WWE performers in the wrong generation?

Which wrestlers from WWE's past were born too soon and would have been far more succesful in the modern generation?

First up I think someone like The Dynamite Kid would have become more than "just" a tag team wrestler in WWE. It's real funny watching a tape of The Kid and thinking, "jeez Benoit really did worship that guy".

Someone like Ted DiBiase would have surely won the Title at least once in this generation and even Jake Roberts would have possibly been an even bigger star.

Trying to think of guys that weren't really recognised much at all in that generation is a lot harder since I only really know guys that were well known. Maybe Steveo could help me out here.

Also which guys were born too late. Which of them would have been a smash in the 80's for example yet are pretty ordinary today?

Probably guys like Val Venis and Rene Dupree would have been better off in the 80's. They both have that "comic character" look that was so popular back then, both have some mic skills, are pretty big guys and can work better than most generic big guys can.

Just about any big man would have done well in the '80s, so Luther Reigns and Tyson Tomko could probably have been mid-carders.

I agree about Ted DiBiase, nowadays he could have won the WWE Title because he wouldn't have to deal with Hulk Hogan only allowing his friends to get pushed.

This isn't really a different generation but I believe that almost all of the crusierweights could have done better in the late '90s when WWE was actually pushing it's (then)light heavyweight division.

This might sound odd, but I think the John Cena "white rapper" gimmick was done a little late. When I was about 16 or 17 it was really cool for white kids to talk hip-hop and dress a certain way but I think that's starting to be looked down apon in certain areas of the country. Of course, it's still popular to do but that's why Cena gets a lot of boos now as opposed to if this gimmick came out 4 or 5 years ago..

Anyone agree, disagree?

Yeah I think this gimmick would have been huge had it been done about 4 or 5 years ago like you said.

If you dont' know Dynamite Kids stuff, start downloadin, or obtain legally. He's insane, possibly a hair better than Benoit, if you believe it.

I say Masters, just b/c his character suited more of the 80's type of wrestler... ie. big strong guy - no great mic skills required.

Nice topic!

One that I can think of right off the top of my head - the Razor Ramon character. It took place just a bit too early. It would have been a nice fit in the "Attitude" era.
