JR's Superstar Of The Week

JR's Superstar Of The Week will be posted here weekly. Please post your opinions on his decisions here:

Week ending June 16th: Ric Flair

He is superstar of the week cause he returned??

One of the trademarks of Meltzer's dirt sheet is his controversial star-rating system for matches. In order to receive a five star rating send a check or money order payable to Dave Meltzer. Normal ROH discount applies. Mitsuharu Misawa is noted for giving a remarkable 85% of his annual earnings to Meltzer.

It is a pretty odd choice, as great as the Nature Boy is, he didn't do much this week.

There are two stand-out options for me this week. And I'm really surprised JR didn't have the sense to give it to HBK for making his must more impressive return, and Triple H being the other potential candidate.

Hell, even Cena would have been a pretty good option as I found his performance pretty solid last week on RAW, and in Cena's books that's a remarkable performance.

Weak selection from JR in my opinion...:-/

lmao.

Ric Flair is an odd choice fo' sure. I mean.. he came and talked some smack for Mick Foley. That doesn't really include you in the top 10 IMO.

HBK would of definatly been a better choice.

J.R.'s Superstar of the Week - D-Generation X
By Jim Ross
June 22, 2006

It’s time again for yours truly to award another coveted, much anticipated, winner take all, the-winner-deserves-a-parade-and-a-street-named-after-him RAW Superstar of the Week!

After consulting with the crack staff, and Lord knows we saw plenty of “cracks” this week on RAW, I was instructed I could not present this honor for distinguished achievement to an inanimate object. If I could, you could bet your last bottle of BBQ Sauce that green slime, small pieces of fabric impersonating bras and panties, leopard print thongs, and perhaps even black “pleather” overcoats would definitely be in the hunt. But, alas, that isn’t the case so this award will go to a living, breathing human being; a RAW Superstar of my sole discretion on a weekly basis until I P.O. the wrong people and my ramblings take another sabbatical.

Whew….. I’m happy we got that cleared up.

Seriously, I was damned impressed with the toughness displayed by John Cena. ECW’s Sabu (whose surprise attack really wasn’t that big a surprise when you stop and think about it and how cult leader Heyman operates) is a risk-taking machine with no regard for his own scared carcass and even less for his opposition. Sabu’s leap from the top rope and driving John Cena through our announce table mere feet from where the King and I were standing was an amazing piece of business. What was equally as amazing was Cena getting to his feet on his own power and actually walking, o.k. staggering a little, back to the locker room instead of being assisted by EMTs. Cena is legitimately tougher than a $3 steak, but most college football O-linemen, especially centers, are. When one toils in the pits banging heads with large defensive tackles, it makes an individual tough or you become an observer and not a player. John Cena is a player. Cena is such a good “player” that he could probably be in the hunt to win this award virtually every week. But not this week.

This week’s winner as a result of an amazing television rating is DX. RAW outdistanced the seventh game of the Stanley Cup Playoffs which means that WWE sort of kicked the NHL’s ass Monday night. The last segment of the broadcast saw almost 4.7 million homes tuned into Monday Night RAW which is stronger than an acre of garlic. The anticipation, and we wrestling fans love to anticipate things, for the official DX Reunion popped a number as is said in the TV biz. Almost 700,000 NEW households tuned into to RAW the last quarter hour in anticipation of the DX reunion. That’s truly amazing growth and living proof that the TV viewer was laying in wait for the return of the controversial duo of Triple H and HBK. This situation had been building in various forms for several weeks which proves the old wrestling adage if you build it long enough “they” (the fans) will come. Old school still has a pulse.

Oh, and by the way, Vengeance this Sunday is in the home of the old Mid Atlantic Wrestling and could very well be a sleeper when it comes to pay-per-views this year. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it. Let’s see if the Superstars can backup my prediction/boast this Sunday night in Charlotte.

BOOMER SOONER!

J.R.

Yea this is late cause I hadn't noticed it up on WWE.com until now but anyway...Seems like the logical choice this week...Opinions?

J.R.'s Superstar of the Week - Edge
By Jim Ross
June 29, 2006

“…and the skies opened up and it rained down upon thee, thy richest man in sports-entertainment a brown, chunk-filled storm unlike any we had ever experienced…. that was filled with rich, Kansas corn and other partially digested delights the likes no one, even the old timers, had ever seen before”…..by the unknown prophet.

(And for the record Lawler laughed more than the BBQ loving, black hat wearing Okie at the King’s side.)

Indeed for DX, payback will be hell, and no one knows if it will be slow and painful or quick and sudden for the dynamic duo. Who will be enlisted to become a McMahon-fueled militia to carry out the charge to the Chairman in retaliation for the utter humiliation and total embarrassment on the WWE’s flagship broadcast seen worldwide?

It was quite the interesting Monday Night RAW. I think I can safely say this ain’t your granddaddy’s ‘rasslin show any longer and it hasn’t been for a while now. But as Harvey Fierstein once said, “Is that so wrong?!”

So who is the superstar of the week from RAW? Be patient, we’re getting there.

Mickie James’ impressive victory over a rusty Trish Stratus put “Psycho Girl” in the hunt. Just thinking out loud, but if Mickie was as obsessed with Danica Patrick as Mickie once was with Trish don’t you think Mickie would give new meaning to the term “road rage”? Honorable mention this week goes to the Women’s Champion.

New Intercontinental Champion Johnny Nitro’s fur coat, nice wardrobe selection by the way, in JUNE, was in consideration, but we established last week no inanimate objects could win this prestigious award. Rumors say Nitro has a little PETA problem.

Umaga’s destruction of some of the WWE’s most timeless characters, i.e. Doink, Kim Chee and Kamala over a 24 hour period has to mean something. Doesn’t it?

Ric Flair’s statement directed to Mick Foley was impassioned. I loved it. I smell money. (“I see bloody people.”)

The Lilian Garcia/Big Vis/Charlie Haas “Love Triangle” is intriguing. Perhaps Lilian should have a child named Shiloh and we can put all three of the involved parties on the Maury Povich Show and do the DNA test thing and find out “who’s my baby’s daddy?!”

The DX spoof of the McMahon men folk was laugh out loud funny. For the record, I’m certainly not speaking on a personal level as I choose to stay on RAW for at least another few weeks until I am eligible for the gold watch and customary going away dinner at the Cracker Barrel. I know this; I will never eat another Baby Ruth for as long as I live. O.K. maybe I will just take a sabbatical from them for a few days but there was some “stank” in the air in Fayette-nam on Monday night. Seeing all that corn mixed in with the obvious other elements was worse than Granny’s “sour belches”.

The Imposter Kane got kicked to the curb, or actually out the back door, but for some reason I don’t think we have seen the last him. Just warning you.

Randy Orton had a fine Vengeance and RAW, but his leering at Hulk’s daughter disqualified young, master Orton. Will Orton never learn? Doesn’t Randall watch VH 1’s Hogan Knows Best like the rest of us?

Cena and RVD beat the living hell out of each other just locking up. The rest of their spirited WWE Championship match was excellent from where I was sitting. It was damn sure physical and unorthodox. Not that there is anything wrong with that, AND not one red card!

Which brings us to this week’s winner of the RAW wrestler, oops, sorry, Superstar of the Week ………the young man from Ontario formerly known as Adam Copeland, or so it says in his book, the Rated R Superstar, EDGE! Why you ask? How could this be J.R. since Edge did not have a match on RAW? First of all, it’s my award, and I will give to whomever I damn well please, and I say that Edge’s impact on RAW verbally and physically created two of the most memorable moments on the entire broadcast. Plus he encouraged the lovely Lita to select that top she almost wore. So there you have it sports fans, the bitter young man who feels like he should be WWE Champ is our Superstar of the Week and apparently Edge and Lita will be receiving lovely parting gifts because it certainly appeared Edge is contemplating leaving RAW. Or is he? Stay tuned.

In the mean time eat more “Q”.

BOOMER SOONER!

J.R.

-----------------------------------

Yea he'd have pretty much been my choice taking the impact he's made this week into account...
