Tag Teams

This is from the Ross Report on wwe.com:

"Where have all the great tag teams gone?
From: David H.
Over the last couple of years, WWE seems to be pulling away from tag team wrestling, which I am a big fan of. I miss the teams of the late 1990s when New Age Outlaws, the APA, Edge and Christian, The Dudleys and the Hardy Boyz had some of the most memorable matches. And who will ever forget the great teams of the Hart Foundation, Demolition, and the Bushwackers? Even with Animal and Heidenreich, the tag team division has been weak for the past year or so. What is the future of tag team wrestling in WWE?

I too am a fan of tag team wrestling, but an old wrestling adage says that single stars sell more tickets in main event slots than do tag teams. The lack of top-line tag teams in WWE is a reflection of the overall lack of quality depth in the business in general. I would not be surprised if we see a few new teams arrive on the scene much sooner than later on both RAW and SmackDown! and be put in a position to make an impact. Whether these teams can carry the ball to the Promised Land remains to be seen. I sure hope so as opportunity waits. There is no tag team bias in WWE, just a lack of enough good teams to make this “division” as interesting as it could be."

We have been talking about this in posts and in the RAW thread. WWE is finally taking notice. Soon we will see the debut of Cade & Murdoch, the WWE has signed the Highlanders, we have got many tag teams in OVW and DSW that probably coul move up, and if Mick Foley comes back in the ring as Mankind, we could see him team up with Kane again and take the gold. Or he could come back as Dude Love and team with Austin.

Post your thoughts.

Regal & Assoicate will make a good tag team.

Ken Kennedy could be paired with someone.

The new LOD, MNM, Sly Grenier & Doug Basham are starting to turn the tag divison around. At least on Smackdown anyway.

If they are keeping the brand split, the best move would be to retire both brands tag belts and re intro them as the WWE world tag titles, which represent both shows. As well as create about 4 teams per show, and just stick with them, if there is a singles breakout star, then wait until the right angle comes around to split them up. Make shift teams for 2 weeks are not interesting.

MnM are a good team, use that as a basis. I can name every tag team from 85 to about 93.

Today between 2 different shows, I coudlnt' name 4.

MNM are the best tag gimmick for years, given some half decent opposition they could easily become as good as the New Age Outlaws. But this all comes down to the brand extension again. Back when WWE was at it`s peak there were 3.5 hours television a week available to scheduele feuds. Now with only 1.6 hours available its easy to see why the tag feuds have fallen by the wayside and as a result why less solid ringworkers have progressed from tag-work to mid-upper card singles draws. Perhaps this is why WWE is constantly trying to sell us each OVW call-up as the next great thing instead of bringing guys thru the correct way..... just a thought

I had a sig, once.
