For example, I had the opportunity of watching some of the build for this years Mania and it stuck me how "old school" the build for the two major belts was. In both cases they were classic "old school" booking. Faces falling out with each other, largely in tag matches, and ultimately losing their trust in each other leading to the big blow off. Of course, the Lashley - Umaga "thing" was somewhat different and very WWElike since it involved lots of outside/non wrestling writing involving a figure head like Trump. Kane-Khali was also booked in an old school way too. Two big behemoths largely kept away from touching each other before the match. I thought the build was very refreshing compared to what I had been seeing when I stopped watching regularly. However, is this something you like to see? Or do you prefer the Russo crash TV booking style (perhaps more so when he did it particularly well in 1998/99)? Personally I like the old school booking with more of the longer style storylines thrown in the mix (e.g the Jericho/Michaels, Angle/Steph/Hunter and Jericho/Trish feuds) which all had long builds attached. | |
