It's an insane business

It seems like so many guys have passed away (not just in WWE) since I started really watching wrestling seriously, just over ten years back.

It seems like loads, so I just ran a check on how many had passed away in my time watching before the age of 50 and came up with 33 names!! I'm sure even then I've probably missed a few that I wasn't a big fan of or didn't know a lot about.

Of course not all of them are wrestling related (as in steroids, lifestyle etc) but nearly all are.

The guys in the TnA and WWE locker rooms must be so fearful that they will be the next one, I think you could see that in some of their eyes as they were saying their tributes.

The 33 I looked up were -

("Rad Radford") Louie Spicolli (27)
"Love Machine" Art Barr (28)
Crash Holly (32)
Owen Hart (33)
"Bodydonna" Chris Candido (33)
"West Texas Redneck" Bobby Duncum Jr (34)
Yokazuna (34)
"Loose Cannon" Brian Pillman (35)
"Pitbull #2" Anthony Durante (36)
The Wall/ Malice (36)
Eddie Guerrero (38)
"British Bulldog" Davey Boy Smith (39)
"Public Enemy's" Johnny Grunge (39)
Terry "Bam Bam" Gordy (40)
Rhonda Singh/ Bertha Faye (40)
Chris Benoit (40)
"Ravishing" Rick Rude (41)
Bruiser Brody (42)
Miss Elizabeth (42)
Big Bossman (42)
Earthquake (42)
Mike Awesome (42)
Nancy Benoit/ Woman (43)
"Mr Perfect" Curt Hennig (44)
Bam Bam Bigelow (45)
Junkyard Dog (45)
Hercules (45)
Andre The Giant (46)
Big John Studd (46)
"Gentleman" Chris Adams (46)
"Road Warrior" Hawk (46)
"Public Enemy's" Rocco Rock (49)
"Sensational" Sherri Martel (49)

It's like I can't watch a PPV now from my back catalogue without thinking all the way through "he's dead", "he's dead", "she's dead", "he's dead".....

God, why I oughta (shakes fist violently, but not too violently)

Crash, I could be wrong, but I think he was called AWOL when he was in Misfits in Action (along with Chavo, Hugh and Lash) but became The Wall. Or was he The Wall first when he was with Berlyn (Alex Wright)? I can't remember, I do however know he is dead.

I would be hesitant to get into the business. Horrific rate of deaths.

Re: It's an insane business

He was The Wall first, then became AWOL when he joined MIA. He was named this, and really this is most ha-ha-halarious, because when you say AWOL, it sounds like A WALL. And people say those WCW guys weren't clever!

Re: It's an insane business

Yeah this Benoit death really set a nerve with me. People may say he had a dark side, but the fact of the matter was the constant abuse to his body from wrestling, pills and roids totally destroyed what used to be a normal man it seems. Granted, now stuff is coming out about his shady past, but clearly the drugs didnt help matters.

The problem is these guys thinking they need this shit to get by. I think back to Jeff Hardy alot. Jeff Hardys only problem is his lack of promo skills on the main event level. Besides that he has it all. Decent size, sweet moves and the charisma to light up a crowd with some "Holy Shits". He was a guy that was so obviously messed up on drugs a few years back that he looked to be next on the list. To Vince's credit, he offered rehab to Jeff. Jeff refused and Vince released him.

Now Jeff is back and is clearly clean. Drug and alchohol abusers are pretty easy to spot if you see it enough. Its also easy to tell when they are cleaned up. Jeff is clean in my eyes. He has that life back in his eyes.

This goes to show that wrestling needs more guys that can do it on the up and up like CM Punk and such. You don't have to be straight edge, but perhaps its a little "Monkey See, Monkey Do" in the WWE's "Superstar Personal Wellness Program"
