ECW Thoughts - 4th July.

The Phantom

Not a bad show this week. I think it was enhanced by the fact that it was a more vocal crowd than usual, so props go to the Philly crowd.

Lets look at the RVD situation first, again. Since he lost the WWE title to Edge on RAW it was pretty obvious that he’d be doing the job again here to continue his punishment. The Big Show was the only viable option to take the title off Van Dam, and they explained that well I thought. I would have liked them to throw in why Edge wouldn’t be appearing. They could have had Heyman say something like: “Although Edge was scheduled to be here tonight he has given us notice that he has no intention of appearing tonight. He’s got his WWE Championship back last night, and is still out celebrating. He’s got what he wanted from RVD and does not wish to compete for the ECW Title tonight.� Something like that would just clear up why Edge is not there. Even though we all know the real reason.

Now don’t get me wrong, Kelly Kelly is a lovely girl… (so lovely in fact, they named her twice!) but the girl can’t dance to save her life. She looks so awkward up on the stage whilst doing her exposé. They also need to play some different music too. I bet that PCD song will be used for the up and coming diva search contest. On a side note check out ECWs mini site at WWE.com they have pics of Kelly backstage after her exposé… doesn’t look like she’s wearing a whole lot if you ask me ;-)

The crowd were a little harsh on Mike Knox in my opinion. I’m like him so far, and he looks like a guy that WWE can use in the future.

The guy who delivered the anti ECW promo looked good. I’m glad they didn’t go down the ‘man of the cloth’ road, since it would be a bit hard to believe. The Sandmans squashes are starting to become a little stale now… maybe wait a week or so before he does another one?

Nice to see Test back on TV again. Also nice to see Al Snow, even if it was to do the job. Big you take steroids chant went around the arena when Test came out, which made me laugh. He wont last long in WWE if that is the case. Don’t go and blow your chance Test. On a side note how cool would it be if you were the person who caught head after the match!?

A Sabu promo? This guy is lucky to still have a job, let alone be on TV. Also good to see C.M Punk on TV. I’ve heard a lot about this guy, so I’m eager to see him in action.

Now to the main event... In all honesty I thought they’d have The Big Show squash RVD since there’s no way Big Show should be going near enough 20mins in the ring. The match was ok, and the way RVD attacked the big show was how it should have been, since it didn’t make Show look all that weak. I had a sneaky suspicion that Heyman would screw RVD… and that’s exactly what he did. Nice turn there from Paul and it also sets up a feud for RVD when he returns from his suspension. The crowd reaction to The Big Show winning was priceless. I love it when a crowd reacts like that throwing all their rubbish into the ring… it just makes the winner a bigger heel than before.

And finally… we all know the real reason why RVD got suspended, but what’s the deal storyline wise? What has he done… hopefully we’ll find out next weeks show.
