Today I was watching my tape of Summerslam 1999, which I attended. And let me tell you, I have never heard a crowd like that since. Anyways, the WWE decided to have a number one contendor match for the tag team titles. Instead of one team vs. another team, they had a tag-team turmoil match. If the WWE put one of these on today, there would be about 2 teams. I love pictures in my post, so I'll try to put them in.

It started with Edge & Christian vs. the Hardy Boyz, with all of the huge spots, it should have been a title match. Jeff and Edge ran across the opposite security rails and Edge spears Jeff above the ramp in the air. Amazing.

The Hardy Boyz lost and so the next team to enter was Mideon & Viscera. (side note - I heard that Mideon has been working some dark matches lately, so maybe we can see him again. I liked his Mideon character, but not Naked Mideon.)

Anyways, Mideon & Viscera lose, so the next team to enter was Droz & Albert. It is incredible to see Droz's matches. It truly is a shame that he is now paralyzed from a wrestling accident. I don't blame D-Lo at all. I thought Droz had huge potential.

Droz & Albert lose, so the next team to enter was Bradshaw & Faarooq, the Acolytes. If you want to see true power, watch any Acolyte match. This is the JBL that I actually liked.

Finally, Edge & Christian lost, so the final team to enter was Crash & Hardcore, the Hollys. I loved these guys as a team, especially when Crash would carry around that huge scale and clame to be a super heavyweight. Also, these guys would not stop fighting eachother.
The Acolytes won the match after the Hollys got into a fight. So they would face the tag champs the next night on Raw.

Later on, the WWE still had enough tag teams to have a title match. It was X-Pac & Kane vs. Big Show and Undertaker. I still can't believe that the WWE talked X-Pac into dropping the title in his hometown. That absolutely sucked. Him and Kane as a tag team was incredible. I couldn't wait until Kane joined DX and changed his outfit to green. Well that didn't happen.
Anyone else have some stories of the good old days of tag teams?

I've been up all night so i'll post my thoughts later after I get some rest, but I have to say I love that picture of The Undertaker, he kicked ass in the Ministry of Darkness days.
You can't forget 1 of my favorite teams the New Age Outlaws, who got back together in September 1999

I think the problem with tag matches these days, is that they are too formulaic (if thats a word). it always seems to be: faces come out firing, heels take control, isolate one member of a team for a long time, face hits move out of desperation, face gets the hot tag, face picks up win or heel cheats to win.
Obviously i'd love to see more teams, but i think they still need to spice it up with how the matches actualyl take place. The great tag teams always flowed well, but not many teams (if any) these days have that flow.
Also, makeshift tag teams ruin the tag team division. Who cares about the guys going for the tag belts, when uve got *for example* Shawn Michaels and John Cena teaming up to take on Kurt Angle and Carlito?
