| WWE in Mexico/ Rey Mysterio update From f4wonline.com Rey Mysterio made his return to action during the WWE tour of Mexico this week. They drew about 8,700, or a three-quarter-full house, with Super Crazy over Daivari, Lance Cade & Trevor Murdoch over Paul London & Brian Kendrick to retain the Raw Tag Titles, Mickie James over Melina, Jeff Hardy over Snitsky with the senton bomb, Carlito over Santino, and Rey Jr. & John Cena & Lashley over Umaga & Randy Orton & King Booker. Rey hit a 619 to start the comeback, then it broke down into a six-way and Cena ended up pinning Booker with the FU. Rey (apparently) looked "fine". He probably won't be a regular in the ring for at least another few weeks, and the idea here, besides trying to sell tickets, was to put him in a six-man match so that he could be hidden and protected while he experimented to see how well his knee would hold up. His doctor had strongly advised him against ever wrestling again but you know wrestlers don't listen to their doctors! WWE in Mexicali on July 5th, which we don't have an attendance for other than it was not good at all, saw Jeff Hardy beat Regal, Snitsky beat Super Crazy (they couldn't give the Mexican someone he could beat!), Val Venis beat Daivari (Venis, a former CMLL Heavyweight Champion as Steele, either hurt his knee or fake hurt his knee leading to the finish, though you'd think it was legit because that's an awfully weird finish to fake blow out your knee and go immediately to your victory), Mickie & Maria beat Melina & Jillian Hall, Lashley beat Carlito, Cade & Murdoch beat London & Kendrick, Booker beat Santino, and Cena beat Orton. They also had Rey come out and say hello, and Umaga came out to kill him and got the 619 for his troubles. Amazingly, they did not lay Rey out. July 6th at Palacio de los Deportes in Mexico City before approximately 16,000 (nowhere near a sellout, but still a good crowd). They expected such a huge walk-up that in order to take care of this show and a baseball game next door, the city hired SIX HUNDRED AND FORTY SEVEN cops. They were running two nights straight in the same building so it's no surprise that the second night would be bigger. Lashley beat Carlito in the opener, Murdoch & Cade beat London & Kendrick (apparently WWE didn't care about running the same matches four straight nights despite the fact that the magazines would be doing huge amounts of coverage for this tour), Venis beat Daivari (so maybe he didn't hurt his knee after all, which makes the finish from the night before even more perplexing), Snitsky pinned Crazy again (and nobody seemed to care one bit about Crazy, so I guess if you don't get a push on Raw you're not going to be over in Mexico, even if you're Mexican), Mickie & Maria beat Jillian & Melina, Umaga beat Santino in four minutes (Santino was HATED), Jeff Hardy & Rey Jr. beat Regal & Booker with the senton/springboard legdrop double pin. Rey was said to look small, flabby and slow, and to have lost a lot of muscle mass. Make of that what you will. Main was Cena beating Orton with the FU. Reporters from Mexico City and Mexicali both said this was the longest, best and most heated match on the show and nothing else came close. I guess it's all about star-power. Surprisingly, night two of WWE at Palacio de Los Deportes only did 14,000 fans. Quick results saw Carlito beat Daivari, William Regal beat Val Venis, Super Crazy beat Santino (he's doomed), Lance Cade & Trevor Murdoch beat Spanky & Paul London for the fourth straight show, Jillian won the Divas beauty contest believe it or not, over Maria, Jillian Hall, Melina and Mickie. Afterwards, she decided to reward us with a song and was promptly beaten up by the rest of the girls. Jeff Hardy beat Snitsky, Cena & Lashley & Rey beat Umaga & Orton & Booker in a match where ring intros alone took seventeen minutes. Well, you buy the ticket for the show. Cena pinned Booker with the FU to win. The writers in Mexico noted that WWE styles was completely different from lucha with less holds, no counter-holds, no dives and little movement using the ropes, with the exception, of course, of Rey Misterio, who did some lucha "perfectly". One article claimed the main event of the final night was "little fun" and even boring in spots. | |||||||||||||||
