his roster members, so Paul told him that whoever he gave him, he would raise their profile to the extent that they would be an ECW main eventer and be returned to WWF at the end of the loan as a bona fide character for him to use.

So Vince let him have Leif Cassidy(!) and Heyman (with Snow) created a terrific little mid card character out of a guy that was so dead in WWF they could do nothing for him.
