kurt angle's profile.

Name: Kurt Angle

Height: 6 foot 2
Weight: 220 pounds
From: Pittsburgh, Penn.
Signature Move: Angle Slam, ankle lock
Career Highlights: World Heavyweight Championship; WWE Champion; WWE Tag Team Champion; Intercontinental Champion; European Champion; Hardcore Champion; 2000 King of the Ring; SmackDown General Manager

Kurt Angle was drafted by Paul Heyman to be the newest member of ECW as the company prepares for the One Night Stand pay-per-view, and a global launch into full time action. Angle made his first night on the job a memorable one, attacking former ECW hero Mick Foley after a face-off with his new boss Paul Heyman.

Simply put, Kurt Angle is a Wrestling Machine.

Angle's intensity is unmatched. His technical wrestling skills are unparalleled. And he has an unprecedented competitive streak that fuels him to become the greatest Superstar in sports-entertainment history.

Angle has seemingly been a champion all his life, though. From the moment Kurt Angle became an athlete, success has followed him.

He started as a football and wrestling star in his hometown of Pittsburgh, and he soon became one of the top amateur wrestlers in the entire country, winning a pair of NCAA titles at Clarion University in the rugged heavyweight division.

Angle captured national attention in 1996 when he won the 220-pound freestyle wrestling competition at the Olympic Games in Atlanta. Angle's celebration photo was on the cover of USA Today, he appeared on numerous morning talk shows and he was honored with two parades in his hometown.

Angle was even given a tryout with the Pittsburgh Steelers, who at the time were looking to add a fullback to their roster.

Before his arrival at WWE, Angle also spent some time as a local sportscaster in Pittsburgh.

Still, Kurt Angle would go from a local hero to a national sports-entertainment Superstar when he joined WWE.

Four years after earning Olympic gold, Angle entered WWE for the first time and earned professional wrestling gold. Much like his college and Olympic careers, Angle was never satisfied until he was on top. Just weeks after entering WWE, Angle, who preached the virtues of his three I's (Integrity, Intelligence and Intensity) won the European Championship.

A short time later he earned the Intercontinental Championship and also won the 2000 King of the Ring. Still rolling, Angle then defeated The Rock at No Mercy to win the WWE Championship. Not bad for a rookie.

But perhaps Angle’s most memorable accomplishment came in 2003. Angle underwent serious neck surgery in April, just weeks after losing the WWE Championship to Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania XIX. Amazingly, Angle was back on SmackDown! the first week of June. And at Vengeance on July 27, just 14 weeks after surgery, he regained the WWE Championship by forcing Lesnar to tap out.

Angle has also been a strong leader, forming Team Angle, a successful tag team featuring Charlie Haas & Shelton Benjamin, as well as combining Luther Reigns & Mark Jindrak. Angle even held a management position at WWE, serving as the General Manager of SmackDown! for five months in 2004.

He would lose that job in dramatic fashion when Mr. McMahon fired him on July 22 of 2004.

Since the summer of 2004, Angle has been back on the active roster.

Kurt Angle went on to face Shawn Michaels in a dream match at WrestleMania 21. After the two Superstars put on a virtual wrestling clinic, Angle eventually made HBK tap out to the dangerous ankle lock. Everyone thought it would be the only time their paths would cross as Angle was a SmackDown Superstar and Michaels was on RAW.

But that all changed when Angle was RAW's second selection in the 2005 Draft Lottery. Angle and HBK immediately renewed their rivalry and met in the highly-anticipated rematch at Vengeance. HBK got the better of Angle this time, catching him with Sweet Chin Music. Fans everywhere were begging for a rubber match, and Mr. McMahon gave them what they wanted when he signed Angle vs. HBK in a 30-Minute WWE Iron Man Match for WWE Homecoming.

The two future Hall of Famers put forth another phenomenal effort, and the match was knotted up at two falls apiece. Unfortuantely for the fans, time expired and a true winner was never determined. The two met up again on RAW in January '06. Angle had HBK right where he wanted him in the Ankle Lock. But then Daivari hopped up on the apron with a chair, and everything backfired. While Daivari argued with the ref, he accidentally hit Angle with the chair and HBK picked up the win.

He also created the Angle Invitational on SmackDown, where every week a local wrestler gets a chance to win Angle's Olympic Gold Medal if the hopeful can defeat, or sometimes even last just three minutes in the ring with Angle.

The Wrestling Machine headed into WrestleMania 22 as the World Heavyweight Champion, but the odds were stacked against him. He was defending the gold in a Triple Threat Match against both Rey Mysterio and Randy Orton. In such a match, Angle didn't even have to factor into the decision in order to lose the Championship.

But just two nights before WrestleMania 22, the Wrestling Machine made both Mysterio and Orton tap out to the ankle lock. As SmackDown went off the air, it looked as the Angle was unstoppable. If anyone was capable of overcoming the odds in the Triple Threat Match, it was the Wrestling Machine.

And as the match got underway, on the grandest stage of them all, it looked as though Angle would continue to be unstoppable. In a matter of five minutes, the Olympic Gold Medalist made both Orton and Mysterio tap out to the ankle lock once again. But unfortuantely for the Wrestling Machine, the referee was distracted both times.

As the match wore on, Angle's biggest fear eventually came to fruition. The Wrestling Machine looked to have things going his way when he hoisted Rey up for an Angle Slam. But Mysterio utilized his quickness and reversed it into an arm drag, sending Angle to the outside. With Angle outside, Rey hit Orton with a 619 and a lightning-quick West Coast Pop. Before Angle could get back in the ring, Rey scored the pinfall to become the new World Heavyweight Champion. Angle did not submit and he was not pinned, but he lost the World Heavyweight Championship.

There's no doubt that Angle's hunger to regain the Championship will be at an all-time high. If recent history is any indication, it's just a matter of time before the Wrestling Machine reigns supreme once again.

Heading into Wrestlemania 22, Angle was no stranger to WrestleMania main events as he faced Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania XIX and Eddie Guerrero at WrestleMania XX. He has also been in a Triple Threat Match at WrestleMania as he faced Chris Benoit and Chris Jericho at WrestleMania 2000. But he has never had both pressure-packed situations combined. It will be a daunting task, but if anyone is capable of entering a situation with the gold, and leaving with it, it's the Wrestling Machine, Kurt Angle.

Angle took SmackDown by storm in January, 2006 when he showed up unannounced and won a battle royal to win the vacated World Heavyweight Championship. Due to an injury Batista had to relinquish the gold, and General Manager Theodore Long decided to crown a new champion with a battle royal.

Just a few nights earlier, Angle was competing on RAW. But after 19 Superstars had entered the ring, the Olympic Gold Medalist's music hit and the crowd exploded. It was later learned that Angle was competing on RAW without a contract, so in essence, he was a free agent. Angle saw a golden opportunity and he seized it.

It came down to Angle and the monster Mark Henry. Angle was at a serious size disadvantage, but he used his scientific wrestling skill and extensive experience to eliminate the big man. Henry was furious, and at the Royal Rumble he had a chance to make up for his elimination in the battle royal.

Henry utilized his size and strength in their Royal Rumble match, and Angle couldn't seem to counteract it at first. Angle showed his versatility, though, and after his technical wrestling wasn't paying off, he decided to get a little hardcore. With the referee knocked out, Angle blasted Henry with a steel chair, sending the World's Strongest Man to the mat. Within moments, Angle had his arm raised after a successful title defense. But there was no time to celebrate.

Right after Angle was announced as the winner, the lights went out and Undertaker rode out to the ramp on a black chariot. The Deadman signaled that he wanted Angle's World Heavyweight Championship as an uneasy Angle looked on.

Not one to back down from a challenge, Angle accepted the Phenom's challenge and they faced off at No Way Out. It was billed as one of the greatest main events of all time, and it lived up to its hype. Angle and Undertaker seemed to have counters for everything that was thrown at them. Angle was able to avoid the Last Ride and the Tombstone, but Undertaker was able to escape the Ankle Lock. In the end, Angle was able to reverse a Triangle Choke into a pinning combination for the win.

Angle came within inches of losing his World Heavyweight Championship, but he couldn't rest easy yet. Undertaker was granted a rematch just two weeks later on SmackDown. Angle and Undertaker showed that they had learned from their past mistakes and utilized even more counters in the rematch. Before the match could reach a conclusion, though, Mark Henry interupted the match and attacked Undertaker. Angle had once again retained the Championship

Personally I think Angle will have his chances and probably win the ECW world title (if they have one) but then once it has been a few months or so and he is tired of sacrificing his body more than he did in WWE he will just go running back to them.
