Rep Power: 45 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Meltzer's rating system is bullshit Can you believe this guy hasn't given a 5 stars to a WWE match in years? This is the type of biased analysis that kills me about the internet wrestling community. I don't give a fuck if TNA can get 1,000 people packed into a bingo hall, haha.. (sorry, cheap shot I know) it doesn't make their product better and it doesn't mean WWE is incapable of having a 5 star classic. Here's a perfect example of why this guy's ratings are biased. Unbreakable 2005, it was an X-Division title match between Samoa Joe, AJ Styles, and Christopher Daniels.. I've seen the match a few times, I have it on tape.. Was it a great match? Yes, no doubt a bout it.. But was it overall better, without getting into specifics, then some of the Chris Benoit and Kurt Angle classics I've witnessed over the years? No fucking way. Everything he takes into account in his rating system, these matches have had, but yet they don't get the 5 star.. Well, I'm sorry Dave if McMahon has criticized you in the past, but it has nothing to do with the performers in the ring. Quit being a biased prick about it.

Rep Power: 73 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I don't read much Meltzer, his co-hort Bryan Alvarez (ex wrestler) who runs the Figure Four Weekly newsletter online on the Wrestling Observer, is a much more enjoyable read overall. Meltzer knows his stuff, no doubt, but I guess (and I feel like this too a lot) after many many years of watching WWE you become jaded to their match types so when you see a different type of match, which you do generally in TNA, it excites you more. I think that is more his problem specifically, he's just more enthused by other products rather than WWE. He is writing primarily though for a WWE audience and maybe should remember that sometimes when he's off on some tirade about the quality of Japanese wrestling and how everything is so much better than WWE. Quite a lot of the time, it is, but not always.

Rep Power: 6 ![]() | I like Meltzer and he is pretty reliable when it comes to reporting backstage news on WWE, but I agree that he is overly critical of WWE. He's given several ROH and TNA matches 5-stars but Angle-Benoit (Rumble '03) and Angle-HBK (WM 21) were better than any of the matches Meltzer rated 5-stars and yet those two matches didn't receive the same score. |

Rep Power: 4 ![]() gXboxLive Leaderboard: 34th | Its not that he give 5 star matches out everywhere. I think he has only given out 4 within the couple of years. Last I heard, the Samoa Joe-Kobashi match at ROH last year was the last one. I think there was one this year in TNA but I can't remember. |

Rep Power: 7 ![]() | Well that's just sad. I was never a fan of HBK, but he's really grown on me in the past few years. Angle vs HBK sealed it for me. THAT is a 5 star match if ever one took place. Then again, Angle could have a 5-star match with an ironing board, haha. |

Rep Power: 19 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Even though I'm not a big wrestling watcher anymore, I agree with what has been said. I think part of the problem is that because the WWE is the only major wrestling federation in the world, people begin to become increasingly negative on their product, and point out their downfalls, before they give credit to them. It almost happens with every company that has a monopoly. The WWE may have, shot themselves in the foot on several points by purchasing the WCW assets, and this could be one of them. Almost everyone wants to root for the little guy, there's even a book on it -- the little engine that could. TNA being the little guy, people want to see them success; people want to see them grow and become a WWE competitor. I'd personally like to see it as well, and it realistically could, however that doesn't mean that I want to see the WWE fail either. About Shawn Michaels; Maybe he's not the best wrestler in the ring. He might be obnoxious to some, and maybe considered over dramatic, but he is an entertainer and he does care about the sport, giving everything he has into his matches. The guy has over come a lot, and he's been told by doctors to quit wrestling twice only to defy their orders and give the WWE fans a great match.

I found myself picking the negative things out of the product last night while watching Raw. I don't really know why, but I did. I don't really see a problem with reporting on the negatives.

Rep Power: 45 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | So if he hates HBK, HBK couldn't possilby give a 5 star match? WTF? That's like a movie critic hating Tom Hanks so, therefore, he sucks at acting. Doesn't make sense. I know he hates Triple H too. He was complaining that HHH didn't do much to put Cena over on Backlash.. Why the fuck should he have? He took the fall and protected Edge.. To me, that's bloody good enough.. So it's Triple H's job now to not only make sure Edge comes out looking great, but Cena as well, and he is supposed to look like shit? Stupid..

If he is just singling out someone, especially someone on the level of HBK, and saying that they cannot produce a 5 star match then I don't agree with that.
