Is it just me, or has it seemed WAY too long since we last saw the Undertaker as a heel?
He started his career out as such, became face, went back to a heel in the late 90's...the more that I think about it, it seems as though more of his success has been attained when you have the crowd against him.
With an impending Wrestlemania program with Batista...since we all know there is NO way Kennedy is going over him at the Rumble...the last thing I want to see is a rivalry based on "respect". Sure, the "title vs. streak" will be pushed on us, but I'd personally love to see the return of the evil Taker. A revamped, sadistic take on his character.
While it doesn't make much sense with the abundence of heels on Smackdown, WWE has already reunited the Brothers of Destruction, and I'd much rather see the Undertaker go back to his ways as a heel than Kane (again). You have a few immediate things to work with...Taker/Kane, Taker/Batista, and with some roster shake-ups guaranteed after Wrestlemania, I think Smackdown will end up losing Kennedy to RAW in exchange for an uppercard face.
I was really looking forward to him going back to his dark side gimmick and was really dissapointed with the way they did it.
I really wish they would turn him heel and let him do some of the stuff he did back in the Corporate Ministry days. That was The Undertaker at his best if you ask me.
A heel turn is long overdue.

I kid..
I dunno. Its hard sometimes to put a finger on what the crowd wants from the Undertaker. He gets the biggest live pop out of anyone generally speaking and his legend carries him and his opponent through most storylines.
I personally think Taker just needs to play the 'loner' role and stick to doing what he does best. Acting tough and kicking peoples asses. I think making him a heel just won't garner the boos from the crowd.
You can't be a heel if everybody is always cheering for you.
Also, I would like to throw this out there as well. I would say a decent amount (at least 20% but not 50 or anything) dont know squat about wrestling and are taking a kid, little brother whatever. The one person that they are sure to know is the Undertaker. He has been around since Uncle Bobby was watching wrestling with his buddies back in high school. That's worth something too.
Vince is having a hard time with turning veterans into heels lately though. Anyone else notice only really young talent are heels these days?

It's clear that Undertaker comes out to the most powerful pops, over and over again. If any of you have attended a live event, especially since his return to the dark side, you know that this is true.
But what blows me away is the reaction that Batista gets as well. Despite any and all of the criticism that comes his way, this guy has a right to be champ. He;s a great package, and really gets over with the fans. I actually met him recently at an appearance in Milwaukee and his outgoing respect for the fans just radiated.
Don't get me wrong...this post isn't turning into a love fest for Batista. It's just a matter of solidifying the point that Batista is on the same level as a face at this point as the Undertaker. I won't throw out any spoilers, but especially granted the stare down that Batista and Taker have during the show, I'm just starting to feel that successfully turning Taker heel would take this program to a whole other level.
The fact that the kids all know Undertaker would only add to its success. I think it'd be something for WWE to take him from being something that the kids say "wow" about when he pulls his parlor tricks to "wow, that's scary". Between his look and tricks, he's one menacing cat. Throw in that same menacing attitude he used to carry. Have him pick apart Batista and in a random act that no one's going to see coming. The pure shock value of Taker coming out to make a save, only to Tombstone Batista on a chair, would be the springboard needed.
I'm not looking for a reformation of the Ministry...at least not at this point. I've had enough rehashing on WWE programming for that at the moment. I say, keep him a loner, but an eviiiiiiil loner.
The greatest heels are the ones that I have a hard time getting behind when they're at their best. The ones where, at times, I cannot even stand to see on the screen because they are THAT under their skin. WWE is stuck in a mode where cocky, younger superstars are elevated to heels because they can go after vetrans with no respect for them...i.e. Kennedy, MVP, Kenny, Orton, even Cena at one point. WWE needs to make a surefire move to keep things fresh and be able to turn one of their most seasoned performers heel. If not, I'll lose all appreciation for the newcomers that all come in to do the same thing...

Some great points made above.
My own take is that, usually, it is just simpler to start out as a heel (hell people usually just wanna boo new guys anyway....give them a reason to!), and then if they do a great job and get over and get a winning streak going then, bammo!, you turn the bastards face and cash in big style!
I love heels, very rarely like faces all that much, but Taker is one of those exceptions that I like very much as a face and that he does his best work now in trying to elevate young heels to the next level. In recent times he did an exceptional job with Orton (not his fault Orton then assed up!) and Mr Kennedy. Just stop lumbering him with useless huge goons that can't wrestle!
On another point, unless they do an incredible job in turning him, and I mean incredible (could WWE writers do that) I'm not 100% convinced that if he goes in with Batista at Mania that the crowd would actually boo him. As popular as Batista is with some (not me!) I can see a Wrestlemania-type crowd (which is usually different to regular shows) totally booing Big Dave's ass!

I tend to agree with Jake. I mean look at Angle on Raw before he left WWE. He wqas saying everything that he possibly could and did everything that he needed to do to get him over as a legit heel, but people cheered him no matter what cause he was Kurt Freakin' Angle. I think WWE would run into the same problem with Taker. Put him up against Batista and all you're going to get is a split crowd. Against anyone else people will side with the Taker 100%

I think Takers turn to hell is indeed long over due. I would have to say however, it would need to be done with some tact. If anything I could see him going back to the darkside, for the soul reason of becoming champ again. If I was doing the booking, and depending on if Taker wanted too, I could see him having a week off and then appearing on both brands, tearing through the rosters left and right setting up his heel turn for WM.
