Matches that went beyond Expectations

I always think back to Kurt Angle-Shane McMahon at King of the Ring when Shane goes flying through the glass as a match that went beyond expectations.

What are some of the other ones?

March 28th: Ring of Honor in Orlando, FL, March 29th: WWE Hall of Fame in Orlando, FL, March 30th: WWE Wrestlemania XXIV in Orlando, FL
April 13th: TNA Lockdown from Lowell, MA

Most recently I'd say Cena vs. JBL in the "I Quit" Match. I ordered that PPV when I was really bored one Sunday evening and I was pleasantly surprised.

Bret Hart V Hakushi, IYH....

Very good match, nothing more needs to be said.

Kurt Angle v Undertaker, NWO 2006....

For me anyway, I knew it was going to be good but the match was superb, especially the ending, it was good to see Taker, a true vet at this stage still being able to go at it full throttle, those submissions were great.

Lance Storm v Lionheart Chris Jericho, ONS, 2005

To me, I never thought this match would be so great as Lance hadnt wrestled, and Y2J at the time, for WWE, wasnt nothing great in the ring. What we got was one of the smoothest technical bouts in a Long Long time, had this gone a little longer, would have been an instant classic in my eyes.

HHH v HBK , SS 02

After a massive layoff no one ever thought HBK could have this classic, hardcore style brawl (me anyway)

Hardys v E&C, No Mercy 99

The birth of the "TLC" style match up, this match got both teams recognized, amazing match...maybe not so much looking back because of the TLC triple threat tags we've seen..

Angle-Taker 2006. I thought it was going to be good, but this was really really great.

I wish my sex life was like ECW, first you get a One Night Stand followed by 2 months of nostalgic orgasms and then 6 months of constant sucking.

Lol, I opened this thread with just this match in my head and am really pissed to see it has already been chosen. Hard to think of many matches that actually exceeded my expectations.

I guess I would include Hunter and The Rock's One Hour Iron Man Match at (Judgment Day?) years ago. Most people going in seemed to feel they didn't have the ability to make this work, and I myself hated the Bret-Shawn one so felt this too would be awful. It was a pleasant surprise for it to be so excellent. They also had a hell of a Ladder Match at Summerslam against each other too that went beyond what I though it would be.

Yup.. It all goes back to Rock/HHH and why Carlito and Masters should be facing each other soon dammitt!

I'll throw out another recent match. Trish vs. Lita on RAW end of 2004. I was amazed at all the hype going into the match during the night and was asking myself "why are they pushing this so bad?".. Then they got out there and did a really awesome job for that night's main event. One of the only women's matches I've ever enjoyed (not counting bra & panties)

Good call Blitz, on that Trish-Lita match.

A few others that come to mind:

Brock vs. Big Show, Survivor Series 2002 (or is it '03? I'm not sure. The one with the first elimination chamber)

Rhyno vs. Raven, Hardcore title, Backlash 2002

HHH vs. HBK vs. Chris Benoit, WM XX - I put this here because people thought making it a triple-threat would take away from the quality of the match, when it actually made it better

You know, I started to think of a lot more, then I realized that a LOT of them included the Undertaker. I thought of his match vs. Big Show at No Way Out 2003 (before he fought Show and A-Train in a handicap match at WM 19, which was also a good match), his match vs. Cena at Vengeance 2003, his match vs. RVD for the hardcore title at Vengeance 2001, and the ladder match for the Undisputed title vs. Jeff Hardy. I think Taker's bad rep (in-ring wise) is really undeserved

Eddie Guerrero vs. JBL at Judgement Day 2004. This was JBL's first main event and many people (including me), thought the match would suck. Well, thanks largely to Eddie (who bled like a stuck pig to quote JR) the match ended up being really good, even though it ended with a DQ finish.

When I saw this title, thats exactly what I was thinking about,

I would also say The Foley vs. Triple H match at The Rumble.
